Nanobots 0
Artifact
Nanobots can block as though it were a creature.
0/4
What rulings would I need to make this work? I wanted to make it so the default is that it can't attack or block unless written out. Damage and 0 toughness still kill it but it can't be targetted by lightning bolt because it's not a creature.
With that in mind, would this card work?
Attack! W
Instant
Target permanent attacks during it's controllers next combat.
I want to make it so I can attack with my Nanobots but I'm not sure this works right. I figured if i make a ruling that only permanents with power or toughness can attack or block it could work.
Is this feasible or do I need a new permanent type?
As you probably know, noncreature objects, by default, cannot have power and toughness. Assuming that rule was lifted, this would work.
Attack! doesn't work the way you think it does, though. Nanobots is an artifact, not a creature; although you explicitly write that Nanobots can block, that doesn't automatically mean it can attack. Attack! merely gives a mandatory permission for Nanobots to attack, but it's not able to attack since it's not a creature.
Among other interactions I can think of, one that comes to mind is evolve. Do you intend for Nanobots to trigger a 1/1 creature's evolve?

[c]Lightning Bolt[/c] -> Lightning Bolt
[c=Lightning Bolt]Apple Pie[/c] -> Apple Pie

Hmm, evolve I hadn't thought of but no it shouldnt trigger evolve since it's not a creature.
You're right about attack! tho. What if I changed it to "Target permanent can attack as though it were a creature during its controllers next combat."?

That only states something that's true about the targeted creature. It doesn't force that creature to attack.
The bad thing is that you can't force it to attack, either. What happens when Intangible Virtue attacks, for example?

Well since intangible virtue can't attack nothing happens.
I think "Target permanent attacks during it's controller's next combat as though it were a creature." works with a few rules changes. Thanks for your help.
