It's time for the public to vote for who they believe is the true grand master. Don't forget that voting in the poll will earn you two bonus points in February's CCL. Each finals participant should feel free to vote for him or herself. Please see the challenge and entries below.
There is an old kung fu movie trope about a master overcoming some sort of physical obstacle to become a true legend, whether it be blindness, only having one arm, or whatever. For this challenge you will need to make three cards that could fit in a Return to Kamigawa block. All three of your cards should work well together mechanically.
Make a legendary creature card that fits the trope I've just described above. Your card must include one of the following types: Ninja, Samurai, or Monk (it can include any other creature types, but it must include one of those types). The card's mechanics should reflect how this physical impairment has actually become an asset.
Choose two —
• Make a nonlegendary creature that is a student or follower for your legendary creature. The card must bear your legend's name and it must be playable in a Commander deck that has your legend as the commander.
• Make an instant or sorcery that bears your legend's name. Your card must be playable in a Commander deck that has your legend as the commander.
• Make an equipment or aura card that bears your legend's name. Your card must be playable in a Commander deck that has your legend as the commander.
Ramatsuji, With No Recollection1GU
Legendary Creature - Human Monk (M)
Trample
When Ramatsugi, With No Recollection attacks or blocks, put the top 3 cards of you library into your graveyard. Then if the total power of creature cards in your graveyard is greater than target opponents life total, you may have Ramatsugi's power and toughness become X/X until end of turn, where X is that opponents life total. "I was told I am Ramatsugi. Do you come to test me?"
3/3
Ramatsuji's AttendantGU
Creature - Moonfolk Monk (R)
Flying
At the beginning of your endstep, you may return any number of cards from your graveyard to the bottom of your library in a random order. If you do, put that many cards from the top of your library into your graveyard. "I watch him fight each day, exceeding each opponent with an art he himself has forgotten. I record these steps and strikes. For this honor, I gift him at dawn his true name."
2/2
Ramatsuji's Kasa2
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equip 1
Equipped creature has vigilance and "Whenever this creature loses power, put X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is the power lost." "What a simple headdress to hide such an elaborate scar. Do you not remember who inflicted it?"
—Hajimei, Ramatsuji's Attendant
Goronotsu, Sedentary KillerRWB
Legendary Creature - Human Samurai (M)
Defender, first strike, menace
As long as Goronotsu, Sedentary Killer is equipped, it can attack as though it didn't have defender and must be blocked if able. Outnumbered - Whenever two or more creatures block the same creature or a creature blocks two or more creatures, destroy up to one target creature or planeswalker. If a permanent is destroyed in this way, you gain life equal to its converted mana cost. "I can commit murder a dozen ways without rising from my seat - and don't even think about what I'm capable of when I have my cane."
2/3
Quaver, Goronotsu's Wakizashi2
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +1/+0 and has deathtouch and "Whenever this creature deals damage to a planeswalker, destroy that planeswalker."
Equip 2 "Certain demise" - Engraving on Quaver's hilt
Goronotsu's TraineeW
Creature - Human Soldier (C)
Goronotsu's Trainee can block an additional creature.
Whenever Goronotsu's Trainee attacks or blocks, if you control an attacking or blocking Samurai, Goronotsu's Trainee gets +1/+0 until end of turn. They laughed at him once for accepting the tutelage of a crippled, daft old man. They laugh no longer.

IcariiFA, I voted for you because I genuinely love your cards and I think you deserve this win.
That said, I still have a few critiques. Ramatsuji himself has amazing flavor, and I really dig the concept behind his marquee ability - he'd be an amazing commander, and it feels like a new direction for green-blue. At the same time, the upkeep trigger does feel a little "fringe" - either it's doing nothing but self-milling, or it's giving him enough power for a one-hit kill. I wish there were a happy medium you could have achieved with this effect, but that would probably make it inelegantly worded.
Ramatsuji's Attendant is definitely a boon to any deck that needs particular cards in the 'yard; I like that the enabling is on an otherwise-useful body. I'd certainly never turn down a Gaea's Skyfolk if I were in-color for it, and this is a much bigger asset to the right deck. It does, however, feel a little too clever in its interaction with Ramatsuji.
Ramatsuji's Kasa is my favorite mechanically - definitely has the Johnny wheels spinning. I think abusing this with Viscid Lemures would be fun. However, it's a little win-more in combination with Ramatsuji; you're only getting counters if you got him opponent-killingly big this turn, after all.
IcariiFA, I voted for you because I genuinely love your cards and I think you deserve this win.
Thank you for the kind works and thoughtful critiques. I will gladly respond and share my thought process behind my cards... after voting is over. I've always felt it poor form to explain the cards we design for others: If you have to explain your cards for others to understand, they probably aren't doing their job!
That said I'll give you my impressions of your entry in the meantime.
Goronotsu is a funny concept: A samurai who could easily kill you from his seat. It toys with the idea of bushido and honor. I like that. The interaction between menace and outnumber is strong here (if a little narrow), but I worry that having him have defender, while flavorful, while be to big a hindrance to take advantage of that synergy. Honestly I don't see this card really being a prime attacker. It almost makes more sense just to use other creatures to trigger his outnumber ability and use him as an "enchantment". It does play into the idea of him being able to kill many ways from his chair.
Quaver is nice and has super synergy with Gorontsu. Super deathtouch sword is good. But is it a creative design? Maybe exciting in a way.
The trainee pairs well with his legendary master and plays to outnumbers strength as a white defensive tactic, which seems easier to enable. It's a solid common power wise if a bit complex for one. Not unreasonably so, but a tally on someones NWO list.
What a contest so far! It's a dead heat three days into the voting! If you haven't done so already, please vote in the poll. Your vote matters! It might end up being the vote that decides who is the true grand master.
We'll keep the poll open until February 13th @ 23:59 EST. That'll have it ending just in time to let Fortuna know who gets the two bonus points for round 1 of February's contest.

I'll have to go with IcariiFA. Ramatsuji's Attendant, particularly, tells a great story through it's mechanics and flavor text.
What a contest! After almost two weeks of watching these titans of card design slug it out, we finally have a victor! And the winner is.....IcariiFA! Congratulations IcariiFA! You are a god among mortals. Put it in the books Moss.

This was nail biting! The polls went back and forth almost every day.
What a great month Flatline. I think you can take it as a testament to yourself based on the amount of interest in the final poll alone: More than twice as many people voted this month over the last! Thank you for your time in organizing it.
And thank you for those who voted for me including my opponent, void_nothing who gave me the nod over his own submission in what otherwise would of been a dead tie at this point.
As promised you can expect an explanation of my designs as well as their backstory and related cards I promised. Thank you all and best of luck as we compete next month.
Thank you Flatline, for great challenges last month. And thank you and congratulations to IcariiFA for being such a great adversary. You fully deserve this win.
I now have an excuse to post a Draft That Pack based on the mechanics I made!
