Hi guys, this morning, my dog, who I've had since I was 7, bit someone that ended up having to go to the emergency room. Long story short, he has to be put down on Monday and I really don't know what to do. This dog is my best friend and I have absolutely no experience dealing with loss like this and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it. Any advice here would be really appreciated. Thanks guys.
Hey, I'm sorry about the loss of your dog. That's always rough - the day my childhood dog died I was pretty miserable.
The only thing you can do is just keep yourself occupied while you grieve. Make sure you took some time cry if that's what you needed, and then keep yourself busy with school/work whatever you've got going on until you start to feel better. There are really no shortcuts through grief, it's perfectly natural to feel bad about losing a pet, and ignore anyone who gets a flippant attitude about it. You'll feel better soon enough, although if you don't and it feels like you've been depressed for too long, you may want to consider talking to someone about it.
My go-to for handling stuff like this is to just keep busy. Get extra shifts at work, bolster your workout regiment, do more jogs, go for drives, make (too many) plans with friends - even in those thirty minutes or so between things make sure you're tidying or sorting cards or posting on MTGSalvation or reading or something. Eventually a few weeks or months later it doesn't hurt as bad and you can get introspective about what's going on, but when it's still fresh it's easier to handle by staying social and active.
