I do not take commissions for card alterations. Do not message me about commissions.
My current process involves erasing the ink from the card. To do this I have to tape the card down to a smooth table, and I also use tape to cover areas I don't want erased, then I draw the image in. I use Scotch tape and Staedtler Mars Plastic erasers. I typically use ball point pens and markers for the iage, the occasional pencil for extra shading, and Gelly Roll pens for lighter highlights. Sometimes I spray the card with a matte finish.
Jeez, Gals. How many more of those do you have? How are you picking the shots for them? By watching the movies or just randomly picking places along the video slider?

It's a full land base for an EDH deck, so I think it's looking like:
I thought I only had one more basic Plains to do, but it looks like 2. Then, we start with non basics. Strip Mine will be a Sarlacc Pit shot, High Market might be Mos Eisley. But beyond that I haven't come up with anything that seems to fit perfectly.
The images are chosen from watching the movies and grabbing screen shots, online image searches, and some photoshopping. At this point I am digging pretty deep for sources since there are only so many places in Star Wars that feel like Plains.

Thespian's Stage could be that weird bubble opera thing where Anakin meets Palpatine in the third movie.
I've decided I don't like painting white. It doesn't cover well.

Galspanic, I have a similar problem. I'm altering my Modern Affinity into droids and can't figure out what they all should be.
I guess I'll have plenty of time to figure it out though. Some of these things take a while to paint.

Ashiok was done on commission. Gideon was painted as a weird, crazy, Art Nouveau-ish experiment. Some days I like how it turned out, some days I don't.
@Ondal
I don't post here very often, but I take a look into this thread now and then and looked through your Deviant Art gallerie. I just want to say that Chandra + Mountain Combo is really the best piece of art I have seen from you and just really awesome art in general.
And here also a few things I made and haven't posted yet. Sadly the photos aren't always perfect, so there's some shine in some of them from sleeves or whatever.
About Blizzard and Mtg, I was thinking the other day what if I altered mtg cards with artwork from Hearthstone? Most cards from there have a card in Mtg that does something similar, it seems like a lot of work though and I'm not sure if anyone would recongnize it's from Hearthsone...
Recently Finished Delver of Secrets and a Checklist card to go with it. i put a Tropical Island in the background for two of the arts, but I couldn't find myself drawing it on the third.

It's been a while, but I'm glad to see the thread still alive and kicking, some of the old talent still around and doing excellent work.
Ondal: That SoFaF is absolutely gorgeous.
Galspanic: I'm jealous of your Star Wars plains. They have a wonderful looseness to them, but perfectly capture light and mood.
Madmanny: Really digging the originality of your work. Not too many attempt what you're doing.
djpattiecake: Well done. Most of the alters that borrow bigup's techniques are clumsy and poorly cut; these are neither. Many of the images line up in a clever way as well.
Or Winding Canyons could be Beggar's Canyon — of course referenced by Luke in ANH, but also part of the Boonta Eve Classic we seen in Phantom Menace.
(This chick reminds me of a Hunter I know on Destiny...)
EDIT: I may as well chip in with some more ideas after seeing you post in the last page, Galspanic. And to reiterate what the folks are saying, I'm mad jealous about those Plains. I think Bristol hit their appeal right on the head.
Buried Ruin - Dagobah with a half-submerged X-wing in the swamp? Emeria, the Sky Ruin - Yeah, probably Bespin High Market - Gotta be Mos Eisley Karoo - Drawing nothing here, past the Naboo forest because Qui-Gon and Obi see those deer-like creatures running from the droid tank. Meh Kor Haven - Yoda's house on Dagobah Mistveil Plains - Uhh? May have to revisit one of your Plains arts. Mystifying Maze - "You're not actually going IN to an asteroid field?!" Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx - Maybe Courascant and the statue of Palpatine that was added and toppled at the end of Jedi Strip Mine - Sarlaac for sure Temple of the False God - Jabba's Palace! The temple in the art already nicely matches that silhouette of Jabba's Palace in those sunset horizon shots, plus the name matches perfectly for Jabba! Tower of the Magistrate - Recon tower with Rebel soldier on Yavin 4? Not the best depiction of a tower, but it's a stretch on "magistrate" Winding Canyons - Beggar's Canyon Thespian's Stage - I'd say if not the Cantina band, Jabba's dancers on top of the pit -- seems to fit the audience feel of a stage more than the Cantina... no one's watching poor Figrin D'an up there doing his thing with the Kloo horn, but all eyes are on those dancers
I hope at least one of these was inspiring in some way, though I know you've already put a bunch of thought in on them.
