The other day I felt the urge to do a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon and, while watching the 2nd movie, an idea came to my mind about a legendary ship card for MTG.
Since the only ship that qualifies is, frankly, quite terrible, I wanted to make one that's at least more playable in EDH. Maybe some new combo arises.
Counting Wraiths is a little... odd. Especially since other "ghostly undead" creatures like Shades aren't counted.
You can drop the islandhome-y drawback. It already costs blue to cast. I know it's a Ship but it eats up valuable space.
You can also move the cast-from-exile thing to the abilities of the card itself to prevent memory issues: "You may cast Spirit and Wraith cards exiled with The Ghostveil."
Finally, this is going to scale small for its cost, and using its marquee ability will only make it smaller; consider changimg the p/t defining ability to maybe make it a base 1/1, at least.
The p/t setting ability is a little awkward. I would suggest giving it a flat power/toughness - 2/2, perhaps? - and saying "~ gets +1/+1 for each...".
I would also consider having it count your Spirits/Wraiths on the battlefield rather than in your graveyard. This encourages use of the activated ability rather than punishing for you doing it.If you want, you could have it count both, a la Soulless One.
Mmm, actually have the effect care about the battlefield and grave sounds smart. Maybe set P/T like you suggested. But if I make it care about field and grave, my fear is that it would become too powerful. Jarad already has a similar ability but he only cares for one, not both.
Besides, what would be the use of a giant creature if you have to tap it to use the ability?
I can see how having critters on the field helps with the flavor: it's your crew after all. But the grave...?

"One must not rest until the entirety of the Universe has been made Compleat"
Due to "No Artist Credit" warning, I shall repost the card as text only (couldn't find the original artist):
The Ghostveil - 3U
Rarity: Mythic
Card Type / Subtype: Legendary Artifact Creature - Ship
P/T: 1/1
The Ghostveil gets +1/+1 for each Spirit and Wraith creature card you control and in your graveyard. WB, T, exile target creature card from your graveyard: Target opponent loses 3 life and you gain 3 life.
You may cast Spirit and Wraith creature cards exiled with The Ghostveil.
“A safe haven for tormented souls who do not want to go across the Way”.
PD: I don't know why it INSISTS on showing the Chaos symbol.
Neat concept, but I don't quite get the flavor with exiling and casting from exile.
I think the line about casting from exile should go after the effect that exiles, though. It's strange to read in its current form.

You burn the souls of the crew as ammo for the ship's cannons, but they do not disappear completely. The spiritual energy of the ship keeps them around, and they can be recalled to serve the vessel again and again.
Is it better to keep the creature exile as part of the cost or part of the effect? Making it cost-related would make the exiling un-counterable.
You only need "T" in mana tags to get the tap symbol
Here's my take on your concept:
The GhostveilWUB
Legendary Artifact Creature - Ship (M)
Whenever The Ghostveil attacks, defending player loses 1 life for each Spirit you control and each Spirit card in your graveyard. 2WB: Return target Spirit creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
0/4
I guess you can tack on gaining life and Wraiths if you really like, but this would be a fine commander for a Spirit deck.

Wouldn't the life loss be too much? Otherwise, it's a good concept. Maybe mine is a little underpowered.

The "tap for life loss" ability is super flavorful: the ship goes sideways to fire it's cannons. And the souls of the crew are the ammo.

The base P/T is 1 because every ship NEEDS it's captain.
