I am designing a land that is based off of the unpredictable Roil of Zendikar. The flavor is that the creatures are in these floating boulder canyons when the roil hits and it sends creatures flying.
Here is what im trying to accomplish:
CARDNAME
Land T: Add 1 to your mana pool. 4, T: Flip 3 quarters. For each heads tap any creature an opponent controls, those creatures gain flying until end of turn. For each tails, tap an untapped creature you control, those creatures gain flying until end of turn.
or maybe
CARDNAME
Land T: Add 2 to your mana pool. Flip a coin, if it is heads tap any creature an opponent controls and it gains flying until end of turn. Otherwise, tap target untapped creature you control and it gains flying until end of turn.
I want the coin flips to represent the randomness of the roil. So it's not guaranteed to go in your favor.
"Flip three coins. For each coin that comes up heads, tap a creature an opponent controls. For each coin that comes up tails, tap an untapped creature you control. Creatures tapped this way gain flying until end of turn."
For the above, you can't just change the word "a" to "target", since all iterations of a coin of an outcome would attempt to tap the same creature repeatedly. This is because the condition of how many iterations are done is calculated as the ability resolves, not as it's activated; the number of targets of an ability can't be chosen on its resolution.
"Flip a coin. If it comes up heads, tap a creature an opponent controls. If it comes up tails, tap an untapped creature you control. A creature tapped this way gains flying until end of turn."
The above is for the second one; here you can change the word "a" to the word "target" without any problems. Note that if you do change "a" to "target", though, the ability will no longer be a mana ability.
