Beside horror, or better as a part of horror, the main theme of both Innistrad blocks is transformation. We've seen every kind of creature transforming into abominations, and Eldritch Moon is no exception: now we see every kind of creature transforming into Eldrazi abominations. This transformation can happen in different ways on Eldrazified Innistrad: meld creatures are exiled and then re-enter the battlefield melded, Eldrazi emerge out of sacrificed creatures, some DFCs transform with death triggers, etc... What most of these methods have in common is creatures leaving the battlefield. It looks like death is the precursor to most transformations. And so...
Main Challenge: Design a card that has "sacrifice a creature" as an additional cost to cast. Please see clarifications.
Subchallenges:
1- The card is a creature.
2- The card doesn't have any black in its color identity.
On the Main Challenge:
• It has to be an additional cost. Things like triggered abilities, such as "When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, sacrifice a creature", or exploit (the DTK keyword) do NOT count.
• You can sacrifice other things in addition to the required creature as an additional cost. For example, "sacrifice two creatures" or "sacrifice a creature and a land" are both fine. "Sacrifice a land" by itself is NOT.
• The sacrificed thing must be a creature. "Sacrifice a creature or a land" does NOT count (notice the "or" instead of "and"). "Sacrifice a permanent" also does NOT count, because you could sacrifice a land, an artifact, or whatever else instead of a creature. For example, Angelic Purge would NOT pass the challenge, while Bone Splinters would.
On subchallenge 1: the card can have additional card types as long as it has the "creature" card type. Artifact creatures and enchantment creatures are fine.
On subchallenge 2: color identity is what counts. As long as there is no black in the card's color identity as defined by the CR, you're good. In particular, this means that you cannot have any black mana symbol in the text box in addition to having no black symbols in the mana cost.
This is all I can think of for now. If you have any more doubts, just ask, preferably in the discussion thread.
Quick question on the round 1 challenge.....Can the creature being sacrificed be a specific type of creature? For instance, could it be, "As an additional cost to cast ~, sacrifice an Oyster"?
If you specify "sacrifice an Oyster creature" yes, if you just say "sacrifice an Oyster" no because it means an Oyster permanent in the rules, so we end up in the case of "sacrifice a permanent".
Regarding July MCC round 1
does it have to be Eldrazi? or just Innistradishh? Horrorish?
No, that's not required. You can do anything you want, and of course you can still do an Eldrazi/Innistrad/Horror card if you want. For all this month's rounds, Eldritch Moon was just the inspiration, but the challenges will be broader.
Design -
(X/3) Appeal: Do the different player psychographics (Timmy/Johhny/Spike) have a use for the card? (X/3) Elegance: Is the card easily understandable at a glance? Do all the flavor and mechanics combined as a whole make sense?
Development - (X/3) Viability: How well does the card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? Is it the appropriate rarity? (X/3) Balance: Does the card have a power level appropriate for contemporary constructed/limited environments without breaking them? Does it play well in casual and multiplayer formats? Does it create or fit into a deck/archetype? Does it create an oppressive environment?
Creativity - (X/3) Uniqueness: Has a card like this ever been printed before? Does it use new mechanics, ideas, or design space? Does it combine old ideas in a new way? Overall, does it feel “fresh”? (X/3) Flavor: Does the name seem realistic for a card? Does the flavor text sound professional? Do all the flavor elements synch together to please Vorthos players?
Polish - (X/3) Quality: Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating. (X/2) *Main Challenge: Was the main challenge satisfied? Was it approached in a unique or interesting way? Does the card fit the intent of the challenge? (X/2) Subchallenges: One point awarded per satisfied subchallenge condition.
Total: X/25

Keep in mind that, while you can technically cast it without saccing anything, it will enter the battlefield as a 0/0. Even if it were run in a deck with anthem effects, which would allow it to enter without dying immediately, it still probably wouldn't be worth running.
