For those following Dominaria and the DOM-XI-CtG metagame: as I was working with the 3-color designs in this block, it became painfully obvious to me that the complexity-monster was about to eat Dominaria block alive. I decided that I needed a third Coalition keyword to reduce the conceptual complexity of the block's 3-color designs. It needed to be a keyword that went on monocolor permanents, but used mana of the other colors in each color triad. And I wanted it to be playable in many different color modes.
The weird assortment of colors in this common cycle is intentional. There will also be an uncommon cycle (but not a rare cycle.) Each task cost represents one of the color pairs in Dominaria. Then, for each card, all of the costs taken together represent one of the color triads in Dominaria. If you do the math, you'll see that this formula only allows for 10 task cards in the set. The final 5 task cards for the Dominaria triads (that don't fit in Dominaria because they don't match the set's color pairs) are now slotted for Nexus. I will follow the same method for the pairs and triads in Icefall.
EDIT: Added "nonbasic" to Wasteland Hermit.
EDIT: Gathan Eradicator now hits only creatures (was "creature or enchantment).
EDIT: Reckless Alchemists now destroys an artifact, used to deal 3 to each player.
Looks like we had a flavor in mind. These are all solid, though I'll be the first to make the obligatory 3 cmc land destruction comment. It is interesting how only two of these are limited playable in task only colors.
"If its task cost was paid" is kind of immersion breaking/unaesthetic, how about "if it was tasked?"
Edit: A couple of years from now, I'm going to have some fun showing somebody this thread as the first from DOM-XI-CTG and telling them task was needed to reduce complexity. It is pretty grokkable though.
Edit: Does this mean there will be no C/C or C/D task cards?

Is 3 CMC LD still forbidden if you need two colors to cast it?
In any case, you're probably right in that I'm going to need to engage in a little bit of snow basic protectionism, and either jack up Wasteland Hermit's task cost or add "nonbasic" to the wording.
The Coalition faction's complexity bogeyman has actually been a really great boon in helping me to understand what the rank-and-file of the Kaldarjar faction is going to look like. Hint: snow supertype plus lots and lots of flavor text.

Well, I'm an L2 judge and task ate my brain alive on that front, so make of that what you will.
At first I thought it was a weird kicker variant. Then a charm variant. The conceptual framework I've settled on is a fuse spell, but where one side is a vanilla creature and the other side is a sorcery.
Also, why "task"? The name is boring, flavorless, and doesn't tell me why I'm supposed to put all these cards in the same mindspace.

Well, my aim in picking a name was to preserve the keyword for future use outside of a crazy X-color block, so I tried to give it a pretty generic flavor.
I'm not dead-set on it, but I'd prefer a flavor that just kind of gets out of the way of the 3-color designs and lets me imbue each card with whatever individual flavor I want it to have.
It's a fuse variant. If you need to explain it to anyone who knows what a fuse spell is, just tell them it works like a fuse spell. If you need to explain it to anyone else... "You can get the body for this cost, the effect for this cost, or both by paying the combination."
