There were a few cards that I made (in custom card games, I believe) that interacted with ability words. Here are a few examples of abilities that were on those cards, with another few examples added just now:
Your threshold is one.
Bloodrush abilities cost RG less to activate.
Whenever an inspired ability triggers, copy it. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Creatures with a battalion ability have indestructible.
Permanents and spells lose their metalcraft abilities.
Damage dealt by sources with nullity can't be prevented.
Limited usage and parasitism aside, what are your opinions of ability words having referential meaning (and in the threshold example, having parameters being changeable)? I would imagine that if this were to happen that there would be a set with a lot of ability words that would be played solely in a vacuum so that these cards would be relevant.

How to use card tags (please use them for everybody's sanity)
[c]Lightning Bolt[/c] -> Lightning Bolt
[c=Lightning Bolt]Apple Pie[/c] -> Apple Pie
Vowels-Only Format Minimum deck size: 60 Maximum number of identical cards: 4 Ban list: Cards whose English names begin with a consonant, Unglued and Unhinged cards, cards involving ante, Ancestral Recall
That's pretty obvious, but then again no custom mechanic would work since there would be no update to the CR to make it work. Unless it's something radically different (nonpermanent cards with morph, for example), it should be assumed that there would be a CR update for this. In this case, it's not a very big rules update at all -- ability words would only have referential meaning and nothing else.
Introducing it would have more negative consequences and invite more confusion than it would create interesting design space.
Would it? I can't think of too many examples where it would create mass amounts of confusion, but I am of coursed biased.
