I love this card, but, oh wait, don't read this unless you're crits for the 20th are done.
Of course now you really want to read it, but seriously, don't.
Gentle Rain
Sorcery (U)
Untap target land.
Draw a card. "When the sky breaths life into the earth, no flower can resist the joy"
As I was saying, I love this card, but how is it not completely busted? Say hello to 56card.dek
It can do crazy stuff with Gaea's Cradle, Tolarian Academy, and every other land that produces more than one G and/or U. Storm has never been happier. I wish WotC would print this, but I doubt they will any time soon. Maybe in 2050.
Look, Manamorphose is a good card. Storm plays it. Storm might like a card with a similar function but storm already has all the tools it needs to be an insanely strong deck archetype. Something that fills the same need as copies 5-8 of Manamorphose isn't going to make or break storm in an environment.
Gaea's Cradle is already one of the most broken cards in Magic, ditto Tolarian Academy. They already have untapping help. They don't need it. Voyaging Satyr abuses those cards. It's not hard to do.
I agree. I honestly don't think any competitive deck would play the card. In Legacy there are better options, in Modern it doesn't provide mana advantage.
I don't often think in terms of legacy, but I could see the card getting a look in Modern. I don't think the card is busted on its own in Modern, but the format already has 3 other "free" draw spells, so I'm not sure they would print another. That said, I really liked the card and don't regret picking it as my #1 for the round.

If nothing else, this month I learned that I should never try "simplest is best". It just isn't exciting enough to get any votes even if the card is solid.
It's so much more than a free cantrip. And the difference between 1(R/G) and (G/U) is massive. Satyr Wayfinder - uh, what?
Like I said, I really like the card too and am not trying to get anyone to regret picking it. Just thought it interesting that nobody else even considered how busted it is. Because it is busted. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised though, you guys are always picking busted stuff over in the DCC anyways.
If it helps, I thought it's pretty dangerous as well. Won't go so far as to say busted, but it does feed storm and can arguably replace Gitaxian Probe, so I'm a bit concerned.
There's potential for abuse, for sure, but it is not busted by any means. The only land in modern I can think of that could combo is Nyktos, and it requires some setup. Like people said, broken lands are broken, they do not need such card to be broken.

Trophyless guy.
Thought of the Month: I gave up from trying to require the 'i' on my name: SolesticIo
Please forgive me, but I don't get the reference to Satyr Wayfinder. As far as Gentle Rain goes, I just love the entirety of the card. I'm not denying that it might be broken when combined with busted Legacy cards, but I just don't think the card would break Modern, and definitely not Standard or Limited (unless they made the mistake of printing something that combos powerfully with it). It may be strong card in Modern, but that just adds to the card's appeal. Of course I've never claimed to be any sort of authority on MTG card design (or even MTG in general), but I certainly enjoy a good discussion.

Me too. That's why I brought it up. You know, there was a time when it would have been a big hell no, but maybe I'm just living in the past and Magic's ready for it now. Frankly, I hope so.
To be honest, I'm not really sure they would print this for the reason I gave in my crit, and I'm not even sure I would want them to. We already have three "free" card draws in Modern, and I'm not sure there is room for a fourth. It would make it so that combo players could basically just run a 44 card deck, which seems a bit crazy. I'm not sure it would do much outside of deck thinning/searching in Modern though. I just don't see anything crazy that this combos with. Maybe it would be good in Tron? But it actually seems a bit like overkill. I've seen a mono-green, enchant land, ramp deck that would love the card, but I doubt it would make the deck any more viable. If you wanted to make it so that it didn't need to be banned in Legacy, it could just be changed to untap target basic land, which would tone it down quite a bit. Actually that version would fit nicely into my basic land focused set I've been thinking about for a while now.

I just don't see anything crazy [in Modern] that this combos with.
I guess it doesn't combo with anything extant in Modern (afaik), but it does make some T1 decks even better. And it's the kind of card that awakens sleeping giants.
it could just be changed to untap target basic land
Great idea! (Can't believe I didn't think of that.)
However, all of this being said, there's always the possibility that WotC might print something like this because they actually want to stir up eternal formats.
I don't see the confusion in the green card. That meaning requires the word "total" - see Formidable or Mossbridge Troll and Reveillark specifically. I agree that it should be "two creatures other than enchanted creature", but I didn't want to complicate even more, and I guess the trapped individual could exert some force as well?
I also don't get the "more black flavor/effect" references in the second one. Could you help me here?
About the green card - You don't see the confusion because your knowledge of magic affects your understanding of the card. As I've said, try and see this as a brand new player. It's the same reasoning which causes Wizards to template some ETB effects as "When this or another FOO enter the battlefield" and "Whenever another FOO enters the battlefield", but never "Whenever a FOO enters the battlefield". It's a small issue, but it sticks out in a top-down design, since each reading effects the flavor.
As for the black, I can't speak for moss, but I think he meant to say that the "Sacrifice this unless you pay" effect brings to mind extortion from a flavor perspective, which is black rather than red.
There is a scoring system laid out in the OP of this thread also.

Unfortunately, this can only be played when there are four players. You could have made do without the limit on player per choice.
Can you clarify this? The intention for my card was that in one-on-one, you can choose one mode for yourself and one for your opponent. Is there something in the wording that prevents that?
