Hey guys, I want to get my wife some non-magic, non-video game..games so she can enjoy her Christmas gifts after she opens them (as opposed to getting her a coffee mug or something practical). She loves anything fantasy and she is obsessed with Star Wars. We tried D&D but having never played and only ourselves to play with, we didn't understand it and got rid of our books. We play Magic on a daily basis.
There's so many games out there, I was hoping to canvas the community and get some opinions! Thanks
X-Wing Miniatures Game Core Set - This is a really freaking awesome game. Fairly simple rules, a lot of fun playing dogfights. There is a Force Awakens version with repainted ships (and new cards) as well.
Smallworld is my favorite fantasy-themed board game.
The Pathfinder Adventure Card game is actually a pretty fun adventure-style game. A little bit RPG, a little bit card game, good for two people.
Assuming you haven't played a lot of 'high grade' board games (IE not many eurogames) the answer is carcason. It's pretty good two player, it's quick and easy and fun.
Yea, it's not the greatest game, but it is very good as a 'gateway' game.
Ticket to ride is also excellent, although not sure how good it is 1v1. Get europe, not america.
Boardgamegeek will recommend twilight struggle; I'd avoid initially. It is excellent, but very, very punishing if you're not familiar with those sorts of games.

I agree with the Star Wars game, I would add also Magic the Gathering: Arena of the Planeswalkers which is like $30 and can be had at most retail stores.
I would suggest also writing something a bit corny that shows affection that plays on the games you two play together in a card. Plus also finding specific gifts as a game with specific hints that she has to figure out if she is into that certain thing. Thing of doing something special that she would find fun, funny, or endearing or all of the above.

I'll check out those options Jay13x, thank you! Smallworld looks awesome...that's probably going in the shopping cart soon.
