Pwner1, as much as I enjoy your artwork, you used my League Map as a reference without properly crediting us.
I've sent you messages but you haven't replied in a couple of weeks.
You took my layout (and I even used a Warhammer Empire map), my Territory Names (Sanctum - I named that, Kessig Wolf Run - On my map for Gameplay otherwise why would it be there?) and where the provinces are in relation to each other. Your map also makes the same fluff errors as mine (Somberwald is in Stensia, Selhoff is the southernmost town of Nephalia, etc.) , save for the Helvault which was your own artistic decision.
Not cool man.
While he didn't credit you properly, in post 6 he did mention that he used another innistrad map as a reference (which can only be yours since its the only map out there beside this one now). I can understand you being faintly upset because of that but you have no claim to anything else you have mentioned and the fact you just mentioned you used a warhammer empire map made me go to your blog to see if you credited anyone for using any of their stuff as a reference to make your map and i didn't find any.
I made my map for personal use (for my League) and put it on my blog. He posted his on public forums and called it his Custom Innistrad Map. I want him to credit our work. We spent hours and hours building a map that would fit our gameplay mechanics and campaign ideas. We built decks, simulated strategies for each Province and balanced their inherent advantages. We put a lot of time into the map to make it suit our purposes. It's not cool to see your hard work posted up as someone else's.
Yeah, I did use a Warhammer Empire map, but I decided on where everything was using the official fluff from Wizards. A couple of sections of the Planeswalker's Guide to Innistrad weren't even released when I made the map. I filled in the holes myself.
So yes, I am offended that he used my map without crediting me. I'm flattered that pwner1 found the map inspirational, but I'm angry that he took nearly everything and called it his own. And then... he's copyrighting it? Like... what? I'm not just faintly offended. I didn't do this for him, I did this work for my League and my players.
It's plagiarism if he doesn't give proper credit. There's a pretty simple solution to this.
I don't even quite know what to say to any of that.
I used your idea for inspiration and I clearly did not plagiarize anything at all. My work has no labels or location names. I added those on paint to give people an idea and even clearly said that I used another source as inspiration (which other people have found and you have linked). What I'm copyrighting is my landscape. I'm sorry for not being more clear - this is just a simple project I work on in my free time and I don't know a lot about copyrighting. Images created by an artist are automatically copyrighted upon creation so I didn't even need to go through any copyright process. I would not even attempt to copyright the image with location names as they likely belong to Wizards. I have put over 50 hours of legitimate work into drawing what I feel to be a cool picture as well as about 150$ once all is said and done. I have made pen and paper rpg maps and all that and what you're claiming I stole is not an accurate reflection of what really happened. I'll just leave it at that. I apologize that you feel that I've taken something from you. That was not my intention. I'll edit my original post to reflect where I drew inspiration from for this project. As for not getting back to you on PM - I really did not know what you wanted from any of this.
I have a half day at work tomorrow so I'll be driving into the city to get this thing scanned so I can finally put up a clear final image. Sorry about the delay (work and life have been extremely busy).
Turn around time on the scanning is 3 days :(.. thought it would be done today. So hopefully by Monday I'll have the final image up here. Sorry again about the delays.
On the plus side, though, I feel good about finishing it and am ready to start working on my next one which will be Ravnica.
Hope this doesn't upset my wife too much.. she's been on me about refinishing a cabinet lol.

Thank you again for all the support everybody. I have submitted it to Wizards but they don't appear interested in it currently.. just have the automated reply so far.
Please let me know if you want to use it for anything - you can either email me or PM me.
with a closer inspection i noticed it that some names are barely eligible at the resolution and the font you used, i would recommend saving the image at a slightly higher resolution. Other than that its great!!!

I would recommend using a different font entirely. The reasons why Papyrus is a terrible font have been discussed ad nauseam, but they're all true.
That's very cool! Did you base this on some official description or is this entirely your creation? Either way it's really neat to see where all of the places referenced on the cards are located. And I like your coloring a lot.
Hey thanks! I was inspired by card descriptions/lore, the lore on wizards' site, and a league map from skyy as well as the warhammer empire map.
If anybody is interested in a print of the map I had 20x30" prints made that are incredible quality - they are indistinguishable from the original. You can PM me if interested. This is without the location names.
Here is the original mounted over our newborn's crib
Well it only took 8 months from start to finish but here's the final product:
If you're interested in a playmat, let me know. I'll see if inkedplaymats.com can offer them in the gallery. Going to make another version with art to the sides as well but I have had very little free time lately.
This map is awesome. I love the details on the buildings and the geographic information of the differing regions. I am also digging the inclusion of some of the dual lands. I am thinking of printing it out for use as a poster.
I also plan on using it for furthered details for a couple Innistrad stories I am working on for the story section.
