Simply put, after reading the entire article above my mind went into a tailspin. Had me questioning everything I had ever done in my entire life and wondered if it was my own or by someone else's design. The mere thought that my thoughts and actions are not even my own is very distressing. The anxiety from it has placed me on medication just to sleep. The thing is, I'm not sure what to make of this article. The implications are shocking, but I don't know what to do. I don't know what to believe in anymore to be honest. My days just feel like an empty shell, and I just can't keep going on like that. Waking up and having sleep be the only thing to look forward to is not the way to live life. Can someone help me? Am I making a big deal out of this for nothing? Is there something I missed in the article that someone can explain. I just want another perspective on this, hopefully one that can help my mind to rest easy.

What you missed is that article is trash. It's just a lot of pseudo-philosophical rambling that doesn't actually mean anything. I mean, undeceived, really? Don't take everything you read so seriously. You are influenced by others, for sure, but no one can truly control you.
APurePhyrexia, you're a lot better off talking to a therapist about these kinds of issues than us. We're not mental health professionals and we're not really equipped to help you with what you're going through.
Well the thing is that I am currently seeing a therapist, but I just wanted to get other people's perspective on this matter. I don't think he can fully understand where I'm coming from. But I think a problem I have with this is that I have autism. I read that it means I take things at face value, which has given me a lot of grief in the past.

Also, reflect on this. You are worried that someone else is controlling you, so what happens is that someone who wrote an article on an internet blog is now controlling the way you feel. Your response here is a self-fulfilling prophecy
This is literally the best answer possible here.
I really have nothing that I can add to this, so I risk mod action and leave it at that.

Ah, I see. It would probably be better for you if you avoided subject matter that skewed more philosophical, then, if you have a problem with taking things at face value like this. It's not an easy subject even when you don't take it at face value.
Everyone is influenced by other people, by the people who raise you or by the books (or blogs) that you read. But it's still up to you to figure out who you are. Like I said, no one can control you, your actions are still your own. You get to determine who you are and who you want to be.
And really, don't waste your time reading blog articles, they're mostly written by people who don't know what they're talking about.
This is another one I came across, which tears open old wounds. I just don't know if it's a good point being made or someone being foolish. I just don't know enough to be able to analyze this properly.

If it makes comments referring to people as sheep, sheeple or something of that nature, or it uses a film or a book (especially the matrix) as a starting point or to make all of its comparisons, it's really not worth you reading.
I don't know though, the matrix does SOUND like an interesting comparison for the current way of life. But I don't really know. I just wish I knew how to analyze these sort of things. It sounds logical to me, I guess. I just don't know.

I can't say I honestly understand why this article has gotten you in such an existential rut. I found it rather boring - the language was far too flowery and the piece took far too long to get to the point, that being, "Reject ideas that stifle your Self." That's it. Sure, there are a lot of elements of public school curriculum, pop culture, and media in this society that are distressing to me, but for different reasons than what this article outlines. The whole thing is really just someone with too much time trying to incite rebellion in impressionable minds because they have nothing better to do. The author attempts to appear deep, and while I agree with him in principle, his presentation and approach are utterly lacking. I just can't get behind what he's saying and I don't think you should, either - at least not without doing your own research on the matter.
If you'd like to address some more specific issues that this has you pondering about, feel free to PM me so we can discuss it - I'd rather not derail this thread into a tangent seeing as I've made my point.

The funny thing with social science is that it is always after the fact. It is based on observations of the past to make a statement on the nature of that past. That means, if that article tells you how you should think about your own life, then they're wrong, because they don't know anything about you, only about the past of the world that you think you live in. Countless thinkers (many of whom had better podia than an online blog with a fishy name) have tried to analyze the 'design' of society and failed to anticipate even the more modest of changes.
Also, reflect on this. You are worried that someone else is controlling you, so what happens is that someone who wrote an article on an internet blog is now controlling the way you feel. Your response here is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Also reflect on why the observed lack of 'utter and complete freedom' disturbs you so much. Why are you so focused on your individual self? Why not look at yourself as part of a society, where you influence others and others influence you. I advise you to read on some proper social science on this matter, and get this alarmist nonsense out of your head, for it is just the extreme side of one viewpoint pushed into a certain categorization by liberalist people (which is totally in the neoliberal zeitgeist). Stuff like this might make things more relative and move you in another field of thought: http://www.academia.edu/576759/Understanding_the_Structure_and_Agency_debate_in_the_Social_Sciences (page 37)
By the way, I didn't fully read that article, I skimmed it and found it fairly disturbing not for its content, but for its presentation. It is really meant to scare people and its written in the way to maximize the scare factor. That website is a disgrace. Things like 'Top 5 cancer symptoms' and 'signs of a depression' as the first deeplinks indicate to me a society that thrives on the anxiety of its readers and fuels them for that reason. Realize you are being fooled.
I really enjoyed the academic discourse presented in the link you provided. To summarize it, social sciences are very interested in the interaction between culture and how it is created and consumed by people. How we interact with it can be just as important as how we create it. The link provided is very different that the other links, which are more in line with conspiracy theorist in nature.
