I've been working on a mechanic that I've been having trouble wording. Here's my best attempt at it so far:
Consume N (This creature enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies, you may distribute its +1/+1 counters among any number of creatures you control. Put at most one counter on each creature this way.)
Is it clear at least what I'm trying to do here? Say you have two saproling tokens and a Consume 3 creature. When the Consume creature dies, you can put a +1/+1 counter on each of the saprolings, but the third won't have anywhere to be placed.
Consume N (This creature enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies, you may put a +1/+1 counter on up to N target creatures you control.)
No need to use distribute if its limited to only one per creature, just need to say that. Also, I'm curious as to the setting of this. Seems like I really nice Simic or BUG wedge-ish mechanic.
BaronVonGrixis: Except the second part wants to also reuse counters added from other sources similar to modular.
Consume is an odd name for this mechanic. It sounds like devour... that the creature with consume is eating, but mechanically+flavorfully the creature with consume seems to be being eaten.
anyway, maybe wording like this could make sense?
Thrive 2 (This enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies, for each creature you control, you may move a +1/+1 counter from this to that creature.)
