I made two more alters last night, Treasured Find and Seething Song. These were definitely more challenging than previous cards. Not totally happy with either of them.
Looking at Treasured Find now, I should really bring at least one lock of hair over the card box.
Experimented with the title box of the Seething Song, but probably won't do that again, hah.
Definitely enjoying this new aspect of the hobby. Despite not having any comments on this thread so far, I've done another alter! A 4th Edition Animate Dead.
Are these for personal use or are you selling/trading them? Because I love that Treasured Find.
Cheers! I am glad you like it.
Well, right now I am just experimenting with alters, since I am still quite new to it. The Artwork section isn't for selling typically. Best leave that to PMs.
You seem to have "the touch" in your hand (it looks like you had previous experience with brushes, did you?), and your improvement is being clear alter by alter. Keep these comming and a late welcome to our community! (Are you planning on giving a try to custom art? It would be interesting to see what style comes out from your own )

Thanks!
I've been painting Warhammer (and other) miniatures for a number of years. Don't do too much painting on flat surfaces (apart from some things in photoshop), so adapting to this medium has been an interesting process. I am glad you think I am improving! I happen to agree.
More to come no doubt, I've been having fun so far. Not sure on custom art just yet. I'd have to have a really cool idea to wan to attempt it.
Fantastic color matching! How do you get them so accurate?
Thanks! The colour mixing and blending has been pretty challenging, I use Army Painter paints, so I try to start with the colour closest to what I need, then add in black white or other primary colours. It's really a guessing game.
I don't have any real training as a painter, just self taught with a basic understanding of colour. I've been getting better at mixing the more alters I make! It's been pretty fun.
New alter, Revised Island. Really challenging, not completely happy with the top edge of the card, might paint over it in a brighter colour. The picture isn't great either, lots of reflection on the top bar.
Just as Bull said you definitely have the touch, your color matching and painting precision is very strong, Keep them coming and Im sure quickly you will find yourself bombarded by commisions

I appreciate you saying so! I'm definitely going to try and keep up my productivity and improve as I go. Cheers!
I am not a painter at all, just wanted to let you know I really like the treasured find and the seething song! What you did to the card text box looks pretty cool! Keep at it for sure!
By the way; just a thought. Practice with cards that are commonly used in EDH, so that after all the practice you could trade/sell your practice cards

I definitely want to step up the pace in production. Also, the owner of my LGS said he could probably put some in the display case as a consignment, and even supply me with cards to paint. So I may take him up on that. I am going to alter a bunch of the new commanders from the preconstructed commander decks and see if those sell well.
EDIT:
Finished another alter tonight, Diabolic Tutor. After attempting this couple times, this is my first successful foil alter.
Roon is a full art alter using the oversized foil card that comes with the commander box. To my knowledge, no one else has tried this yet, but I think it turned out pretty well. I'll probably try it with a few more commanders.
Made another one last night, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius. This took longer than my usual 3 hours and was pretty challenging. reasonably happy with it, but it has room for improvement.

Excited to try my hand on some more expensive cards and maybe a Commander!
