I like to pit the magic of MtG against magic from other universes, so this time we're using Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
The specific versions of the characters we're using:
Karn, Silver Golem - During the Phyrexian Invasion, just after his memories had returned and Karn gave up his vow of pacifism. Notably, this is before Karn becomes a planeswalker capable of creating entire planes of existence. Karn believes Alphonse to be a Phryexian weapon that he must destroy to save Dominaria.
Alphonse Elric - Also after regaining his memories that allowed him to use alchemy "on the fly" without drawing a circle every time. Alphonse believes Karn to be a new kind of Homunculus that he must defeat in order to save his country, Amestris.
The arena - It is as if the Rath overlay had begun, except for some reason, Dominaria overlapped with the FMA:B universe in this small area. The two are trapped here, with no one else around. Half of the area appears to be a Dominarian field with a few scattered trees. The other half is an abandoned urban area in Amestris.
What say you?

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
The problem is that Karn would hear a boy's voice, and considering he has a compassionate nature even while being able to be violent and Alphonse has shown to be rather chatty during battle.
Ignoring their own abilities for a second, my own feeling is that Karn has the ability to be destroyed using some alchemy. Karn just has the ability to touch artifacts and make them living, and mostly his brawn without magical back up.
The main question would be if Karn would find the binding mark in the armor and destroy it outright, which would have to access to a specific artifact and considering the Legacy was still holed up inside of the Weatherlight this seems implausible.
The fight would probably go on for a while, until they both started to get talkative.
Karn's not exactly stubborn, rather compassionate which would basically have him think before killing Alphonse. The same with Alphonse. Now Edward would be far more brutal and bull headed, but still diplomacy at the end along with analyzing what the world is.
This is of course presuming their form of alchemy would still work with the mana overlay during Planeshift the leylines were doing strange things, and overlapping with an additional plain would have unforeseen effects on Alphonse's alchemy.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
Correct me if I'm wrong ( it's been a while since I've read FMA), I know Al is as good as an Alchemist of the State and he can fight pretty well, but isn't he a pacifist for the most part?
Also, isn't the whole thing with Karn in the Weatherlight saga was that he was a pacifist as well? I mean, when he was imprisoned wasn't he put into a rolling cage so he would crush goblins all day against his well?
If they were to be pitted together, both would talk it out over fighting it out. They'd then realize they aren't enemies. if anything, they would find each other to be kindred souls.
Now, if for some reasons their personalities were lost and all they saw was bloodlust, then Al's martial skill and abilities in alchemy would give him the upper hand immediately. Karn would just end up a Legendary Teapot.

This guy, right here, understands what a versus topic is.
Thank you.

So, you didn't read anything I wrote. Alphonse is the one fighting, not Edward. That was the whole point, they're both essentially golems.
Also, for purposes of the thread, each believes the other is an enemy that must be destroyed.

LOL. You would be surprised at how much this seems to happen.
I'm going to propose a hypothetical. What happens?
Response: I'm going to deny your hypothetical, make up my own thing, and answer that instead.
