@doomfish
Why i chose phoenix. Its a fire bird so phoenix was the first choice. Inspired by Chandra's Spitfire, Chandra set clouds on fire! Clouds on fire! I thought it was awesome . So i made a phoenix that burns wind, the wind itself combusts like a horde of wisps that killed Archimonde in Warcraft 3. Wind on fire! . The poem is 5-7-5 syllables to make a haiku.
also I realized we have no fireball smileys, or the machine-gun smiley.
edit: i only realize now that Chandra's Spitfire was not a phoenix

MtG is where you can hate white players or black players, and still not be racist.
A couple quick thoughts on my submission for the final round of August....I'm a little surprised everybody didn't seem to like my flavor text. I'm a big fan of sweet and simple one liners for flavor text, and I am very fond of the flavor text of this particular card. It is supposed to represent the fact that you are disassembling an artifact to use as spare parts to reassemble broken artifacts. I can't think of anything cleaner and more representative of the idea behind the card.
For me at least, it was less about simplicity and more about being interesting. Your word choice was a bit subpar for my liking, using two very overused verbs and too many pronouns. Here's some flavor text I just came up with: "The past's works are my present. The end result, your future."
"Fetch me my hammer, we've repairing to do!"
Both use more uncommon word choice and less typical sentence structure that make them fun to read.
To your benefit, though, I didn't like the lack of flavor from the rest of the competitors, either.

I understand what you're saying about the pronoun thing (although both your offered alternatives also use only pronouns, although admitted less than mine does). The flavor would be more immersive if it told a story about what was being fixed and who was fixing it, or why the sacrificed artifact is less important than the ones it is being sacrificed to fix. As far as overused verbs are concerned, I only use two in the FT (fix and find), and one (fix) has only been used in the same context once before according to a search of magiccards.info (Trickster Mage). Every other time it is being used in the context of something being fixed upon something else (His helmet was fixed upon his head). As far as your suggested alternatives are concerned, the first one seems weird because I'm not sure who's "future" the speaker is referring to. It would seem like he's speaking to the artifact that is being sacrificed, but that makes no sense if it's a nonartifact creature. The second suggestion seems very similar to mine as far as depth is concerned, but doesn't convey the mechanics of the card as well since it makes no reference to the sacrificed artifact. It sounds more like FT that should be on something related to equipment. Anyway, I get what you are all saying, but I still like how simply my card conveys exactly what is happening in the card's mechanics, which isn't always easy to do. Flavor can sometimes be a rather subjective idea, it is fine for people to have differing opinions on it at times, and mine seems to be the minority opinion this time.

Oh, sorry for the lack of clarity; I meant fix and find are terribly boring and overused in the English language as a whole. My point was, from a writing standpoint, it's kind of dull and uninteresting.

Baloth Yearling (Common) 2G
Creature - Beast
2/2
Ravenous 2 (When this enters the battlefield, you may exile a creature card from your graveyard. If you do, put two +1/+1 counters on this.) "Young baloths can eat double their weight every day. Now that I think about it, so can old baloths." - Gergwyn, Small Game Hunter
Design - (0.5/3) Appeal: Despite this looking like it should be a Timmy card, it is a little too small for Timmy, and even if it gets bigger, it actually would still be a little too small for him. Johnny does not need this card for his machinations. Spike does not need this card for her gameplay, either, as it is basically an on-curve vanilla creature currently. (2.5/3) Elegance: The improper textual template that has been used here detracts from this card's elegance score. If this were actually printed, I feel as though the text would sort of be all over the place in an unfamiliar way. Ravenous itself does not seem to be inelegant design.
Development - (2.5/3) Viability: This card definitely goes with the grain of New World Order, and hence can exist at common. Exiling cards from graveyards can be done at green, but it would typically done in all other colors first, so it is not quite a perfect fit onto the color wheel. +1/+1 counters are definitely green, however. If I read this card without seeing any colors, I would probably try and put it into black on the color wheel first, and then green afterwards. (3/3) Balance: A 4/4 for 2G is rather strong, yet that actually feeds into the primary strength of green, its creatures. Besides, Leatherback Baloth was a perfectly fine card. If this card whiffs, it is only a 2/2 for 2G, which is almost unplayable anyway. It is a little bit rough, although certainly not unusual, to have a creature in your graveyard by turn 3 as well.
Basically, this card is fine in all formats, casual, and multiplayer.
Creativity - (1/3) Uniqueness: Admittedly, ravenous is a custom keyword, but awarding full uniqueness points for that alone just seems at least a little bit silly. As it stands, this custom keyword reads a little bit like an inverse of scavenge mixed with devour. Cards that exile cards from graveyards as a cost has been done aplenty as well. (2/3) Flavor: I like the name, but the flavor text is a little wordy for my liking as a Vorthos. Nonetheless, this new keyword does play somewhat nicely with the intent of this card's flavor.
Polish - (0/3) Quality: This card has its templating all wrong, unfortunately, even as a text card. The rarity should be next to the card's types, the mana cost should be next to the name, and the power/toughness should be below the rules text and the flavor text rather than above (minus one and a half points). The name of the person credited with saying the quotation requires it's own line in the flavor text (minus half a point). There should also be no space between the dash and the person's name (minus half a point). Furthermore, reminder text for this new ravenous keyword is not correct; the word "creature" should come immediately after both instances of 'this' (minus half a point).
As a final note, the dash right next to the name of person being credited with the quotation should be a long dash '—' and not a short dash. (2/2) Main Challenge: Main challenge met! (2/2) Subchallenges: Both subchallenges met!
Total: 15.5/25
Final thought(s): Do not be discouraged! Ravenous looks like it is a keyword that has some sort of promise in the right sort of set, surely. I cannot wait to see more instances of it in your cards.
I'm not discouraged. Don't get discouraged by what I'm about to say... your critique of my card is WAY off base. Green doesn't exile cards from graveyards but blue does? Neither Timmy, Johnny, nor Spike can set up a 4/4 for 3 or garner some combat value off of your opponent's concern for Ravenous? There's plenty of existing cards that already do this? The flavor text is a little long? The quality, I'm like what are you even talking about? The dash isn't long enough? Do I need a word processor to compete? I've used the same templating ever since the first GDS because that's when I learned that's how WotC templates text list cards. Is R&D doing it wrong?
I'm not even mad either. I'm honestly not. It's just a game. But I do feel a little cheated.
I haven't been active on here for a while, but I wanted to point out something that I noticed in the recent scorings for appeal that have me fairly concerned. The player archetypes of Timmy Johnny and Spike are being evaluated as the stereotypical and simplified versions of them. Timmy is not simply "big creatures," but rather doing -stuff- even if usually on a large scale.
Johnny is not only combo, but rather finding ways to use a card that aren't immediately apparent. Combo is actually a mix of Johnny with the other two, either for efficiency or for effects.
It may be silly, but as a Timmy and Johnny combination, myself, that oversimplification bothers me, especially when such large point amounts are being removed for a different dash type or other tiny things.
I can only speak for myself as a judge. I know what you mention, it's just that I should write a lot more to explain the further details, and I'm already one of the judges who writes the most, so I wouldn't want to make my judgments even longer. It's just that often it's more practical and quick to write it that way. If there is anything particular and out of the ordinary to say in the case of a specific card, I will write it in more detail, but when it's not needed it's one of the places where I try to cut useless words, and if you noticed I'm not that good at being concise... that's all! Thanks for the notice anyway, I'll try to do better in future judgments while still not making them too long.

That actually makes sense, I always think of it being in terms of splashy, build-around, and efficiency for the three player types, myself, when trying to boil them down to an essence.

Dear judges, thanks for your work, and I am really glad I got high rating from you and looking forward for Round 4, but can you explain something for me now - what exactly means "unnecessary space in between the words “battlefield” and “manifest” in the first line of rules text"? Both of judges, Flatline and Blydden, mentioned it but I am certainly can't (and I lost some points due to it, not nesessary right now but can probably matter later). Because I checked it multiple times and still can see only ONE space between those words as it was typed.
And for gratitude, let me add some trivia about my card called "All or Nothing" - as you said, Blydden, "Oh, dear, has this submission ever so stressed out my usual sensibilities! Forgive me, but I think I would just have to walk away from the table if this card was ever played against me in a game. Even if only for a few minutes, just enough time for a hot cup of soothing chamomile tea." - that's absolutely right! At 2006, I played my first Magic Constructed game with my friend's deck - and played against white deck. My opponent somehow managed itself to 30+ life total and then dropped Storm Herd - how do you feel about playing against 30+ creature tokens? I had much more crazy Commander games last year - but then, I felt extremely bad as beginning player - so bad, I even dropped Magic for 6 (!) years and returned only, ironically, when Return to Ravnica appeared at 2012. And now I am here. Also about this card's appeal: I am a huge Timmy but sometimes I play blue in Commander. And you guys know which my favorite blue card is? That's right, Enter the Infinite! Fantastically badass, literally Timmy of blue spells - don't get some cards, get ALL of them! And I swear, my card can be used by Johnny/Jenny players as good as Enter the Infinite can - and not as immediately win condition only! Just add something to recharge your library (I prefer Elixir of Immortality or Blue Sun's Zenith with X=0 for blue) and combo is done - a LOT of stuff you can use for the win AND the library just to make sure you will not lose next turn because your library is empty.
Thanks for listening my boring story!
@Raptorchan...First off, I didn't find your story boring at all. Thanks for sharing. As for the extra space, it is certainly there. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if it weren't for the fact that I quote the posts, and then copy them into Word for critiquing. Word had that area underlined in blue, which made me notice the extra space between the comma and "manifest". To be honest, I really don't like nitpicking such things, but this is the MCC, and these sort of errors are supposed to be discounted from your score. Look on the bright side, you still made it through the round even with the extra space.
Edit: I just read Blydenn's crit of your card, and it made me realize I probably should've subtracted a 1/2 point for not including the manifest reminder text. At least it didn't change the results.

I can also confirm there are indeed two spaces in the source code of the post, it is something I noticed too even though your card was not in my bracket. The attachment is a screenshot of how I see the source code, and you can see the double space is there in the source code, even though the text doesn't actually look like there is a double space there.
Your story was nice, I remember that card and I was also a new player back then. I started with original Ravnica, the set right before the one with Storm Herd and I also have had it played against me, even if never for such a high amount, so I can totally see a new player being frustated by so many tokens, but later he or she will learn that a single Pyroclasm (or one of the many similar effects) can get rid of all of them at once. Anyway, now you're here, and that's all that matters!

For me at least, it was less about simplicity and more about being interesting. Your word choice was a bit subpar for my liking, using two very overused verbs and too many pronouns. Here's some flavor text I just came up with:
"The past's works are my present. The end result, your future."
"Fetch me my hammer, we've repairing to do!"
Both use more uncommon word choice and less typical sentence structure that make them fun to read.
To your benefit, though, I didn't like the lack of flavor from the rest of the competitors, either.
