Question for the custom playmat groups, I'm thinking of purchasing a blank sketch playmat to do, question is, what kind of Pens/markers do you guys use? I had a very horrible experience using what I've got, and want a more professional-looking mat, how do I avoid ink-strokes from coming up?
Also, is there any way to make the playmat washer safe so it doesn't take my work off?
Can anyone tell me the best markers and line-pens to use on playmats?

I tried contacting him on facebook about it before, no response...
What about here by pm? He's a regular poster. I would be glad to throw you a hint, but I haven't touched a playmat before. Perhaps I've readed somewhere (not really sure) that "micron pens" or "permasomething pens" are the thing they use. Even the Sakura ones could be useful here. Also, I belive that a regular sealant (as the ones used with altered cards) would be enough (it would be great to have a mat alterer making a confirmation of this). In case of using a regular sealant, you would probably need to roll the playmat with a wider radius for transprotation, perhaps inside of one of those plastic tubes used to carry blueprints). Also, it would probably be better to seal with a fine layer instead of a tick one.
Take all the aforementioned with a grain of salt, since I'm not talkig from experience.
I've asked this question in the tips for altering cards thread, but haven't gotten a response.
How would you go about "bleaching" a card? Does this just mean sun bleaching? I'm interested in doing non-paint, alters and have seen some old bleached cards that look pretty neat.

What do you mean, fading the color on a card, or blanking part of it?

Yeah, it usually means sun bleaching. There are discussions that have popped up here and there, like this thread. You can probably find some descriptions of techniques somewhere; I've heard of people taping cards to a sheet of paper then taping the paper to a window so the card will be exposed to the sun. Haven't done it, so I don't know how well that works.
Hey guys, I have a quick inquiry, I've searched the forum but haven't found much information on this.
I have some Revised Ed. Swords to Plowshares that are sticking like a sore thumb on my Legacy mono W deck and would like to make them Black bordered, I know there's the Sharpie route but that leaves them with an obvious alteration.
What kind of paint should I use to colour the borders, I have seen some mentioning of acrylic but there are a few varieties of black like "charcoal" out there, so I couldn't say which to choose, also, do I need to mix in a bit of another color to balance the black out?
I would also like to know if there's a specific technique to apply the paint and if I should add a matte finish spray after I'm done. Also what type of paintbrush would work best only to work on borders?
I'm a bit confused here, but if someone could guide me I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance

Yupp, I hate white border as well. Paint will be more noticeable than sharpies. I use a wide head sharpie(as big as the border) and tape. I tape at the border of one edge, sharpie, then repeat for each edge. Is very clean. People think my lord of atlantis are time spiral all the time and when I play merfolk.
Question, I recently bought some altered cards on ebay, and love them. I contacted the seller in regards to the artist and he couldn't remember. If I am allowed to post an ebay link let me know.
It is 4 mistys, full art altered with metallic pens I am assuming. He got them at an SCG event and I believe the artist sig is A0 or A9. I can see the A but can't wuite make out the other character.
I am about to start doing my own custom playmats for a few friends of mine. I have always been confident about my art and when it comes to pen to paper I dont hesitate. Im kind of nervous about doing the work on playmats as everywhere I have read you cannot erase pencil from the mats, My question is can anyone confirm this or if you know of a way to erase would you please let me know?
Hi guys, does anyone know where I can have custom sleeves made?
I have tried Kickstarter but I havent heard back from anyone, and I can't tell if the project is even alive anymore lol I even tried emailing the Creators facebook, but i haven't received any message back for weeks now.
Is custom card sleeves just dead for right now?
P.S- Ultra Pro needs like... 25000 sleeves made in order to do it and I assume other big name dealers are the same lol

A friend of mine did a playmat for me. She used sharpie and told me mats are difficult because you can't mess up.

I've been looking for years. because of the way sleeves are manufactured, printing plates are used. It isnt practical to print only a hundred which is why you need to order thousands. Maybe in a few years. Since the demand is so high, it should happen eventually.

On the sleeve front, there was a kickstarter recently for that product, but he's been really busy getting things ready, and he's in the stage where he can begin producing quality custom sleeves, except that he's only one man and needs time to do these things. The demand for his product was so high, he's still trying to catch up on fulfilling his kickstarter rewards, etc.

Yes I agree about the sharpie part, most people lay things out with pencil before the final product is laid out, my concern is that if I cannot clean up the pencil will it show through the marker on the playmats as sometimes it shows through the ink on paper.
Hello everyone. I'm having some difficulty finding a full picture of a piece, or information about the prints or originals.
I'm looking for the artwork of Belbe and Ertai done by (I believe) Mark Zug. The only picture I can find of both characters together is on the back cover of the Nemesis novel. Then there is a cropped image of the original which can be found on the Belbe wiki page with no source links.
I browsed Mark Zug's website and didn't find anything about the print. I sent him a message via his website to no response.
At the very least, I must find a good resolution image for a wallpaper, but I want a print of this if not the original.
Any information here would be crucial and appreciated.
Thank you.
I emailed Mark Zug and am still waiting on a response. Any help finding this would still be appreciated.
I think what kiljo said about editing a Deeptread Merrow onto the TNN was correct. My question is how did he do this, given that the print for a foil card is printed onto a foil layer?
I think what kiljo said about editing a Deeptread Merrow onto the TNN was correct. My question is how did he do this, given that the print for a foil card is printed onto a foil layer?
He carefully removed the foil from a foil-version of the card and then carefully attached it to a non-foil version in an expert level manner. There are small hints that you can see though in the upper right next to the mana cost.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand? I am looking to get a custom playmat made for my friend of his favorite card: Abu Ja'far. But I need something with a better resolution then what i can dig up so far. That being funny enough via this sites wiki http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/images/1/1d/Abu.jpg
I have been checking a few different sites that i could find with card art but this is not really something i have much practice in and was wondering if you guys had any better sources for tracking this stuff down?

Fading the color on part of or all of the card. Here's an example from a post talking about albino vs. bleached.
This probably wouldn't work for all cards, but I like the idea and it looks spectacular here, it's more subdued but at the same time relying more on contrast makes it pop, thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know the tournament legality of the lithograph atlers? Where they erase the art and everything else not required and print directly onto the card.
I am not sure if there are tournament legal or not.
Does anyone know how to make the number "10" or higher in the Magic Symbols 2008 font? I'm talking about the 10 that is used to indicate casting cost, like on any of the Legendary Eldrazi.
Can anyone tell me the best markers and line-pens to use on playmats?
