i'll describe the situation below and then further below i will explain the symptoms.
after about my junior year of high school (i'm really not actually sure when it began) i noticed that i started to pee more frequently than normal. at first i thought it was just my diet, but i changed that. after about 6 months i felt that it was just my perception. but once my senior year was over i realized that i really was peeing far more frequently than most people. Freshman year of college came about and i just never had time to deal with the problem for most of the year; but come spring i found some time but urine tests were inconclusive. unfortunately i did not live near campus so i decided to just live with it.
later in my sophomore year i went back when i found time, but they decided to retest my urine and those tests also seemed normal. being super busy i never managed to go back and discuss it with them so i decided to turn to my normal doctor for the summer. the tests there were also normal.
i know for a fact that this is abnormal urination. i find myself urinating at maximum intervals of an hour and a half (it can be longer but very rarely), and minimally as little as 20 minutes. The color of my urine is normal, either white when i've had a lot to drink, pale yellow, or normal yellow. I do not have diabetes (both doctors confirmed that and i would imagine my urine samples would not look normal for both tests if that were the case, plus, 21 years is a long time to go without that kind of diagnosis). when i drink soda (caffeinated or uncaffeinated) i notice i tend to urinate more often (usually this will be the cause of shorter intervals) and that even when drinking primarily water i will have to go at the maximal interval of ~1.5 hours.
when going to sleep it can be worse, every 5-15 minutes i may feel uncomfortable to urinate, and oftentimes it is a very small amount despite how uncomfortable it feels (although this does not seem to be the case when i am not trying to sleep). every morning when i wake up, i wake up primarily because i have to pee, and i mean bladder-busting pee necessity (i have not wetted the bed since first grade though so that's not an issue).
as far as i can tell, i feel about as thirsty as i have always been, but i think my perception might be skewed due to this having happened somewhat gradually over a long period of time.
does anybody have a suggestion? it's really hard to go to the medical center on campus because i live in an apartment on the far northwest side of campus and the center is on the far southwest side
there was a time my sophomore year of high school i had to hold my wee in for about 2 hours because the pilot felt that the entire trip from LAX to o'hare needed to have the fasten seat belt sign on and a mixture of submission and evil hostesses kept me in my seat.
i guess i'm only apprehensive about going to a doctor because nothing has happened yet even after 2 tests from the same campus location (although it's mostly because it's so hard for me to get there that makes it so difficult to get tested, my workload really doesn't give me much free time to set aside 3 hours to go there, get tested, and head back. the other problem is that it is very hard for me to make an appointment because of the workload being unpredictable (it is hard to judge how long certain projects/mps/homeworks will take until i've gotten to a roadblock).
Needing to pee more often after Soda or whatever is normal. The Caffeine (I think) is a Diuretic, making your Kidneys less permeable to reabsorbing water, hence you have more fluid needing to be passed out. This happens with everyone.
However, your urinating pattern when drinking Normal Water is still abnormal, and as above posters have said, go see a doctor. Don't just ask for a Urine test, be specific with what your problem is. As has been said, it could be a swollen prostate, something wrong with your kidneys or anything from a long list of abnormalities.
The fact that it has been going on for a while does not make it any better. No doctor should fault you for being cautious with your body (provided you don't take it to Hypochondriac levels). At the end of the day, it's better being safe than being sorry.
It can be something serious like Diabetes mellitus.
i doubt it's that serious since both doctors strongly doubted it was diabetes. i should probably mention that the school doctor put me on a medication (i guess you never know if a web MD pops up) that was normally used for old people but it didn't seem to have any effect on me.
in any case i'm not sure if i will be able to get treatment given how hard it is to get to the medical center considering it doesn't appear to be a life-threatening illness or anything. the biggest thing i'm worried about is if i misrepresent information about what is "normal" because of this condition having lasted for so long and me being unsure of when exactly it started etc.
My guess it is less a life-threatening illness (though not seeing a doctor would be silly of you) and more of a psychological thing. It sounds to me like you noticed something long ago and focused on it so much that you were feeding your own condition. It is similar to people who wet the bed because they lie there for two hours thinking about how hope they don't before they can finally fall asleep.
I mean no offense here, but assuming you get a clean bill of health, I think a therapist could be surprisingly helpful.
TBH you sound healthy, and if going to 2 doctors hasn't revealed a problem than there quite possibly isn't one. I don't want to say probably, but I personally would not be concerned.
It sounds like you just have a really weak bladder, which sucks but it HAPPENS. It may not be common, but it does just randomly happen.
My friend Oli got stabbed in the kidney when he was 12, and he can't hold water for more than an hour and a half.
I'm a career martial artist, I was training one day and my friend did a pendulum kick, I dodged one way but he ended up putting more power into the other and ended up catching me perfectly in the back, right into my kidney. The next day I was pissing every 45 minutes or so (Actually happened to be a Saturday for a SNM :D, ironic isn't it?) and after a day of that, I was fine.
So if it's not a bladder thing, it could be kidney, but it's probably weak bladder.
Assuming that
-you are not drinking (water/soda/coffee/beer) excessively...
-you're not abusing diuretics (I've heard about some women using that to lose weight)...
I would guess:
-Diabetes melliutus - I know you said you're sure you don't have it, but have your doctors tested you for it? I'm saying this because having to pee at night is a classic sign of DM.
-Diabetes Insipidus - this is where your kidneys are unable to reabsorb water back into your body, causing dehydration
-Lithium - drug used for mania/bipolar; side effect = causes diabetes insipidus
-Pregnancy - if you're female
These are just guesses based on your descriptions. I'm not qualified to give professional medical advice. So you should see your doctor asap.
Unfortunately, there are many ****ty doctors in the world. If no one sent you to a urologist and took several blood tests, then you need to go to a different one.

I'd get a prostate check.
AFTER you talk to a doc first. But that's my guess.
At your age, hopefully nothing serious..good luck to you sir.

Go to a doctor. Now. This could literally be life-threatening.
