For Dreamscape of Noctus
I'm currently got the set on hold for a few days due to having a 10 person playtest session this sunday. Therefore I'll be showing off some of the rares and mythics for a change.
I definitely thing that currently rares are my weakness in design and therefore I'd appreciate feedback on this bunch as I've been trying to improve.
Ral Zarek, Dream Artist
Planeswalker - Ral (M)
Starting Loyalty: 5
+2: Search your library for an instant or sorcery card and reveal that card. Shuffle your library, then put the card on top of it.
-2: Until your next turn, whenever you cast a spell, Ral Zarek, Dream Artist deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
-11: You get an emblem with "You may cast nonland cards from your hand without paying their mana cost."
Aural Renewal
Sorcery (R)
Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Then return any number of Aura card from your graveyard to the battlefield and attach them to that creature.
Enigmamatic Sphinx
Creature - Sphinx (R)
Flying
Premonition 3- (Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay and put this card into your library face up beneath the top three cards. When it reaches the top, cast it for free.)
You may activate Enigmatic Sphinx's premonition ability from your graveyard.
5/5
Sunbloomer
Creature - Dryad (R)
Whenever you put a +1/+1 counter on Sunbloomer, you may put a +1/+1 counter on each non-Dyad creature you control instead.
2/2
Fortold Mox
Artifact (M)
: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Premonition 3-0(Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay 0 and put this card into your library face up beneath the top three cards. When it reaches the top, cast it for free.)
Ral Zarek doesn't have a starting loyalty indicator.
Foretold Mox may be OP based on Ancestral Vision vs Ancestral Recall, it's definitely very powerful as-is.

Powerful but I'm told its probably not broken by players who play far more Modern than I do. (And I don't design my cards for Legacy/Vintage)
You should probably change the reminder text, then. "When" denotes a triggered ability and could easily cause confusion if the ability isn't actually a trigger.
So which is it? Is it a replacement effect (as in the quoted post) or a triggered ability (as in the first post)? I understand that the warp thread was by no means the final iteration of the mechanic, but I think it's important to settle on one version rather than go with both versions in different scenarios.

How to use card tags (please use them for everybody's sanity)
[c]Lightning Bolt[/c] -> Lightning Bolt
[c=Lightning Bolt]Apple Pie[/c] -> Apple Pie
Vowels-Only Format Minimum deck size: 60 Maximum number of identical cards: 4 Ban list: Cards whose English names begin with a consonant, Unglued and Unhinged cards, cards involving ante, Ancestral Recall
Definitely a replacement effect (as a triggered ability doesn't work with multiple card draw)
I'll update the wording tonight to try and make it clearer. Any suggestions?
EDIT:
Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay X and put this card into your library face up beneath the top three cards. If it reaches the top, cast it for free instead.
I like this batch. These cards all seem to be good and balanced. Though I do like these cards, I will say that this batch is mostly Melvin-y and none of these cards seem super exciting or splashy to me.
A couple of grammar nitpicks:
Aura Renewal: should be "Aura cards"
Sunbloomer: should be "non-Dryad"
Changed Enigma Sphinx's name as well as its ability. I'm assuming that this wording works but I'd love confirmation/
Because premonition is a special action, rather than an activated ability, the third ability does nothing. Maybe:
You may put Enigma Sphinx from your graveyard into your library using its premonition ability as though it were in your hand.

How is Premonition not a ability? I think it should mirror Suspend in this regard: "suspending" the cards is an ability (therefore Stifleable) and after the condition is fulfilled it is cast (therefore Counterspellable).
Suspending a card doesn't use the stack. Suspend means if you could begin casting it, you can instead pay the suspend cost and exile it with X time counters on it. You can stifle the removal of counters or the cast trigger, but you can't stifle the exiling of it.
[3/3/15 9:09:41 PM] Tyler Girvan: fits in with chrome mox
[3/3/15 9:12:02 PM] Tyler Girvan: since it only add one mana, it is almost fair
[3/3/15 9:12:23 PM] Tyler Girvan: Will require testing, still has high probability to break
[3/3/15 9:12:46 PM] Tyler Girvan: Might have to delay it another turn despite losing the 3 reference
Yeah, my thoughts still stands on the mox.
Ral: His ult feels off allowing you to cast creatures. Doesn't fit his character.
Renewel is good, the sphinx is fine once you deal with wording quips, and dryad is... underwhelming. Feels like an uncommon.
Face up cards in the library doesn't work. How are you suppose to shuffle if one is in there?
They most definitely do work
Quote from MOONE edited by Doombringer »
702.WRP. Premonition
702.WRPa Premonition is a keyword that represents a static ability that functions while the card with warp is in a player's hand. "Premonition N -- [cost]" means "If you could begin to cast this card by putting it onto the stack from your hand and your library has at least N cards in it, you may pay [cost] and put it onto your library beneath the Nth card of your library. This card becomes warped. This action doesn't use the stack."
702.WRPb Cards that are put into a player's library by the Premonition ability are put into the library face up. This is an exception to rule 401.2. Players should keep face up cards in an orientation separate from the orientation of cards in a library that are not warped.
702.WRPc If a face up card in a library would become the top card of a player's library, that player casts it without paying its mana cost instead. If that player can't, he or she turns the warped card face down instead and it becomes the top card of his or her library. It is no longer warped.
702.WRPd If a one-shot effect causes a player to reveal, shuffle, or randomize the order of a card or cards in a library, at least one of which is face up, each such card is turned face down, and then the cards are revealed, shuffled, or randomized.
702.WRPe If a continuous effect causes a face up card to be revealed, that card is both revealed and is face up. If the card somehow ceases to be revealed, the card remains face up.
702.WRPf If a one-shot effect causes an object to be put into the library "face up beneath the top N cards of [a player's] library," and that player's library has N or more cards in it, that player puts that card onto his or her library using the process described in rule 702.WRPb.
Premonition feels like a very dangerous mechanic in a world where cantrips exist. If the card is broken beyond belief if its Premonition cost was its mana cost, it's probably unprintable.
I do not like Ral. +2ing him each turn ensures you always draw a counterspell effect (or more likely, a 'Counter plus do something' effect like Cryptic Command or similar). I love reactive decks and even I think this will feel oppressive to play against.
Not to mention, +2ing him and getting Time Warp - again, and again, and again.
I don't think the +2 is salvageable.
Aural Renewal feels on the border between rare and mythic to me, and probably just on the mythic side. It's a huge change to the gamestate (like Ghastly Conscription).
Also, Sunbloomer feels like a Limited 'build around me' uncommon, and should be worded slightly differently:
"If one or more +1/+1 counters would be placed upon ~, you may instead put that many counters on each non-Dryad creature you control".
Another option would be
"If one or more +1/+1 counters would be placed upon ~, you may instead put that many counters on each creature you control that is not named Sunbloomer".

Good catch....Maybe I'll change to be similar to my memoir cards? (Mill from Library or dies trigger)
Magic treats multiple card draws as separate actions and thus the top card would be drawn, you cast the premonition card for free, then draw the second card.
You can find more discussion about the mechanic here: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/creativity/custom-card-creation/597407-a-big-ol-warp-thread?page=2
I'll also be writing up a CR and FAQ for all my mechanics soon.
