Considering that Vampires and Werewolves have been spoiled, and the set clearly has a horror theme, I am guessing there is going to be a night and day mechanic.
Each turn is Day by default. Instants/Creatures/Enchantments turn it from Day to Night, and Night creatures get a benefit for being in that state.
Examples:
Sudden Darkness B
Instant
It is Night until end of turn.
Waning Moon 2B
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, if Waning Moon has a moon counter, remove all counters from it. Otherwise, add a moon counter to it.
As long as Waning Moon has a moon counter on it, it is Night.
Bearwere 1G
Creature - Human Druid
Bearwere gets +1/+1 if it is Night.
2/2
Blood Shaman 2R
Creature - Human Shaman
Whenever a creature dies, it is Night until end of turn.
2/2
Moonhex 2B
Instant
Target creature gets -3/-3 until end of turn. If it is Night, that creature dies instead.
This is just the Homarid mechanic in disguise, isn't it?
It's global, which means it is slightly easier to built around. But it's also way more linear to the extend of being parasitic. It has pretty much no outside interaction with anything outside the block.
Yeah, it was the rejected mechanic of Kamigawa.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

I think this is a much more interesting take on it, one that I don't think I've seen before. If "Night" only lasts until EOT, it could lead to a lot of interesting designs. You could have creatures that make it Night when they etb, creatures and spells that get buffed at night, etc.
I think any version of this mechanic is going to be parasitic, but the idea of "until EOT, all of my Night stuff is turned on" is a bit more interesting to me than a long lasting effect.

"In the beginning, MTG Salvation switched to a new forum format.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
My only concern is that if it was already rejected for Kamigawa, whats changed? How are they going to justify it this time in a way that they previously couldn't?

Choose one - Equipped creature gets +4/+0; or Double Strike; or "When this creature deals combat damage to a creature, exile that creature"; or t, unattach ~ from this creature: ~ deals 5 damage to target creature." t: Equipped creature gains flying until end of turn.

The thing is that parasitic mechanics aren't intrinsically bad. It's only when there's too many of them in one environment that things get bad. But a single parasitic theme can be fine as long as the rest of its block isn't completely married to it. That was Kamigawa's real problem, too many parasitic themes and all the modular stuff was pretty lacking (well that and the bad pricing on Arcane cards).
If the night/day theme is the only parasitic mechanic in the block, things may not be bad. Of course, that assumes a lot of things about the mechanic itself. But being parasitic isn't a reason not to explore a mechanic, just a reason to explore it very carefully.

I searched all three relevant Rumor Mill threads and ask the better question: Where do they state that anything at all has changed?
