OK so, to get the update they all came back and look totally awesome! I would definately go with framing with the card. These are the ones I currently own:
Caves of Koilos
Viashino Sandstalker
Noggle Bridgebreaker
Plains (onslaught)
Forest (onslaught)
Madblind Mountain
Phyrexian Furnace
2 from Bloodwars (old card game I was into)
On its way:
Watery Grave
sweet, can we see? did you put the card on the side? or on the bottom or top? and did you center it or did you put two?
We have been busy updating the site with standard templates for Artists and Cards. Next is Sets and then we are left to fill the remaining holes.
We have a new domain for the site www.originalmagicart.com so make sure to stop by and take a look at the changes.
I will be at Gen Con to promote the site and get some more editors on board as well as gathering goodies for giveaways to contributors to the site.
Stay tuned! Exciting things incoming!
I was actually thinking about doing something like this. I was keeping track of pieces that were being sold on ebay over the last couple of years. I also frequently contact artists about available pieces, and have several lists of pieces from various magic artists of available pieces. It might be easier just to do (at least just for now) what pieces are available at what price. I am sure a lot of artists would be more than willing to provide price lists for pieces that are available, because it would help them sell more art.
I would be more than willing to help out with this project.
I own the OA for Soul Spike, Hunting Drake (which is for trade), and Skybreen as well as a lot of original sketches.
Also, I just got in the mail recently the MTGO art for Tundra. I will post pictures on here later. I definitely want to see more pictures of people's OA.
I don't think it should have been matted in blue. A grey or silver matte would have been more appropriate, considering it's a painting for an artifact.
I just went to a framer and they told me that an oil on wood painting should be open. I didn't feel comfortable with that. I have little kids so they used spacers, to avoid molding. Did I err?

Yeah- it would be a Taupe/Purple-not Blue.. similiar to what was used in the art... How about posting some pictures of your artwork? I'd assume you've framed them similiar to a card?
The sketches for Thorn of Amethyst are really nice. Planning to frame them together, or in separate frames?
I have to agree, the Sands of Delirium is framed very nicely. I saw the original submission sketch for it up that website. Manage to snag it?
I am thinking I will frame Thorn with the sketches... I've never done it before, but I think it will look nice.
Thanks for the kind words regarding the framing. I was going to snag the sketch, but it was only a concept and not the original he used to base the final art (that one was digital.) So I passed on it.
If anyone wants to trade for Sands, PM with what you've got.. like I says.. the Mrs hates it and it's going to have to go soon.
I think it would be really cool to have the sketches with the final product. The problem is going to be how to compose the piece. Do you stack them vertically, or try to mat them side-by-side? How much is that going to be affected the wall space you have left? That's the part that I struggle with the most when I'm having stuff framed. I don't have a good eye for composition.
This begs the question, when framing originals, do you mat it to look it would on the card, or do you mat it to complement the piece? I tend to like the latter, but there are nice examples of the former. What's everyone's opinion?
It's a real shame your wife doesn't like the Sands piece. It looks nice the way you have it done. If I had some spare cash, I would help you with it, but alas, priorities.
I think I'm slowly changing my point of view. I used to have the cards on the side of the art and in one particular case did it more like a baseball card type format with the art as like a signed picture and the cards on the bottom, but now i"m going more to just having the art framed by itself as is.
^ agree King-never liked the look of the art with the card-IMO when its framed like that..people who see it for the first time will have their attention gravitate to the card to see what it is-thats not what i want at all-i want 100% of the focus to be on the piece of art-just my perspective..but since i only have like 10% of my stuff framed anyway, lol, i dont know if i have any place to talk!
Yeah I think that is more for show then anything else. He also set it that high I believe to auto decline any offer less than 55k or something or other. The problem is how many original art collectors do you think there are? 50. 100. 1000. Obviously it's a small percentage of magic players. How many of them have the resources to throw down 100 k on a 5x8" piece or however small it is vrs Uhm. Let's say a traditional art piece for 100k. Ya know?
i dont have an ebay account but i was wondering..the guy with the mox art..does he have to pay everytime he lists it..because it seems like a huge waste of money. he must have had that mox up for sale for what like going on at least 2-3 years by now and must have posted it 100x. he is never going to get anywhere near that price and he is just wasting his time. u nless he is just a show off or a braggart and then that is even worse. i have no patience for people like that

My understanding is that you can get a number of free listings a month from eBay. If you only list using your free listings, you can use the auction as an advertising/value setting piece. I think that this is what goodlytreasures is doing in this case. They can be "that guy that listed the Mox Pearl art for $150,000" and have it be a PR thing to drum up business for their other sales. If they happen to actually sell the piece at that price, well, then great for them. Happy unintended side effect.
^ agree 100% manaman-i think that is just what they are doing-sad that in a sense they are holding that peice hostage from art fans that would love to buy it and add it to their collection as nobody who is sane..in this economy would ever pay a price even approaching what they are asking-so it will sit int he hands of a dealer rahter then a fan or collector.....DISLIKE

That is a pretty serious pickup. Congratulations! I'm sure that had to cost a pretty penny!
