Phyrexian Nesting Doll3
Artifact Creature - Construct (R)
When Phyrexian Nesting Doll dies, put a 2/2 colorless Construct artifact creature token onto the battlefield. It has "When this creature dies, put a 3/3 colorless Construct artifact creature token onto the battlefield."
1/1
Great minds. Although I gotta say, it's weird that it gets bigger. Flavor dictates that you would break the bigger one only to reveal the smaller one inside.
Edit: Your version reminds of the scene in Return of the Jedi where Han is trying to pick the lock to get into the Imperial bunker on Endor, he just keeps causing more doors to close, thus making the situation worse.

Yes great minds (Rudyard) think of Reef Worm, mediocre minds (myself) think of Mitotic Slime. TBH, I totally forgot about Reef Worm. I never claimed the card was a ground breaking design. I just like it because it is a perfectly spot on representation of something from real life that Wizards hasn't made yet. To Legend's point, I hadn't the seen design on these forums before that I recall, but I'm not surprised others have thought of it. It's one of those "I can't believe this hasn't been made yet" kind of designs. Most of those cards have been thought of by someone else at some point. I've made a lot of cards on this site at this point, it's hard to make every one a brand new idea that's never been done in any way. Sometimes you have to find other parts of card design to enjoy.
Edit: Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Rudyard thought of his design before Reef Worm. 'Cause he's old school, and he's cool like dat. I certainly can't make that claim. I knew Mitotic Slime was a thing.

Thanks Legend. I'm just glad I beat you by more than 3 votes (1 more vote to be exact), which is the number of votes I received for my Thatcher Revolt knock-off. If I won by less than that I woulda felt bad.

i too submitted a thatcher revolt knock-off to the DCC once, except it created Mountain Elemental land creature tokens, so it could be used as a "ritual" as well
That sounds way cooler than my version. Mine was just a 1 mana version that put out Elemental Insects. I had totally forgotten about Thatcher Revolt. At the time I thought I was riffing off of Spark Elemental, but in reality I was just knocking off from TR, bumping up the rarity, and changing the creature type. To my credit, the card did have a witty one-liner for its flavor text, which is my favorite kinda FT.

Indighost is supposed to post this month. I PMed him last night to remind him. I don't have time right now to do it before work, so someone else is going to have to. If he still hasn't responded by tonight, I'll get tomorrow's thread up, but someone else is going to have to take care of today's. Sorry.

Thanks for getting the thread up BTG. The first thread of the new month is the hardest one too. I still haven't heard anything from Indighost. Hopefully we hear something from him by tonight. If not, I suppose I could put the thread up tonight, but I really don't want to have to do it every month, especially a month I'm not even competing in.

Solar Focuser2
Artifact Creature - Construct (R) X4: All damage this turn is multiplied 1.X times, rounded down. Play this ability only if you control a Plains. It was made to help people see, but it can be used in other ways...
1/1
Edit: I forgot something, whoops
Ignoring the use of decimals, this costs 5 to multiply by 1.1 and 14 to multiply by 1.10... i.e. the same effect. Seems legit?
VOTES: Tim, BlackTemple, HM: Flintlock. Cool and flavorful but it doesn't work the way you seem to want it work.
Necrotome (Rare) 2B
Enchantment
When Necrotome enters the battlefield, shuffle your graveyard face up into your library.
You may play the top card of your library if able as long as it's face up.
My initial reaction is to praise this card for its glory, but this sort of thing gets hairy when it is actually applied. I played an online card game named Hex for a while, and in that game there is a mechanic that shuffles Spider creature tokens into your deck, then if you would draw or mill them, they would enter the battlefield. I wanted to design something like this for Magic (since its awesome), but a problem arises when someone needs to shuffle their deck. While shuffling they would be able to see certain cards. This would inevitably lead to cheating, or at least claims of cheating. Anyway, I really love the idea, but I'm not sure it works in real life. I'd love to be wrong on this though.

Thanks! Yeah, I felt the same way but posted it anyways. It's about 22 years too late. But it could be part of an online only set, which WotC is sure to do, eventually. Hey, that might be a cool MCC/CCL - a month of challenges to design cards that would work only (or best) on MTGO but not so well (or at all) in regular MTG.
I think your idea for an on-line only based MCC or CCL is a great one. It seems like some fun outside the box thinking. An actual on-line only set doesn't seem that unlikely to me that the card you made needs to be a silver bordered. It reminds me of an MCC/CCL idea I've had for a while now. I enjoy making cards that are based on fantasy worlds outside of the MTG multiverse (LotR for instance), but when I make one it is usually dismissed as a silver border card. Personally, I think an excellent way for Wizards to expand its fan base would be to make officially licensed sets based on fantasy worlds outside of MTG. This seems like a win-win situation. Let's say Wizards were to purchase the rights to make a Star Wars based set that would come out alongside Rogue One. This would help to hype the new movie, as well as draw more Star Wars fans into Magic. Perhaps this is a far fetched, but I don't see why it has to be. Why is it that the Star Wars universe can't just be another plane in the multiverse of MTG? They could be stand alone sets that never see Standard (I wouldn't mind if they were playable in Legacy though). Franchises like Star Wars, LotR and Marvel Comics are always trying to make their own card games, but they never really catch on like MTG. If you can't beat 'em join 'em. Maybe I'll volunteer to host the January MCC.
Edit: BTW, does anybody know if Wizards has ever put out any sort of statement about what I'm talking about? I don't really read MTG articles.
Edit2: Legend, you should host the December MCC with your idea.

I can't host right now. This is the busiest time of year for me. I'm considering hosting March or April or May depending on my ducks.
I don't keep tabs on WotC like I used to, but some 18 years ago, Wizards stated they'll never muddy the Magic multiverse with crossover sets like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Avengers, etc. Which of course means, they most certainly will. Of course it could be done, but it would be a dangerous gambit because they would most certainly lose a ton of their existing player base, and they may not gain as many long term players as they'd lose. I think if they were going to do it, they missed the fkn boat as the last 15 years has been absolutely PACKED with HUGE franchises - Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Fifty Shades of Gray, Hunger Games, Marvel Universe, etc.
Of course there's many many market factors they they consider, but my main concern would be "where does it end?" I mean, we already have Cthulu Eldrazi as literally the biggest baddest mofos in the Magic multiverse. A game that's supposed to be about Dragons, Angels, Sphinxes, Knights, Wizards, etc - not Cthulu. (Which I completely f'n despise. I literally hate the cosmic horror trope and now it's in my face all the time. I will be surprised if I'm still playing a year from now.) But why stop there? They could do a set with automobiles and trains. Then a set with all of our favorite classic cartoons from Mickey Mouse, to Bugs Bunny, to Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Okay, I'm back. Sorry about that. In theory, it could be okay. And I really like fantasy sets based on franchises. And I think it would be awesome if you hosted a MCC or CCL - even if it's a Loony Toons challenge
What's Up Doc? (Uncommon) 3U
Sorcery
Look at the top four cards of target player's library and put them back in any order.
Draw two cards.
Riding Crop
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature has double strike and lifelink.
Equip "Thank you master. May I have another?"
If Wizards did the franchise sets outside of competitive Magic, but made them have cards that could fit into a normal Magic deck (basically not make them goofy uncards), I don't see any reason why people would leave the game. People that aren't interested in a Star Wars set could just ignore it. The problem with something like Eldrazi is that there no way for people to just ignore them because they are legal in Standard, Modern, etc. I'm certainly not condoning a Star Wars block for Standard.

I could see crossover products that were done as box games with either fixed decks or a draftable card pool (cube) using only functional MTG reprints skinned with the franchise flavor. But not as something so similar that it would cannibalize Magic sales. Things like like card types, mana symbols, card frames, and such could remain the same or be customized for the franchise, but the colors and rules would remain the same.
I do wonder what they're thoughts are on this subject these days.
Force Lightning R
Instant
Force Lightning deals 3 damage to target creature or player. You will die.
So you're saying that a Star Wars set would eat into regular MTG sales because of its potential popularity? Basically, people only have so much money to spend on a card game and Wizards would prefer people spend that money on Standard. That's an interesting thought if that is indeed what you mean. I could see how that could be a concern if Wizards printed too many "franchise" sets. I thought you were saying MTG purists would walk away from the game because a Star Wars set is not Magic. I think that is less of a concern, because those people could just ignore the franchise sets.
If it were to happen, I would prefer the sets weren't just "re-skinned", although a certain amount of that would be ok. If it was just re-skinned cards, who would be Vader? Would Kithkin become Hobbits? It's actually kinda fun to think about. But that could just be me.
Edit: I just noticed that I've taken the DCC discussion thread completely off the rails. Sorry.

(@Flatline: it originally was just X, but I thought it needed some extra oomph and added the "plus one" part)
I totally get why you did it that way, and it may very well be the right way to go, I'm just saying that it seems a little weird and inelegant. Honestly, I can't think of a really good alternate solution. I was thinking that maybe just upping the CMC and setting the mill to 4 might make the card more elegant, but that's 11 power for 4 CMC if you hit a creature with all 4 cards milled. It's probably best the way you have it (I did vote for it after all). It is trading elegance for power to some degree, but not all cards can be all things at all times. Usually, when I'm trying to showcase a custom ability, I prefer to go with a more straight forward and elegant card so that the ability is the main focus of the card. Sometimes introducing a new ability on a complicated card takes too much focus off of the ability since the person evaluating the card needs to spend so much time pondering the other aspects of the card. Of course that doesn't mean you want to go with some bland, low-power card, but it's a difficult balance to strike. I guess that's why making cards is so challenging and fun.
Edit: BTW, you can actually get away with a more complicated card to some degree since exhume is a pretty familiar ability that has been seen in different forms over the years.

heh, everyone's card is broken today except for StonerOfKruphix
Do you think mine would be ok as a 2/2? I was afraid mine was too strong, but when I started looking into it I found Kragma Warcaller, and I think the cards a very comparable (I was actually a little disappointed to find that such a similar card already existed. I haven't been following MTG very closely for a while now). Using that card as a comparison, I think my card is probably fine. The fact that it is a rare, and has the downside of having and giving aggressor justifies the the fact that it costs one less, only costs one (double) color, and has menace. I suppose my logic could be flawed though.
Edit: BTW, I actually changed my card from a 2/2 to a 3/2 when I discovered Kragma Warcaller existed. I almost just downgraded it to an UC instead. I guess I'm glad I didn't .

Has there been a mistake? Because the January 1st submissions have been included in December's end-of-month tally.
What? I'm not sure what you mean. January 1st cards are being voted on today, there's no way I could've added them to December's tally. I included the January 1st votes in the December tally, but that's how it always works. You submitted a card on the 31st of December, the votes for that card count towards December not January. Voting is always 1 day behind entries. Today starts the voting for January. Hopefully I'm not losing my mind. If I am, please let me know and I'll correct whatever I did wrong.

Edit: Your version reminds of the scene in Return of the Jedi where Han is trying to pick the lock to get into the Imperial bunker on Endor, he just keeps causing more doors to close, thus making the situation worse.
Edit: Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Rudyard thought of his design before Reef Worm. 'Cause he's old school, and he's cool like dat. I certainly can't make that claim. I knew Mitotic Slime was a thing.
You beat me by 4 points. 😭
i too submitted a thatcher revolt knock-off to the DCC once, except it created Mountain Elemental land creature tokens, so it could be used as a "ritual" as well
Ignoring the use of decimals, this costs 5 to multiply by 1.1 and 14 to multiply by 1.10... i.e. the same effect. Seems legit?

Maybe an artifact - Urza's Flip-Flops?
Edit: BTW, does anybody know if Wizards has ever put out any sort of statement about what I'm talking about? I don't really read MTG articles.
Edit2: Legend, you should host the December MCC with your idea.
Of course there's many many market factors they they consider, but my main concern would be "where does it end?" I mean, we already have
CthuluEldrazi as literally the biggest baddest mofos in the Magic multiverse. Then a set with all of our favorite classic cartoons from Mickey Mouse, to Bugs Bunny, to Sponge Bob Square Pants.Okay, I'm back. Sorry about that. In theory, it could be okay. And I really like fantasy sets based on franchises. And I think it would be awesome if you hosted a MCC or CCL - even if it's a Loony Toons challenge
What's Up Doc? (Uncommon)

Sorcery
Look at the top four cards of target player's library and put them back in any order.
Draw two cards.
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature has double strike and lifelink.
Equip
"Thank you master.
Force Lightning

Instant
Force Lightning deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
You will die.
Sorry.
Edit: BTW, you can actually get away with a more complicated card to some degree since exhume is a pretty familiar ability that has been seen in different forms over the years.
Edit: BTW, I actually changed my card from a 2/2 to a 3/2 when I discovered Kragma Warcaller existed. I almost just downgraded it to an UC instead. I guess I'm glad I didn't .
