Oh my, Knowledge Embargo at common seems really good.
Light speed is amazing.
My reference point for Knowledge Embargo was Curse of the Bloody Tome. But yeah, it's meant to get your head buzzing about how powerful a high spectrum count might be.
Glad you feel the same way I do about Light Speed. I tried about a million designs in the red enchantment slot, but as soon as I put those two effects together at that cost, bells started ringing.
I'm actually hoping it's Constructed playable. Sounds insane, and totally against how fast mana usually works, I know. But still...
I would be shocked if light speed wasn't constructed playable. I have to say, I'm kind of glad DRS got banned in modern, or I think some of the spectrum cards would need more scrutiny.
War Dancers and Mystics are good.
I'm willing to believe Knowledge Embargo could be okay, but it would definitely need an eye kept on it. Much safer in ICF due to draft details.
Consuming Ambitions makes me viscerally skittish, but intellectual I suspect it's fine.
Edit: Now that all the spectrum cards are out my brewing juices are flowing. Expect a decklist later tonight.
I wonder if giving flying to creatures you control with X or less power would be interesting. It scales well, and is probably common appropriate at the right cost.
Edit: Depending on how strict the enchantment requirement is, a spectrum Sleight of Hand might be cool. A seal might also be interesting, but there are concerns that new players might not play it correctly.
Edit 2: Decklists incoming this weekend, I'm doing some research.
Edit 3: I have three decklists now, but since I like a visual layout I took screenshots of them from MTGO, and I'm having technical difficulties attaching them which I will sort out tomorrow. For when those do go up: Orcish Lumberjack->Llanowar Goblin, Knight of Glory->Jamuraan Paladin, Hagra Crocodile->Griselmite, and Voidmage Prodigy->Customs Adept.
I think Light Speed+Curio would be a real modern deck though. It's not too hard to go off T3, or T4 with counter backup, and you get to play a lot of cantrips.
Edit 4: The first deck is an aggressive zooish shell for Paladin and fair uses of Light Speed. Note that it can go up to the full five spectrum using Garruk.
The second is the least competitive, but I think provides a good shell for the other spectrum cards which could conceivably see fringe play. Establish early board presence and try to lock people out with Adept, Resto, flashing back flickers. Griselmite can rez goyf/sculler/Geist as value plays, but ideally you play it with spectrum 4 and chain all your angels first.
This last one was fun to build, and ended up better than I expected going in. I emphasized consistency and interaction over speed, but it's possible that you should just run 4 bogles. It's also possible that 1-2 tutors for the curio would be useful.
Note: You actually want a one-of Manamorphose so you don't have to leave a land up or float W before going off, I think a probe comes out for it.
