So I was thinking about lands, and i thought some were more appealing than others, and I realized that there has been about a billion magic sets released, so I thought I might try to find some nice ones since you can use any of them that you want...
Since i haven't played magic that long, and haven't got to see any of the older sets, I thought maybe some of you could help me find some lands, based on what i've described below, I've done my best to try to paint a picture so to speak of what would be a good fit for me.
I'd like to welcome others to find lands here too if they are intersted in the same type of thing.
Forests with really nice looking big green leafy trees, or looking into an open green field are best, not too close to civilization however, i think that the forest is all about nature, so i'd want to focus on that more than anything else. A place where a vast amount of wildlife grows rampant and the lands belong to the animals.
Mountains i personally think should have large feature rocks, or lava and cracks running through the rocks with pebbles and stones scattered about, or with a large valley below it, caverns and such, you get the idea, i like the idea of volcano mountains too quite a bit. They should feel like the land of giants and bustling cities where weapons and armors are crafted daily by the local smiths hammers clanging away.
Swamps, I think should be wet, dank and feel like they have a deathly sickly smell, as though something evil has corrupted the land all around, and the trees and lakes and pathways to civilizations should be decayed and rotten, bridges over foul bridges leading to decrepit temples and buildings with smog hanging in the air.
Go to Google, type in 'mtg gatherer' and click the first link. It should say "Gatherer - Magic: The Gathering." This is WotC's official search engine for Magic cards. Type in the name of the basic land you want and click on the search button. On the right hand side, you'll see several hundred expansion symbols. Click on any one of those symbols. Each symbol contains a different art for that specific basic land (a lot of the core sets had reprints). I think this is a fun way to seek out the lands you want and get a visual history of MtG!
As for my personal picks, for Mountains, check out Shards of Alara and the the Khans of Tarkir block; for Forests, I recommend the ones from M11 and Avacyn Restored; and finally for Swamps, I'd take a look at Innistrad and Time Spiral.
Hope this helps!
