A great article posted by Sam Stoddard today about the development of cards for Spikes. I thought it was a very interesting read and has provided me some helpful insights about custom card designed for the Spike appeal.
I'm very thankful for the big participation in August Round 1, but that means we absolutely need a fourth judge for August. If you haven't yet posted a card and you're willing to help, please head to the judge signup thread. Thanks.

I know I'm not running the MCC, but hopefully bravelion doesn't mind me answering this......That is totally doable. Just post a judgment of the sample card in the judge signup thread. I wouldn't erase your card though. If you are accepted as a judge, it will just be treated as a judge's entry. Judge's entries are not official entries into the contest, but they are definitely not unprecedented.

@Blydden: What Flatline said (thanks, Flatline ). I just saw you posted a sample judgment, I'm going to look at it now. I would prefer if the fourth judge wasn't someone who's already playing, but if there's no alternative and your sample judgment is good enough (I still have to look at it), I'll definitely take you as a judge anyway. Coming back to you soon.
EDIT: Well, what can I say to a fellow judge who has just been admitted to judge after the wonderful sample judgment they made (and incidentially saved the day by doing that)? Feel free to leave your card in, it'll count as a judge card, as Flatline mentioned. That means that's the card you would have submitted if you were a player. Some judges (myself included) like to do them every now and them, whenever they feel like it. If they want to do so, obviously it must be done after the player deadline (a case such yours of a player who later becomes judge in round 1 is the exception to this) and your card won't be judged by any judge, it's just a fun thing you can do if you want. Of course if you want it judged, just say so and you'll certainly find some judge available (that will often be me but not necessarily), but it will be judged out of competition and only after they are done with their official bracket.

With that, I am officially dropping out of the August 2016 MCC as a player to step into the role of judge and day savior #4 for the month. Any other judge who wishes to judge my entry is free to do so. (By all means, it would be great. Thank you in advance.)
Bravelion, as always your judgements are accurate and a great learning experience. I had actually forgotten Sen Triplets existed until you referenced them in regards to the hand reveal trigger, thank you
Unless my math is off......Congrats to both glurman and RaikuRider for co-winning the July MCC! Also, thank you to all the judges and to bravelion for another job well done.
As far as my finals entry is concerned.....I had a lot of trouble coming up with something I liked for the challenge, and I ended up throwing my entry together at the last minute without a lot time to detail check things, which obviously shows in the final result (I've never gotten a zero in quality before ). It didn't help that I really don't like meld at all. It's gotta be my second least favorite mechanic behind infect (maybe banding if that counts). I have to say though, I don't think No Man's Land "does nothing". Putting it on a Celestial Colonnade against U/W control in Modern certainly would do something. Necarg, once again I disagree with your judgments. I was going for the antithesis of Serene Master. Therefore there should be no points deducted for the wording. Also, there is no chance this is more powerful than Monastery Swiftspear. Just... don't block? It's a one damage tempo clock.
1) I searched through the entire gatherer database for cards that become busted in combination with the converted mana cost changing ability and got nothing...
I kind of agree with you here, I tried myself to think of something broken involving the CMC-changing ability and I wasn't able to come up with anything either, but I also didn't have the time to make a thorough research as I wrote my judgments. I'm still not convinced that there isn't anything though, I have a feeling there must be something broken involving that, but indeed I may just be wrong about that. It's still an ability that has at least the potential to become dangerous. Further research may (or may not) follow.
2. Did I mention Muzzio, Visionary Architect? This card is meant as a companion card to Muzzio which makes sense given that the challenge was to represent a design of Muzzio or Daretti. Both abilities of my design synergize with Muzzio (that is how the abilities are connected) and unfortunately there is zero mention of this in my critique!
That's because I just completely forgot Muzzio's card. My bad. Yes, your card has a wonderful interaction with Muzzio, and it makes complete sense. Still, a player is required to know about Muzzio's card for the two abilities to feel connected, they don't if you only read your card by itself. As an 11-year player I should have catched that, but a new player that just started playing after the original Conspiracy won't get it for sure. I think I'll adjust your Elegance score because of this, but it won't be enough for you to pass.
It may seem strange, but I didn't look at the characters' cards as I planned this month's challenges, I "just" went back to reread all stories about them. Well, knowing what's about to come up (being host has its advantages...), I think I'll have to make sure to go back and read a few other cards from the original Conspiracy, and spoilers from the new one too...

If bravelion83 nor another veteran host of the MCC wish to host the September 2016 MCC...(With something as exciting as Kaladesh coming up soon, I would be surprised if nothing has been planned out already!)...then I would volunteer as a substitute! If you would have me, that is.
With something as exciting as Kaladesh coming up soon, I would be surprised if nothing has been planned out already!
I had already thought to host the obligatory Kaladesh month, but I would have done it in October. Kaladesh is out the last day of September and it could be a problem (especially for judges) to do an MCC about/with Kaladesh mechanics before we even get to not only know them but also play with them, which I feel is kind of necessary for judges to make proper judgments.
For the record, it's not up to me but I personally have no problem with you hosting September. We'd swap roles for once: you'd host and I'd judge!

Now, on with the show!
See you in Round 2!
@Necarg, your metrics seem REALLY strict for a set that has only three meld pairs. As an engineer that sample size would give me an aneurysm.

• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
EDIT: Your judgment has just been reviewed.

I'll add it to the list. It's an excellent idea, thank you.

As you wrote this, I already had looked into this behind the scenes. Anyway, those judgments are now in, so round 3 is coming in a few minutes.

Okay, then count me in for September! I already have ideas, so I would likely just need a little help designing objects like the banner and...
(Oh my goodness, maybe I am in a little over my head here...exciting!)
Thank you both for your shows of faith!
