I had this idea for an emblem for a g/w token making planeswalker. An emblem that basically said
"Whenever an effect would put one or more creature tokens onto the battlefield under your control, you may search your library for a creature card that shares a type with those tokens and put it onto the battlefield instead. If you do, shuffle your library."
I'm just not sure if this wording would work, considering the tokens are never actually made, thus the card has nothing to share a type with. Suggestions?

The vast majority of replacement effects* are worded "If [event A], [event B] instead." Copying the wording of Doubling Season, we have:
"If an effect would put one or more creature tokens onto the battlefield under your control, instead you may search your library for a creature card that shares a creature type with one of those tokens and put that card onto the battlefield. If you do, shuffle your library."
Replacement effects look at the game state as though event A would have happened, and replace it with event B. Since for event A to be replaced, the game must have been able to process it to know that it should have been replaced, the game also knows the creature types of the tokens that would have otherwise been put onto the battlefield.
The second bit with the sharing of creature types should use "one of those tokens", to accommodate effects that put multiple tokens onto the battlefield simultaneously. After all, there aren't very many cards that have the creature type Centaur, Knight, and Rhino at the same time.
[size=1]* There are exceptions, such as "as [...] enters the battlefield" abilities, but this isn't one of those exceptions.

I see. I understand the way replacement effects work fairly well, I was just wondering how to word the "shares a type with" part in a way that would work within the rules. Thanks for your help man
