Ok how big can i make a creature in black, if its etb is "Discard a card at random"?
Depends on rarity, I imagine.
It might make for interesting common as a 3/3 for 1B, although not one widely played.
I could see it at uncommon as a 4/4 for BB, or maybe 3/4 for 1B. I don't think you can go much bigger as a 2-drop at any rarity, although maybe you could add some kind of combat ability and make it rare.
I'd be hesitant to play this card in aggro no matter how big it is, because I'm already going to be worried about my consistency, and I probably don't want to risk accidentally discarding my T3 land drop in order to play this thing on-curve.
The other thing I was thinking was that this card could go into a stompy build, where you don't necessarily expect / need a T3 land drop. Something like:
~NAME~BG
Creature — Treefolk Horror [R]
Hexproof
When ~NAME~ enters the battlefield, discard a card at random.
[4/4]
I don't like that much how Rudyard's card bleeds reach into white, even though there are a few precedents.
green has reach because it doesn't have flying. but reach is basically one half of flying & white has flying. i could have given the card flying, but it has no power and has defender, so reach and flying are functionally the same on this card 99% of the time.
reach made more sense flavorwise, the wall reaches high into the air, it doesn't lift off the ground...

In this case it's true that they function very similarly, but my main concern is about the color pie, not about the functionality of reach in this specific case (where you're right anyway).

This is also true, but I was talking about mechanics, honestly I didn't even think about flavor.
Votes: Sagharri (Dang it! I've been meaning to post the same card in blue for awhile now. You beat me to it. ), netn10 (I have a similarish card posted in the current round of the MCC.)
HM: Rudyard (It should prolly be , or at least )
I had no idea we had so many Snoop fans in the DCC. Perhaps you all just like Plants. BTW, sorry Bravelion! I know how much you love uncards.
Courageous Cat
Legendary Creature - Human Cat (M)
Vigilance, protection from uncards
When Courageous Cat enters the battlefield, exile all uncards from the battlefield. Then search each opponent's hand, graveyard and library for up to eighty three total uncards and exile those cards.
4/4
"There! Now we can play some real Magic!"
No problem! By the way, I know a few songs by Snoop Dogg too, it's not my favorite singer/rapper but it's not bad. It's true that personally I don't like uncards, but I still accept them in the game because, as MaRo would say, they're just not made for me. By the way, the same exact thing is also true for cards that only function in multiplayer (Command Tower comes to mind). As for your card, I often think about I would represent my real self on a card, and there are some things you definitely guessed right. First of all the color, I identify myself as heavy primary white in real life, with a little extra from each other color but black. I'm talking about color philosophies here, not mechanics. I like to think of myself kind of like Sarkhan: spanning four colors with one heavy primary one (Sarkhan is primary red and has been every color but white, so it also makes for a nice mirror). You also guessed that I'm quite big physically, probably not enough to be a 4/4 though (an elephant in Magic is a 3/3...). I find very hilarious the fact that you showed my "hatred" for uncards in a card that has to be an uncard itself to make any sense. Someday I will try to do a planeswalker cards of myself... (Edit: I have an idea for a creature card. You will see it in the DCC after the cycle of Curses is over.)
Well, I guess tomorrow it will be the first time I'll vote for an uncard... look what you made me do!
(I don't know if I'm allowed to link to streaming sites, so I'm not doing it, but anyway it's a quote said by Nelson Muntz in the Simpsons episode "The Haw-Hawed Couple", one of my favorites in the whole Simpsons series. Nelson is also one of my favorite characters.)

It really does, and that's the main reason I didn't hate it. And not only that, if you had "this is not an uncard" in the rules text then I wouldn't have liked it, because what would have it meant ruleswise? It would be as bad as Steamflogger Boss or the flavor text of Obsidian Fireheart, and by that I mean really bad to me. For example, once I opened an Obsidian Fireheart in a Zendikar booster pack and I gave it as a gift (not a trade) to my best friend, who also plays Magic (I taught him myself, and I'm about to start teaching the game to two more guys I knew recently), as soon as possible, just to free myself of it.
I like the fact that your card makes perfect sense ruleswise once you define the concept of "uncards", which wouldn't be hard to do. Just do it like Tabak did for the expansion symbol caring cards: list the cards in the CR. Then it wouldn't even need to be an uncard anymore technically, but the flavor you gave it is really hilarious.
Putting this in spoiler tags because it's a little off topic. The reason I really like Nelson as a character is that on the surface it looks like a bully and often behaves as one, but he also has a good side the other three bullies (Jimbo, Dolph, and Kearney) don't have. That side is the one that shows in episodes like "The Haw-Hawed Couple", "Sleeping with the Enemy", or the one when he becomes Lisa's boyfriend (I don't remember the title of that one). He has a quality that I consider very good also in real life: he knows when to show one side of himself or the other, but he has both at the same time. That's why he's probably my favorite character in the whole series.
I also like Moe and Chief Wiggum too, Cletus a little less. Some trivia: did you know that on the Italian dubbed version Chief Wiggum (and Ralph too) are called Winchester instead of Wiggum and he (the Chief) has a strong Neapolitan accent? Carl (Homer's colleague) has a strong Venetian accent, which is quite hilarious to hear from a black character, and Willie, that in English has a Scottish accent, in Italian has a Sardinian one. Also, Moe is called Boe in Italian, which sounds exactly like an exclamation you may use when you have a doubt in Italian.

Bottled Might1G
Artifact (U)
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a charge counter on Bottled Erudition
Whenever you take damage, sacrifice Bottled Erudition, then distribute X +1/+1 counters on creatures you control, where X is the number of charge counters on Bottled Might. "The longer the brewing process, the more potent the brew."
this is a really interesting cycle. lends itself well to control.
Tragic Backfire. RRRR
Instant (R)
Play Tragic Backfire only during your turn.
Counter target spell, destroy all permanents that produced mana spent to play that spell.
what if the mana has been floating around for awhile thanks to something like upwelling? potential memory issue, players can't be expected to keep track of what mana came from what permanent many turns ago. "produced this turn {phase?}" would be a slight change that'd be good.
Rakdos Blood PartyBR
Enchantment (R)
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose target creature an opponent controls. That creature’s controller may have you gain control of it. If he or she doesn’t, that player sacrifices that creature. “Come to my party or die!”
it's not much of a choice is it? they're almost always going to just sacrifice it. maybe if the control gain was a temporary threaten effect instead.

That's indeed a problem I didn't think of. I thought that something like "its controller sacrifices lands equal to that spell's converted mana cost" would serve as a rather elegant fix, but adding "this turn" would keep it more like I wanted it to be. Thanks.
So I'm pleased to be back posting and competing in the DCC. June 1st actually marks the 1 year anniversary of my first foray into competitive card making, also in the DCC. I've learned a lot about card making over the last year, and hope that my cards have reflected that. Anyway, let's see who wins May, and let's make some awesome cards in June!

You are 100% correct Tilwin. 1,000 apologies. I was already planning on going back to check your score today, since I thought it was weird you weren't on the board already (I recalled voting for you myself). I would've done so last night, but I just didn't have it in me. Anyway, thanks for catching that, and here's a 1,001st apology.
I'm going to take this opportunity to remind everyone to keep an eye on their own score at the very least. I try not to make any mistakes, but I guarantee nothing. If I were you, I'd keep an eye on me.

Absolutely no problem Flatline, no need for an apology. It happens, there are so many entries and so much number crunching involved it's natural that at some point mistakes will happen.
Btw, I don't know how courtesy suggests so I'm gonna throw a question here: should we normally wait for the votes to be cast for a specific card before we throw our remarks on it here, or when is it the appropriate moment to do so? I wouldn't want to influence other people's votes but at the same time I find it important to have the opportunity to give more feedback than just a vote here (and I wouldn't want to clutter the daily thread with remarks). Thanks!
Yes indeed Tilwin, mistakes do happen, and they should always be followed by an apology when appropriate.
As far as remarking on another entry while voting is still going on, that is a good question. I'm curious to hear what other people think about it. Personally, I see nothing wrong with commenting on someone else's card while the voting is going on. I encourage a running dialogue on the cards being made in the DCC, as long as that dialogue is friendly and helpful. I can see how someone else might get upset if you pointed out some vital flaw in their card that caused them to receive no votes, but if it was my card with the vital flaw, I would be upset with myself for not catching it, not upset with you for pointing it out (assuming you did so politely). What does everyone else think? I don't make the rules after all, I just work here.

Actually, wouldn't you know it - Magic's style guide calls for two instances of "S" when forming a possessive of a name that already ends in S. Cf. Erebos's Emissary.
The determining factor is if the noun is singular or plural: singular nouns (including proper nouns) ending in "s" get the Saxon genitive as "s's", while plural nouns ending in "s" get it as "s'". I know this from research for my "Mark of Quality" articles (link to article index in signature).

It still looks super weird to me... but gotcha! Singular ends with s, you can put 's, plural, go with the apostrophe only.
Yes, I had it wrong too before doing research for my articles. I even wrote it wrong in the first version of my article and another user (can't remember who) corrected me. I changed my card. I'm still not sure I have my faith ability worded correctly. This card is a complete redo of a card I posted with the same name earlier this month. I redid it because of the new philosophy of not making many cards with protection. I think this card has the same kind of feel without relying on protection. I've included a spoiler of the original version for your viewing pleasure.
Shimmering Seraph
Creature - Angel (M)
Flying
When Shimmering Seraph enters the battlefield, you gain 2 life.
Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, you may exile Shimmering Seraph then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.
4/4
Shimmering Seraph
Creature - Angel (M)
Flying, vigilance
Whenever a player casts a spell, Shimmering Seraph gains protection from each of that spell's colors until end of turn.
4/4
I think I might actually like the new one better.
So it would appear that I'm the only one that likes the new Shimmering Seraph better than the old one (the original version won the day with 6 votes, the new version has gotten one thus far). I suppose it could just be a better day for cards (there is some good stuff today). I agree that the old version is stronger, but the new version is plenty strong, and more fun IMO. Anyway, any thoughts on the new version would be appreciated, as I really like it and am wondering if I'm missing something obvious.

Sanity Shredder BB

When ~ enters the battlefield, discard a card at random.
3/3
Should it be a cost to cast?
It might make for interesting common as a 3/3 for 1B, although not one widely played.
I could see it at uncommon as a 4/4 for BB, or maybe 3/4 for 1B. I don't think you can go much bigger as a 2-drop at any rarity, although maybe you could add some kind of combat ability and make it rare.
I'd be hesitant to play this card in aggro no matter how big it is, because I'm already going to be worried about my consistency, and I probably don't want to risk accidentally discarding my T3 land drop in order to play this thing on-curve.

Creature - Horror (U)
When ~ etb, choose one -
• Discard a card at random.
• Discard two cards.
4/3
The other thing I was thinking was that this card could go into a stompy build, where you don't necessarily expect / need a T3 land drop. Something like:
~NAME~ BG
Creature — Treefolk Horror [R]
Hexproof
When ~NAME~ enters the battlefield, discard a card at random.
[4/4]
Ok, thanks!
very nice
green has reach because it doesn't have flying. but reach is basically one half of flying & white has flying. i could have given the card flying, but it has no power and has defender, so reach and flying are functionally the same on this card 99% of the time.
reach made more sense flavorwise, the wall reaches high into the air, it doesn't lift off the ground...
In this case it's true that they function very similarly, but my main concern is about the color pie, not about the functionality of reach in this specific case (where you're right anyway).
This is also true, but I was talking about mechanics, honestly I didn't even think about flavor.

I made card representing myself once.....
Flatline
Instant (U)
Target nonartifact creature gets -5/-5 until end of turn.
"There's no pulse sir."
BTW, I love the Simpsons. My favorites are Moe, Chief Wiggum and Cletus.
Also, Moe is called Boe in Italian, which sounds exactly like an exclamation you may use when you have a doubt in Italian.

this is a really interesting cycle. lends itself well to control.
what if the mana has been floating around for awhile thanks to something like upwelling? potential memory issue, players can't be expected to keep track of what mana came from what permanent many turns ago. "produced this turn {phase?}" would be a slight change that'd be good.
it's not much of a choice is it? they're almost always going to just sacrifice it. maybe if the control gain was a temporary threaten effect instead.
That's indeed a problem I didn't think of. I thought that something like "its controller sacrifices lands equal to that spell's converted mana cost" would serve as a rather elegant fix, but adding "this turn" would keep it more like I wanted it to be. Thanks.

Yes, I had it wrong too before doing research for my articles. I even wrote it wrong in the first version of my article and another user (can't remember who) corrected me. I did further research and I discovered he was right, so I updated the article and learned something new myself. Anyway, now you got it right!

For what it's worth, I like it but liked the cards I voted more. I considered giving it a mention anyway.
