Artistic Journey Continues!
Third stop: Manga/Comic Style!
In February, we challenged you to alter a card in any recognizable style you want. This month, we're back being a little more restrictive and challenging you to modify a card in any way you like, except that it should be in any of the following two well known styles: Manga and/or Comic. You're subject to just respect the style choice. For the rest of the challenge, it is up to your interpretaton (you may represent your own original characters, or recreate famous characters from TV or magazines, or even just depict an enviroment/scenario in any of those styles without any character at all on it.)
Your challenge:
Take any card and alter it in any physical way (painted alters, 3D, etc.), following any of the two proposed styles (manga and comic), or even the two of them in simultaneous. Please follow this guideline:
- The art style you apply must be Manga or Comic, or a mix of both of them - which one you select is your choice.
- When submitting your entry, make clear which art style was applied and which characteristics make your piece belong to that style
- Ideally, you include the link to another painting that inspired you to select this art style, but this is not a must-do (except your work is a modification of that original image that inspired you.)
Your reward:
The contest winner determined by poll will be rewarded with a digital trophy above his avatar and announced on mtgsalvation home.
More information, rules and restrictions - please read carefully!
General rules
The work you submit must be something you created for this contest and nothing you pulled from your portfolio.
If you take someone else's artwork as reference, please provide the source.
Keep in mind your entry should be work safe, i.e. no naked boobies or other stuff of that kind
Silent submission: Do not post your work here. Instead send it by pm to both adunakhor and Blackbull. All entries will be revealed when the polls are up.
When submitting your entry, please make sure your pic/scan has a width of 300 pixel. If you can`t do it, no problem, but it would help a lot to make entries more comparable.
Deadline for this contest is 30 March
Contest specific rules
Proxies ARE allowed form this round
Please, remember to give proper credit to other artists in case you're working from other people's visual material.
I promise you that I will participate and you make it Anime themed?
Thank you for including non-Japanese options
I will get you mine as soon as possible!
I'll take your word.
Indeed, I wanted the round to be as wider as possible (restricting it to just japanese style wouldn't have been liked by a big portion of the alter community I guess. Let's see what the community comes up with!
umm hi. earlier i tried sending my entry to the mods in charge, but my messages shows no sent mail and now i can't find the send message button. can i just post a link in spoilers?

Just to be clear... you mentioned TV so I assume cartoons are fair game. Yeah?
I hope so since my kid chose the subject matter this month from his favorite show. Hint: It's cute because he's six, but if he were 16 I would worry that he was a total pot head.

Well, to be honest, the intention of the task was to have just manga or comic entries (or entries with both styles on them.) Doing mention of TV characters was just meant as an example of what you would be able to do within the two specific proposed styles (like painting a Dragon Ball character or an X-Men character on your card.)
Anyway, since the main spirit of the contest was meant to stretch the possibilities to just caricature like representations, my word is that a cartoon character would be ok (specially because you have comics of almost every single popular cartoon series so, if the characters you depict were printed onto paper anytime before, they count as comic characters.)

EDIT:
Actually, regarding artistic styles: Manga(static)=Anime(motion) *** comic(static)=cartoon(motion)
