Isn't this just Bestow without the enchantment clause?
Thank you Captain Obvious. Yes, it's just Bestow (without the design and development baggage of enchantments). You caught me. I was trying to be cool, but my plan backfired.
Just kidding. You couldn't have known this, but I/we started this project right before Theros was spoiled and "Bestow" (with a different name of course) was proposed as a Simic mechanic, but it was summarily rejected because of the flavor fail Auras brought to the Simic table and the mechanical baggage it brought to Ravnica. So here it is, reconceived.
Well, seeing as it's functionally non-enchantment Bestow, it's easy to gauge these.
Spinal Viper is slightly better than Baleful Eidolon, which seems appropriate for green. I'd rather see it cost G and Embed for 3G though, green commons can typically bear even more of and efficiency upgrade than you've given this.
Writhing Tentacles cannot be a common. An 8/8 trample for 10 would be at best an uncommon in green, and a rare in blue, barring a bizarre environment like Battle for Zendikar. The Symbiotic ability is cheaper than the casting cost, and is a facsimile of Mythic Proportions, a green rare in its own right. The fact that you get an 8/8 trample out of it when it dies too, I can't see this working in blue at all. It's a green rare for sure, and I would definitely make the base cost less than the Symbiotic cost, otherwise you're never going to even try playing it without the symbiote.
Thanks you so much for the feedback saneatali! Writhing tentacles is supposed to be a rare. I'll fix that right now... aaaand there done. Writhing tentacles could definitely be green, but it could just as well be blue. (Can it not?) After all, blue does get its Krakens and Octopi. It may not even make the final cut. I literally just whipped up two cards featuring Symbiotic to get lots and lots and lots of feedback about it. Like, do "symbiotic" and "embedded" make sense?
Thanks again.
Well, the body could be blue, but blue doesn't typically get major buffing auras, which is what you've got here.
What if you turned the only Symbiotic ability green? That would be cool and fit the Simic just fine.
Also, at rare, I would bring the casting cost down to 5UU, putting the normal mana cost higher than the cost for the better effect doesn't really make sense, it just discourages players from playing the card normally, even when it would be advantageous to do so.
On average, symbiotic costs should be higher than the costs of equivalent bestow creatures. It's much harder to interact with than auras, and the bounce weakness is marginal enough not to make up for that entirely.
The wording seems fine, since there are only so many words that describe a symbiotic relationship.
The reminder text seems really unclear to me what happens if you try to embed but the creature is killed while the embedded on is on the stack.
The name also doesn't quite get there for me, but sadly we have just lost "meld" as an option...
Otherwise the mechanic does feel strongly Simic. It's the embodiment of the krasis concept after all (hey, could that be a potential name?). I'm not sure if a window-redressed bestow is satisfying from a design standpoint, but that's a decision for you to take.
Thanks guys! I think I've come up with better terminology. I'm not sure what is meant by nonstandard timing.
You choose targets for Auras as you cast the spell since Aura spells/enchant abilities target. But this ability does not target, so the creature is chosen on resolution. This will be not intuitive to players used to the way Auras work.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

So you're saying it should target (if it's to be intuitive)?

Probably. I'm not exactly a beginner and I was still assuming there was probably some implied targeting somewhere.
Bestow is Bestow. I see no reason to print Trample 2, Flying 2, or reworded Fear version 12; so I see no reason to make this a new keyword.
The fact your implant costs are identical to their casting cost means they're pretty much all too good.
When your design is close to a wizards design and yet you don't understand why they did something differently than you did (having a separate bestow cost), you've neglected something.
