So, I killed this bug...and this is what it looked like before I killed it...
What is it?
I've been killing a few other weird looking bugs lately that were smaller and looked like a combination of ants and flies (had wings, but were smaller than your average looking fly).
It's hard to say with that much blur, but it honestly looks like a very common cockroach we have down here. Nicknamed "palmetto bugs"
It's VERY blurry but the only reason I would rule that out is if the thorax were more pointed in which case you could have a large "true bug" or something like that.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Sorry about the blur - the bug was moving and my phone zoom wasn't working at the time.
It could very well be a palmetto bug; the only reason it doesn't seem definite to me is because the area near the head was noticeably lighter than the whole rest of the back.
Those flying bugs you describe could be juvenile queen ants; though I dunno if they're going to be moving about right now. Don't they normally show up in springish?

My thoughts exactly, on both insects. The winged ones could even be termites depending on how closely they resembled ants. Also, winged ants aren't necessarily juvenile queens - simply ants in the mating stage, male or female. But it could be a bad sign for your house because... they're mating. They can show up at any time, but most commonly in the summer.

Thanks people
If that picture were any blurrier, I wouldn't even know it was a bug.
I did find a dried bug on the ground that looked vaguely like that one.
