Necromantic Prowess
Sorcery
Destroy target creature. Put target creature from that creature's controller's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
I'm wondering if this is the best way to word the ability. I want the ability to only affect the controller of the creature that's destroyed and not any opponent. I couldn't really find any wording exactly like this, so help would be appreciated.
The only other way I could see this being worded, is:
Necromantic Prowess
Sorcery
Destroy target creature. Put up to one target creature card from that player's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
"Choose a player. Destroy target creature that player controls and put up to one target creature card from that player's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control."
I didn't want it to have to target the player. I think the second wording I used is appropriate. I found similar text on Sepulchral Primordial. - you may put up to one target creature card from that player's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. Just added the Destroy target creature. I think it should work fine in my second version.
In the second wording, the "that player" isn't referencing anything because no player's have been mentioned before. You could make it work my limiting the first part to an opponent's creature. Also since you can't return the same creature that you are destroying, so you might want to just use "another target" to help reduce another possible confusion.
Destroy target creature an opponent controls. Put another (up to one other?) target creature card from that player's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
If you don't want to limit it to opponents, Reincarnaion does something similar. You could do a similar wording if you make the return dependant on the death of the first creature.
Destroy target creature. If that creature is destroyed this way, put another (up to one other?) target creature card from the graveyard of the destroyed creature's controller onto the battlefield under your control.
Or maybe:
Choose target creature and up to one target creature card in its controller's graveyard. Destroy the creature and put the card from the graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.

My suggestion doesn't target the player (because it doesn't say "target"), it just sets up an antecedent for "that player", since as Silvercut pointed out that's the major issue with the 2nd rough draft version.
