So round 1 inspired me and I decided to make "things that change" the theme of the month.
Do you know those games like "spot the difference" where you have to look at two very similar but not exactly equal images and find the little hidden differences? This round we're going to play a similar game but with the rules text of Magic cards. Challenge: Choose any existing Magic card with at least two sentences of rules text (keywords do NOT count). Change no more than one of those sentences in a visible and meaningful way and design a card with the exact changed rules text and the same rarity, card types and sypertypes as the chosen card (please see clarifications). Name the existing chosen card in your submission.
@bravelion....For the round 3 challenge, when you say to change no more than one of those sentences, do you mean that nothing else can change? Basically, does the card need to be the same mana cost, P/T, etc as the original card?
You give me the chance to make an additional ruling I had forgotten. Only the rules text, the rarity, and the card types and supertypes (this is the new part) need to be the same except for the one sentence you must change in the rules text. All the rest can change, namely: the card name (obviously, as you're making a different card), mana cost (including both cmc and color), subtypes, P/T (if it's a creature), starting loyalty (if it's a planeswalker), flavor text. If your card is a planeswalker, the only loyalty cost that is allowed to change is the one of the ability with the changed sentence.
1st (2nd actually)-7th: Round 1. Anyone can submit a card.
8th-12th: Round 2 and critiques for Round 1. Still, entry is free for anybody.
13th-17th: Round 3 and critiques for Round 2. Anyone can submit.
18th-20th: Critiques for Round 3.
If there are 12 or more players participating in round 3, top 8 advance and the schedule proceeds as follows.
21st-23th: Top 8 sumbissions.
24th-26th: Top 8 critiques. Top 4 advance.
27th-29th: Top 4 sumbissions.
30th-April 1st: Top 4 critiques. Top 2 advance to finals.
April 2nd-4th: Finals submissions.
April 5th-10th: Public poll.
If there are less than 12 players participating in round 3, top 4 advance and the schedule proceeds as follows.
21st-23th: Top 4 sumbissions.
24th-27th: Top 4 critiques. Top 2 advance to finals.
28th-31th: Finals submissions.
April 1st-5th: Public poll.
First place gives 3 points, second place 2 points, third place 1 point.
1 bonus point for posting critiques.
1 bonus point for posting a top 3.
The points received by each player will be added up and calculated as a percentage of the maximum points that player could have obtained, which are given by 3 * (number of critiques received) + 2
The percentages will then be ordered in decreasing order and that will be the standings for the round.
The percentages from the first three rounds will be added up at the end of round 3 to determine the top 8 or top 4 (see schedule above).
The same system will be used in top 8 and top 4 rounds.
As usual, the final winner will be determined by a public poll.
The list system will be used, regardless of the number of players.
CRITIQUES
The list has again been remade with only those who actually posted this round and randomized again. Critique the six names below yours and give a top 3 looping to the top if necessary. You have until Sunday, March 20th 23:59 EST. That will be the final deadline for critiques for all the first three rounds (so please go critique older rounds too if you haven't already). After the deadline has passed, I'll post the final standings and as specified in the schedule spoiler that has been there since the beginning, as there are less than 12 players in this round, we'll go straight to top 4.

Not many cards in the game deal with triggered abilities. I like how that simple change of word made a card that, while being slightly more complex to use, is still useful. Since we're talking triggered rather than activated, there is no reason for the non-land restriction (but, hey, you needed to use it thanks to the round's requirements, I get that). I find myself wishing it was printed as a companion for Phyrexian Revoker.
Disk of Obliteration7
Artifact (R)
Disk of Obliteration enters the battlefield tapped. 1 , t: Destroy all artifacts, creatures, enchantments, and lands. "My masterpiece"
- Nevinyrral
First thought: no, no, no, no not another Armageddon. Second thought: Well it's more like Apocalypse, really. Third thought: no, no, no, no not another Apocalypse. Look, the disk is powerful in its own right, which you can guess by the fact that any newer artifact board-wipers cost more, but bumping the cost does not give you the opportunity to add in one of the most unfun effects in Magic. Also, it's kinda boring design-wise. If I was to use Nevinyrral's Disk for this challenge, I think it would have been more interesting to have a reverse disk, that brings everything back from the graveyard.
Karametra, God of Community4GW
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (Mythic)
Indestructible
As long as your devotion to green and white is less than seven, Karametra isn't a creature.
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a +1/+1 counter on each other creature you control.
5/8
Well its... ok? I honestly don't know really. Part of what makes the original Karametra so powerful is it's commander presence, and the fact that she ties two card types together, so even if someone plays a wrath, you're still up a land. Here it's just all creatures, all the time, which in my eyes is inferior. Also, since this ability is literally taken off a mono-white card (Cathars' Crusade), what makes her multicolored?
Trial By Combat3WB
Sorcery (R)
Each player may put a creature from his or her hand onto the battlefield. Then each player sacrifices all other nonland permanents he or she controls. All fell silent as the demon rose to meet the angel. The fate of the plane would be determined that night.
Wow, a Show and Tell with a Planar Cleansing, I'm sure there's no way that's goanna be broken... At this low cost, doing this much, it's pretty horrifying. I do not want to know what will happen if a card like this would be printed.

Much like Natalie Imbruglia in the 90's, I'm torn. On one hand I wish this card would be more efficient, and also be legendary so it could be a commander (like a non-busted version of Mizzix of the Izmagnus. I mean, have you played against that thing? Seriously broken). I also really, really like this card. I like how it it's impactful both as a big creature and an enabler for shenanigens for your deck, which is what I look for in casual high-cost rares. It's just that it is outclassed. In competitive by Goblin Electromancer and in casual by the aforementioned Mizzix (I mean, really Wizards, what were you think? no commander deck should be able to perform a turn 3 win).
Argoth, Earthbreaker2GR
Legendary Creature - Elemental (R)
You may play an additional land on each of your turns.
Sacrifice a land: Argoth, Living Earthquake deals X plus 1 damage to target creature, where X is the number of colors the sacrificed land could have produced. It churns the earth into a froth, releasing the power of the mana within.

I never really cared for Mina and Denn, and I felt that they had one good ability and one filler ability and that they were boring overall. When I see a legendary creature, I immediately judge it as a potential commander, and the wildborn were only meh in that regard. Argoth, on the other hand, is a much better commander, with an interesting (though slightly inelegant) ability that should keep opponent's creature in check. That ability should also allow it room in a competitive format, where it won't be uncommon for it to hit creatures for 3. The latter part makes me worry that it's a bit too efficient, and I would remove the +1 part of the ability completely if I were you. Also, note that Argoth is a place in Magic, so it's unlikely the name can stick.
glurman - At first, I thought this is a slightly updated and expansive Nevinyrral's Disk... and then I noticed it destroys lands too. Well, this is way too good and unfun, espacilly as a colorless artifact.
Flatline - You managed to make a card that looks completly like Phyrexian Revoker yet serve so much different rules and that's awesome. So much combo potential, so much distruption and a 2/1 aggresive body. I like it.
maplesmall - I want to combo this so hard with Prismatic Omens and Titania, Protector of Argoth. With that said, looks like a fine build around me commander, nothing too amazing.
SelesnyaNewLife - This card feels way too similar too the old Karametra. However, every token-based commander would LOVE this card, and I like cards that would slide right into many decks.
theazurespirit - The cleverest, most flavorful and fun card of the bunch. You took the original card's wierd drawback (Tragic Arrogance and the "sacrifice" claus), and made an entirly different card with a very unique and swingy effect that just "feels" epic. Awesome design!
shinike1729 - The first and the second ability synergize very well together and the card feels very organic. I also makes a very unique tempo-based aggresive creature and that's very solid. I like it.

Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated. Its controller reveals cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals a creature card. Put that card onto the battlefield under your control, then that player shuffles all other cards revealed this way into his or her library.
An unconditional removal spell that also nets you a random creature is very powerful indeed. It also penalizes large creatures in deckbuilding. I'd hesitate to allow something this swingy into standard or limited.

This is a cute riff on Academy Elite, and feels quite flavorful in gameplay, with previously cast spells making future spells easier. But I think it's way overpriced at 7 mana. 4 or 5 seem fine for this.
Disk of Obliteration7
Artifact (R)
Disk of Obliteration enters the battlefield tapped. 1 , t: Destroy all artifacts, creatures, enchantments, and lands. "My masterpiece"
- Nevinyrral
There's a reason Wizards doesn't print mass land destruction cards anymore. It grinds the game to a halt and is not fun for anyone involved. The original Nevinyrral's Disk was fine, adding land destruction on to it makes it much worse.
Phyrexian Repudiator
Artifact Creature — Horror (R)
As Phyrexian Repudiator enters the battlefield, name a nonland card.
Triggered abilities of sources with the chosen name can't be triggered. Even the most natural reflexes are denied to those that do not require them.
2/1
I don't think we've ever had a card that specifically removes triggered abilities. I feel like this card could lend itself to some combo shenanigans, but I'll leave those for Johnny to figure out.
4/4
The second ability doesn't synergize with the first as well as Mina and Denn's does, but it's fairly interesting on its own. But counting the colors of mana the land produces, and then adding one, seems like some unnecessary complexity. I'd prefer to have it be a constant amount of damage.
maplesmall - This card is a house with Crucible of Worlds. It allows you to deal 6 damage to 2 creatures a turn for no mana cost (although it keeps you stuck at your current land count if you want to deal 6 twice). Unfortunately, if you ran this guy as your commander, lands you control could only deal 3 damage max, right? Seems like a pretty fun build around card for 60 card tabletop though.
SelesnyaNewLife - Karametra revisted. I like it, but I feel like it could have less P/T and just put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control, including itself. As it's worded now, I could see some confusion about what exactly "each other creature you control" means. Each creature other than Karametra? Or each creature other than the one that just entered the battlefield under your control? I'm pretty sure it's the former, right?
theazurespirit - Oof! I'm pretty sure this card is way too strong. I'm going to wipe the board and put out Emrakul for five. Do you have anything?
shinike1729 - I like this. It's clean, simple, and strong. I would have liked some flavor text, but that's a minor quibble.
Asrama - Hmmm...A Polymorph/Telemin Performance hybrid. This card is potentially very strong. It allows you to use it as Polymorphs 5 - 8, or lets you 2 for 1 someone with potentially powerful results. It actually works very well as anti-Polymorph tech. I'd have to see this in action to make sure it isn't too strong, but I think it seems like fun.
netn10 - This is pretty cool. It seems like a really fun EDH card to me.
1st: shinike1729
2nd: Asrama
3rd: netn10

"Spot the difference"
The deadline is Thursday, March 17th 23:59 EST.

@Flatline:
This card fits the challenge just fine, even if you obviously can still change it before the deadline if you want to. You're supposed to mention the existing card you chose though, even if in this case it's quite obvious what it is.
@Asrama: you should mention the chosen existing card too.

Well its...

I've got tons of art from the web. Want art for a render? PM me! Want to create your own collection? Start here!
glurman - At first, I thought this is a slightly updated and expansive Nevinyrral's Disk... and then I noticed it destroys lands too.
I like it.
Top 3:

2nd: Flatline
3rd: shinike1729
An aggressive 2-drop that has great potential to take over a game. Spike will love it.
An unconditional removal spell that also nets you a random creature is very powerful indeed. It also penalizes large creatures in deckbuilding. I'd hesitate to allow something this swingy into standard or limited.
The second ability doesn't synergize with the first as well as Mina and Denn's does, but it's fairly interesting on its own. But counting the colors of mana the land produces, and then adding one, seems like some unnecessary complexity. I'd prefer to have it be a constant amount of damage.

2nd: Asrama
3rd: netn10
I believe the cost should be written 3UB, but everything else is good.
A card like this is very hard to cost and I'm not sure if this is right, but at least it has great Johnny and Timmy appeal.
Mass land destruction is very rare these days, but being more expensive than Bust, maybe this is not busted as much as it looks.
Small change, but this card does something interesting no other cards do.
Again, the cost should be written 2RG. Also, sacrificing a land to deal at least 2 damage and easily 6 damage might be problematic in certain decks.
This card is a lot better than the original form. Maybe one or both "creature" should be "nontoken creature" for power level concerns.
