A Rainbow Of Light would be counterproductive in G4, given that most of the ponies' adventures are relating to figuring out how to fix something & the Rainbow Of Light tends to be a magical fix-all...
Because FiM would never include a rainbow-colored MacGuffin Fix-It-All in the very first two-part episode and re-use it multiple times throughout the series...
Oddly enough I think Discord-as-villain affected the ponies in a very similar way as Smooze would have, so that might be redundant... Still want it, though, because SMOOZE!
Yeah, the Smooze did similar things to Discord's mind-whammy in the hedge maze, but the Smooze was also pretty close to being a grey goo, and that's just horrifying. Me wants.
Because FiM would never include a rainbow-colored MacGuffin Fix-It-All in the very first two-part episode and re-use it multiple times throughout the series...
Number of times the Elements Of Harmony have been used to fix things: Only when absolutely necessary, & it's a last resort or there is some assessment given to the situation prior to breaking out the Elements. The vast majority of the time the ponies don't have the Elements on hand (hoof?) They are also able to figure out ways to accomplish things without the Elements.
Number of times the Rainbow Of Light has been used to fix things: I wouldn't be surprised if they also used it to clean pony toilets. Like, seriously, the first attempted solution to almost everything was Rainbow Of Light. Megan ALWAYS had it with her & when it got taken away... for example in the G1 movie when the Smooze eats the rainbow, the ponies pretty much give up right then & there without looking for another solution.
So yeah, still a powerful rainbow magic... but major differences in how & why it's used, & what can be accomplished without it.
Just thought I'd... ya know... say hello for anyone who's there to listen... also... I'm really really bored...

That fight scene was awesome. I had two comments about all that after it was over:
1) The only difference between that fight scene and most anime fight scenes was battle damage on the characters. In an anime, Twilight would have at least been really bruised after getting knocked through the mountain. Not a complaint, just an observation. And then 2) At the very end when they all transformed with the out-of-this-world-entire-zip-code hair and then did a super charge up attack to finish Tirek, I realized that I just watched My Little Pony: The magical girl anime. Also not a complaint, I love magical girl anime. I had been watching the Precure series recently and there is a surprising parallel.
So I was curious what people here thought of the Equestria girls movies? My searchs of the internet have shown the MLP community largely divided. I liked them. They have some plot holes and some ignored details, and a couple of eye roll moments, but are just so much fun to watch regardless. And the music in both is pretty amazing. Also, (just in case people haven't seen the second one yet):
I love that Sunset Shimmer changed from a misguided and power hungry individual to a genuinely good person (Though it would have been nice to see some of that appear on screen instead of between the two movies). She is definately my favorite among the Equestria girl characters. As for how she compares to the ponies, hard to say, but I'd love to see a guest appearance in season 5 since the portal is open now.
Lastly, about season 5. I wonder where they are going with it. After I finised watching season 4, I thought about it and came to the conclusion that the ending of season 4 would be a perfect ending to the show. Like the way that seasons 1,2, and 3 ended didn't lend themselves to a good stopping point. While they could certainly keep going(as evidenced by the fact that they are), they could have stopped the show at the end of season 4 and it would have felt complete. Looking forward to the new season.
So I was curious what people here thought of the Equestria girls movies?
Didn't like the first one, and thus was pleasantly surprised when I gave the second a chance, and ended up enjoying it.
I still hate Flash Sentry, though.
It's funny because I think the first one is actually better written (there are bigger plot holes in the second one, also
"Sunset Shimmer, we need YOU!"
will forever earn a fist shake from me!) but I absolutely love the second one regardless. I feel that the second one was just more fun to watch.
Just out of curiousity, what don't you like about the first one? Have you gone back and watched it again after the seeing the second one? I ask that second question because it seems to me that a lot (thought not all, granted) of the hate the movies got is that people didn't really give them a chance/went into them expecting something vastly different than they got. I think the main problem with the movie is the problem with the show in general: The writing has declined since the first couple of seasons. Not that it's particularly bad or anything, just not as good as it was in the first two seasons.
But yea, Flash Sentry is sort of a goob. He's just kind of there and doesn't really add as much to the plot of the movies as they want him to.

I haven't watched the first movie in a while, so I don't specifically remember all of my grievances with it. Though I definitely remember feeling that Sunset Shimmer was an awfully bland villain who lacked any personality beyond "mean gurl". Also, I always cringe every time they use the Elements of Harmony to solve their problem, especially if the use of the Elements results in brainwashing the villain.
Ironically enough, one of my favorite parts of the second movie is Sunset Shimmer's character arc.
But yea, Flash Sentry is sort of a goob. He's just kind of there and doesn't really add as much to the plot of the movies as they want him to.
Ugh. Don't get me started on Flash Sentry.
TOO LATE, I'M STARTED!
So, in the first movie, the writers just sorta shove Flash Sentry into the plot for no reason other than to provide Twilight with a love interest. Except the plot gains nothing by doing so. And the only thing Flash Sentry contributes to the plot otherwise was proving that Sunset Shimmer's photos were fake, which is something that any character could have done. To say nothing of how pointless that particular plot detour was in the first place.
Then, in the second movie, they shove him right back in, despite having even less for him to do than before. Instead of, you know, sidelining him until they thought of something for him to do, which is what good writers do.
It's like watching a baby play with one of those learning-your-shapes toys, and he's repeatedly trying to shove a square peg into a round hole, completely oblivious to the fact that it's never going to work. But it's made all the worse by the fact that these writers are grown adults, who should know better. It's almost like Flash Sentry is someone's OC, and the writers are putting him in the movies as a favor to a friend.

I do agree that she is kind of a bland villain. She's really just a bully until the whole demon thing. By the way, are you saying they used the elements of harmony to brainwash Sunset Shimmer into being nicer? Because that's not really what happened. Their use of the element sure brought about a change, but it was because they used it to defeat her, not change her mind, much like the other villains.
But anyway, yea Sunset Shimmer's character arc is what I like so much about the second one as well. It makes the movie in my opinion.
But yea, Flash Sentry is sort of a goob. He's just kind of there and doesn't really add as much to the plot of the movies as they want him to.

Wow, that is almost word for word what I said to a friend when discussing Flash Sentry's role in the plot. Yea, he needs some work. But as long as the show doesn't completely die in the next year, there will more than likely be another one. Here's hoping they keep on with the level of writing in Sunset Shimmer's character arc and improve the other characters too. While the other girls are the human versions of the ponies, they have not grown anywhere near as much as their pony counterparts have. Guess we'll see. Actually, now that I think about it, has season 5 started yet? Anyone know when if not?

I have no idea what shipping means and I won't pretend to...
It's really not complicated or scary. "Ship" is just an abbreviation for "relationship" (generally assumed to mean romantic and/or sexual). Thus, "shipping" is putting people (or characters) into relationships.
Now, some individual ships could be scary or mind-bending. Like Harry/Voledmort.
You're kidding, right? How would that ship even work? They wouldn't have time to break up because by the time they got to that point one of them would be dead.

Don't ask me how it works, but there's two Harrymort tumblrs, a Harrymort website, a Harrymort Facebook group, three different categories for the pairing on Archive of your Own, four tags on Fanfiction.net for the pairing, a DeviantArt tag for the pairing and a Harrymort group on DeviantArt. I'm sure there's more, too.

Oh, child... You poor, deluded fool. Whoever said that all (or even most) ships make a lick of sense?
Sure, canon ships tend to actually make sense, but the number of canon ships is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of fan shippings. Fandoms come up with some wacky *****.
