How is there not a thread about this yet? I checked both Debate and Water Cooler forums to see if there was one because I really doubt there's going to be any debate about the cops deserving to die. Then I quickly deleted making this thread in Debate after reading the rule against zero-sided debates. At any rate, this tragedy deserves a discussion.
Five police officers were fatally shot and seven others wounded Thursday when snipers opened fire in downtown Dallas during a protest over recent police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana, police said.
Three officers remained in critical condition, Syed said.
At least four of the officers belonged to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit agency, including one of those who died, according to the agency’s Twitter account.
We now know that the motive of the shooter was both racism and revenge against two recent black men mowed down by police. That makes his motives almost reasonable, yet absolutely and obviously immoral and unjustified in my opinion. I encourage more recent news articles regarding this tragedy to be posted so we can at least better get into the mind of this sick ****.
I don't condone what happened, and it breaks my heart when any life is lost, especially when I think about the family, and loved ones that have suffered the most. But, you cannot be completely blind to the frustration, and anger, and fear that caused this. There is a greater issue here. I have black friends that are scared for their lives. Most won't even step outside without their significant other, or someone else, LITERALLY in fear of their life. This is what having a few racists with so much power and no oversight causes. This is what fear causes. ****, luckily I am a light skinned latino, otherwise, I'd be ******* scared myself.

My ancestry is Scottish, Irish, Bohemian and Norwegian. I'm as white as they come. Yet if I had one drop of black blood in me (and a smartphone), I wouldn't be doing Pokemon GO for fear of my own mortality.
This sniper may well be just the beginning, similar to how Columbine sparked school shootings. Lord knows what would happen if a Mexican living in Maricopa County were inspired by this.
Edit, regarding race: I don't mean to offend anyone. I use Mexican as my main reference to people of that area, as it most accurately reflects their national origin. The fact is there's no good word for the skin color I'm talking about- Mexican means originating from Mexico, Hispanic means Spanish-speaking, and Latino means of Central American origin. None of those mean national origin between the Rio Grande and the Panama Canal, but Mexican is statistically the most likely to be accurate.

No worries. I take no offense to this. I am technically a third-generation Mexican immigrant (my mother was an immigrant from her parents that legally came from Chihuahua, Mexico, and as far as we know, my dad is a son from a Mexican immigrant mother, and Native American father; he was adopted). I know some people get touchy over "hispanic" as there is no "Hispaniola", or some other crap. But, eh, there are so many technicalities.

I'm glad we're cool.
I'm still worried about precedent though- not too long ago, there was a black fellow in NYC who decided two-for-two (somehow not expecting to die from it) would be a fair trade, posting ***** on Facebook like "they took two of ours, I'll take two of them" and "time to wrap some pigs in a blanket" right before the mayhem. I don't know about the safety of black lives, blue lives, or the stability of this country at this point.
