Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

Well, yeah, some themes can get quite abstract. I guess they're open for interpretation/imagination.
Last week I was gonna go with some manlands art but IRL got in the way.
The more abstract themes typically are meant to give some more leeway for individual interpretation and thus give a wider spread of entries. The problem obviously is that it can backfire.
GR, using an example that I think you can appreciate: consider the rounds of the CDCC where the card was especially difficult. Sometimes this would kill the round, while other times this would give some of the most interesting and different submissions. The problem is figuring out which the outcome will be.
We're still trying to get a hang of where the line is for when a difficult prompt strikes a creative chord verses feels too imposing, but we'll try to stay to a bit safer territory for the next couple rounds.
I'd also like to mention that we'd love any input on which rounds you felt were especially good or that you didn't like and why. Whatever we can do to make these challenges better for you guys is what we want to do.

I see your point quite well ER. My suggestion would be to alter them more. One week take something very much MTG related, then the other go a more abstract/not necessarily MTG route.
That way all kinds of artists can find grounds to thrive. If its too long of a stretch with one extreme then some artists just give up on it for a while.
Also last week Batman got in the way...for me at least.
I don't know if I can speak for everyone, but I would personally like to see a random single card challenge...make a sig out of some card nobody has head of

Blut and I have talked a little. I think we have a good prompt lined up for this week, and I have some ideas flitting around my mind for the one after it. We'll be making sure to try out the ideas suggested

We've had some low turnouts the past couple weeks. Let's try to turn this around.
This week's challenge is to create a sig representing new beginnings. Please use only MTG art for this challenge.
Submissions cannot be larger than 600x100 or 450x150. They can be no smaller than 300x50 or 225x75.
Please remember to cite your sources.
This round will close Monday July 30th.
P.S.
Sorry for the delay on getting this round up. Time escaped me.

Second this. I didn't even know what the theme for last week was.

Giant Shark and go...
I do like it when people do go a bit out of the box but still keep it on theme. It can be rough to do but kudos when its pulled off well.
