I know all of these things. I'd probably pair it up with mechanics that balance those.
Anyway, here is the shiznit, it's a mechanic for URG:
Oneironaut | R Creature – Human Wizard Projection – During your attack phase, if Oneironaut may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put a 2/1 colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile it at the beginning of your end step. 0/1
Soaring Dreamer | 1U Creature – Human Wizard Projection – During your attack phase, if Soaring Dreamer may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put a 2/1 colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. That token gains flying until end of turn. Exile it at the beginning of your end step. 0/3
Dreamcatcher Elm | 1GG Creature – Treefolk Shaman Projection – During your attack phase, if Dreamcatcher Elm may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put two 2/1 colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile them at the beginning of your end step. 2/4
Warsoul Invoker | GR Creature – Orc Barbarian Shaman Projection – During your attack phase, if Warsoul Invoker may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put an X/X colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. It's power and toughness are the double of Warsoul Invoker's power and toughness. Exile it at the beginning of your end step. 2/2
Doran's Heretic | UG Creature – Treefolk Shaman Projection – During your attack phase, if Doran's Heretic may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put an X/X colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. It's power and toughness are equal to Doran's Heretic's toughness. Exile it at the beginning of your end step. 0/3
Fervered Psychonaut | 2UR Creature – Orc Wizard
Haste Projection – During your attack phase, if Fervered Psychonaut may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put a 2/1 colorless Illusion token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. You may have that token enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield. Exile it at the beginning of your end step. 1/2
Consciousness Virus | 1URG Creature – Mutant Illusion
Whenever an Illusion you control deals combat damage to an opponent, put a token on the battlefield that's a copy of Consciousness Virus. Projection – During your attack phase, if Consciousness Virus may attack, you may tap it. If you do, put three 2/1 colorless Illusions token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile them at the beginning of your end step. 6/3
Seems all right to me. I like it and it the colors you picked for it feel right. I suggest this wording:
Projection- Whenever ~ attacks, you may remove it from combat. If you do, create a 2/1 colorless Illusion creature token that's tapped and attacking. Exile that token at the beginning of your end step. (A creature removed from combat is no longer attacking.)
Man this is a cool mechanic. Looks like it belongs in Dreamscape. Perhaps the tokens could be mirrors of their creators.
Astral Soul (Common) 1U
Creature - Spirit
1/2
Project 1 (Whenever this creature could attack, you may instead create a 2/1 Illusion creature token that's attacking. Exile it at end of combat.)
I rather like what you've done with this ability and where you put it. The only problem I have is your base size being 2/1. This is not too strange but tokens with non square stats need good justification. If your plan for keeping them in check is instant speed -1/-1 effects I get why they aren't 2/2, if you have a number of low power firststrikers then it again makes sense. Unless you want this to be good against those kind of effects. Though the main reason I have a problem with them as 2/1 is that Warsoul Invoker and Doran's Heretic each create large toughness creatures if they made X/1 tokens instead it would feel better that the general tokens were 2/1.
I like it, it's similar to something I was tinkering with using Nightmares. If you make the tokens a standard size and vanilla, you could roll it into a keyword and then have a separate ability line that grants the Projection tokens abilities on a card-by-card basis. I would also recommend exiling the tokens at end of combat rather than at end of turn. They interact very strongly with extra combat steps otherwise.
Projection # (At any time that this creature could attack, you may tap it and create # 2/1 colorless Illusion creature tokens tapped and attacking. Exile that/those tokens at end of combat.)
