I've ripped (that I own, for personal use) a series of TV episodes on 5 seperate DVD's (3 episodes each) using both DVD Decripter and/or DVD Shrink.
I've been using Handbrake to turn these VOB files into MP4, but Handbrake only seems to recognise the first episode on each disk. I know I have all the content because I can create an ISO file and watch the DVD from my hard drive (using the menus et) but what I would like to do is to convert these files into a format I could take with me on a portable player and stream to my Xbox.
Is there a better program for what I'm trying to do than Handbreak, or do I need to compile each episode indivdually by selecting its peices?
Thanks.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I Use Ojosoft For .VOB And .TS Files... Although AVS Will Do Fine... they Are All Buy Software, But Magic DVD Ripper Will Rip A Movie In A Little Less Time Than The Movie Is.... it Copied Avatar the Movie Into A 1.3 GB AVI File In About 1:30 Hours...
I use DVD Shrink to rip and Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK) to convert. It's very easy to use and free (though donations are accepted). It also accepts batches of tasks, so you can convert several files/episodes overnight if you want. http://www.autogk.me.uk/
But I'd like to ask what exactly are you trying to do with your episodes? It sounds like you want to create one long movie comprised of all episodes from each disk. If that is the case, you can create separate files at first and then use a video joiner to stick them together.
Legal disclaimer: You're not allowed to break encryption, even on DVDs you own. Not all DVDs are encrypted, however. So copying and converting those is fine.
I don't want them as one long episode. I would like the individual episodes off the disk. The problem I've been having is my converter software only sees the first episode.
I think the reason for that is this particular series is set up with the credits as thier own file or something so They link it E1-Credits-E1End, E2-Credits-E2End. Handbreak only sees the first set.
I'm open to using other programs, but there are so many of them out there, and that's why I'm here.
One of the things we've been trying to do is set up "highlight" reals for my dad who is constantly fast forwarding through the movie to just watch the parts he likes.
If I had everything digital, I could clip the parts he likes and string them togeather or let him cycle through them.
Regarding legality: Thanks for the heads up. I don't get any kind of warning with these disks, so I assume it isn't encrypted. You weren't supposed to record mix tapes off the radio either, but everyone did it. Maybe if these movie companies want to sell me $150 of episodes they should put the AVI/MP4 files on the disk too, or at least give me a free code to download it from somewhere. (Some audio producers do this). I paid for them and I'm not paying another $150 to download shows I already bought in a different format. Paying for content not format when I can buy a $30 program and DIY.

I guess I still don't understand what you're saying when you describe it as "E1-Credits-E1End". What comes after the credits? I don't know what E1End means. And what exactly is Handbreak not seeing there? Does it get the whole episode but not the credits?
As for my process, what I do is open DVD Shrink, select "Re-author," and double click the DVD drive.
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Output Files. UNcheck "Split VOB files into 1GB chunks. (recommended)." This will cause each episode to be stored in its own VOB, rather than being split up.
On the right hand side of this page, there are 3 sections named "Menus," "Main Movie," and "Extras." Each episodes will have its own title (usually labeled "Title 1," "Title 2," etc.) in the "Main Movie." section. Double click each episode that you want to copy.
Once you've selected all the episodes, click "Backup!" at the top and tell DVD Shrink where to store the resulting files.
After that is done. Open AutoGK.
1. Select your input file, which should be one of the VOBs you just copied. The output file will be automatically named, but you can change it if you want.
2. Select your target size or quality (I usually just set mine to 100%).
3. Click "Add Job." Repeat steps 1 -3 for each episode.
4. Click "Start" and your video will be created. It takes a long time, so be prepared to wait or set it to work overnight.
Hope that helps. By the way, the legal disclaimer was more for the mods. These kinds of threads tend to get closed, but I wanted to make it clear that backing up DVDs is perfectly legal. Encoding video into a new format is perfectly legal. The only thing that isn't legal is breaking encryption on a DVD, which we are not encouraging or detailing here.
