August had a simple task: New artwork for an old hero/villain. The only restriction was that the chosen card should not be modern legal. We had five interesting and cool pieces!
Poll Rules - Please read before voting
When voting, please assess how each entry fulfilled the challenge and take into account the quality of work submitted
Multi-vote: You can vote for more than one entry and this way give credit to more than one artist
You are not allowed to vote for yourself. If you vote for yourself, your vote is invalid and will be substracted from the final poll result. Votes are public and can be seen by everyone else.
Feel free to comment on your vote. People will appreciate it
Entries are displayed in the order they were submitted: first entries first, last entries last
The participant with the most votes will win. In case of a draw, the winner will be determined by rolling the dice
Please, don't try to influence the poll results in any way. Such activity would earn you a DQ and also a suspension from the contests. A relapse on such behavior would lead you to a permanent ban from the contests.
This poll will close on 21th September.
Let's take a look at the entries and vote:
Artist's Comments:"Mixed media piece. Ink and pencil linework. Coloring done in Photoshop for Andriod."
Artist's comments:"The legendary creature re-design is Rashida Scalebane from the Mirage/Visions block.
The armor design was adapted from the Paragon archetype in the Guild Wars video game series.
Thanks!"
*Snip* Contestant disqualified and suspended from the Artwork Contests until December. This user has influenced the poll results.
Artist's comments:"This is my submission for the August Art Contest! Gwendlyn Di Corci, done in colored pencil and pen & ink.
Thanks."
I voted for spirt of the night, mostly because i always love hand drawings as a base, and don't mind mixed media (digital) for the final touches. Also i really like the flow of the piece. Very diff from the original artwork, but i like it
Love me some traditional art. After closer inspection did I realize that Karona was an ink drawing. That and because Kate said so. I like how Kate's piece, as well as Albino_Rhino's, will almost completely fit well in the art box. My votes go there.
Edit: it would be cool to have to gender bend a legendary creature (male to female and vice-versa) as a contest . Let's make it happen BB.
Great pieces all of you, guys! I bet there's a lot of room to improve for everyone (since as humans, we have the possiblity of getting better and better as long as we wish and envision it ) Still, you all have given a really cool poll to us
I love Serrot's and Kate's treatment on the lines, specially Kate's. I also like pretty much Albino_Rhino's and Serrot's treatment of colors. Both pretty intriguing and entertaining to the eye in both, physical and digital techniques respectively . FDW3773's character seems a little tense or unnatural in her pose, also I don't think that background helps (it is sort of poorly integrated.) Still, I like how you relegated it by making her to pump by adding that halo of light. Pretty smart choice! Finally, Venser_FR, Serrot and Kate, all of you pushed the envelope in the pool regarding details and creativity and I dig specially how Kate and Venser_FR imbued their characters with uniqueness and charisma. I would like to add that I would have liked to see your fairy colored, Venser_FR.
Since voting for everyone, or almost everyone wouldn't have any sense, my votes goes for Kate, Serrot and Albino_Rhino.
Thanks for such a great poll to all of you, and I truly hope to have your presence in September's edition. Adunakhor and me felt both a little sad after seeing the attendance getting low and low during the last months at the contests in general, and this has been a pretty nice month I must say. Great to see old regulars and new talents merging in a new breath here
Again, thanks!

EDIT: @Serrot
It would be a neat task and we will try to find the right momnent for it if possible (at the moment, we decided that revisiting the most basic themes would be more healty for the competitions.)
Important announcement: Due to an illegal activity at the polls, Albino_Rhino as been disqualified from this competition, and also has got a temporal suspension from the Artwork Contests. Albino_Rhino will be restricted to access the artwork contests during the following three months (from September to Novemeber, being able to take part of the contest back in December 2013.)
Albino_Rhino has broke the implicit rule of not making any influence on the poll results. Ten votes were added to his score at the poll, and such votes were made by accounts created for such purpose.
Please, ignore Albino_Rhino's entry in this poll. Entry removed from the image pool.
Also, a clarification of such implicit rule will be added to the contest rules from so on, making it an explicit rule from now. Users influencing the results at our contest polls will be subject to disqualification and suspension from the contests as well.
Man i had just mentioned the contest to my friends. I didnt know this would happen! Thanks for discouraging me... And I thought this was gonna be a fun way to share my love of fantasy and magic related art. I had even already finished my submission for next month's contest. Well, no wonder you guys don't often get many submissions. Too bad though, I really thought this was gonna be a great place.

To keep it as a great place, we should ensure that nobody will mess up with it. It could be possible to have a couple of friends who want to vote for you and help you at a given contest without your consent/awareness, but ten of them? The same day? Being all those accounts at a zero post count? Perhaps it was in fact a misfortune that escaped from your hands. Still, the chances of such thing are so low that we should apply our common sense and take an action. If we don't care about an user getting a big amount of votes, enough to overtake the current poll's leader, where's the seriousness on the business? How would have you felt if, while leading the poll, another user suddenly gets 10 (ten!) votes made by ghost accounts and puts you in an unfair second place? This happens to be a contest made by the forum users, for the forum users, and not for outsiders that have nothing to do with this and don't want to. There's a reason of why votes could be made just by logged-in users and not by guests.
If you really want to be part of this, we will see you in December. In the meanwhile, make sure that those ten friends of yours will not screw your efforts up by then.
Kate & Serrot's submissions were both very strong so they both got my vote. I would love to see the background for Serrot's piece a little more developed. Kate's line work was excellent. Hopefully both of you will continue entering future contests.
@Albino_Rhino you're welcome to post your MTG related artwork in the main Artwork forums until December. Consider them warms ups until you're allowed to enter these contests again. Your piece was good but there's always room for improvement and I'm sure the regular visitors of the Artwork forums would be happy to offer constructive criticism to help you improve.
In case he'll continue to peruse and see these messages, @Albino_Rhino: I'd take the advice of Zombie Shakes. This is a great place. Ask any of the artists that receive constructive criticism here. He, Blackbull, and so many others are the reason this place is so great. I don't remember your piece, so I can't really say much about it, but as an artist myself, I highly encourage you to continue seeking criticism and improving. This is a great place to do that.
Congrats to Kate for winning this poll. Expect your trophy to be delivered soon. Also, I would like to thank everyone who made this round so exciting and encourage you to take part of September's round, wich still having a few days for you to send your entries in.
Simple and fun!

I like the re-do of Karona with the Morphling feel.
Is it traditional/not digital? If it is I like it more, but from the look of it i figured it was digital all the way.
