I don't watch as much Anime as I used to mainly because Japan has been making less good series to watch. Most of it is just slice of life and fanservice junk and I'm sick of it. I want creative Anime back again and sadly we won't ever get it again... -___-
The Anime I watch nowadays are One Piece, Cardfight!! Vanguard, Pokemon, and as for Western Cartoons The Legend of Korra, Thundercats 2011, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, and I think that's it. Yeah not much I know, it's a global recession what do you expect?

I don't know whether to be suprised or not. 4 pages and not a single mention of To Aru Majutsu no Index(A Certain Magical Index). While I acknowledge it's not for everyone, it has an interesting plot and setting, along with some memorable characters. It goes in my top ten anime of all time, although it's rare to find someone with the same tastes as me. I have to say Clannad After Story is probably the most excellent, heartwarming, and emotional anime I've ever seen. Another gem I've not seen mentioned is Bakemonogatari(GhoStory). While the production values are low, sometimes hilariously so, the series has some of the most excellent dialogue I've ever seen, a host of interesting characters, and some nice little plots that have a bit to do with Japanese folklore.
Air Gear(manga) is also great, although filled with ecchi and the plot is so dense and convoluted at times that you couldn't find it if it were a brick wall surrounding you on all sides. The anime is decent but ends before really going anywhere.
I have numerous other series to talk about, but doing so on a mobile device is rather annoying.
I'm a HUGE anime fan, though not those >100+ episode ones like Naruto and Bleach. Reading through this thread. I saw a few of my favorites, e.g: Gurren Lagann, Angel Beats!, Index, mentioned.
Those who have not seen "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" are missing on something epic. It has a deep plot, though it does begin a bit slow, that allows for so much discussion. The animation is top-notch and you'll care about each of the main characters and their motivations, coz they're just so real. Not to mention, OST is just plain Awesome. It all boils down to one question (warning-potential spoiler):
If you knew a friend could make a deal to have ultimate power, but regardless of her actions, she'd always be on the losing end of the deal, how far would you go to stop her?
P/S: If you look it up on animenewsnetwork or any other anime site, don't let the cover pic fool you.
So I just finished watching Chevalier d'Eon not too long ago. It's... probably one of the more unique things on my queue, I'll give it that. Not all too happy about how they turned a real-life trans woman into a cis dude possessed by his dead sister, but hey, rule of drama, or something. It's one of those series that I didn't notice I really enjoyed until it was all over and I wished there was more.
Pretty good for something that got recommended to me solely because "hey, you're trans and this has trans themes, so you should like it." Although the trans themes are hardly the main reason to watch it—the political intrigue overshadows it pretty heavily (for instance, spousal abuse is a bad idea when you're Peter III and your wife is Catherine the Great). Plus it adds to my hipster "I watch all kinds of anime no one's ever heard of" cred.

Yea, the japanese seem to like the idea of possessions for stuff remotely like this.
I remember watching one or two episodes and losing interest in it.

What a piece of garbage. The series isn't that good in the first place, but season 4 just throws plot out the window (it was based on a series of light novels) in favor of jiggly bits and harem.
Starting with Lotte no Omocha. I am less than impressed.

Its pace is definitely glacial, I'll give it that. I think it was worst when they got to England and things just dragged on and on and on up until they finished the Medmenham Abbey arc. It picked up once they returned to France, though, but I'm really not a fan of:
Lia going from "badass spirit seeking revenge for her murder" to "I'm pissed off that a man rejected me." Ugh. Just ugh. Way to derail her character, writers. At least the "Maximilien Robespierre isn't actually the Robespierre from history" reveal with Robin actually being the historical Robespierre was kind of cool.
Still a good series overall, I'd say, and it plays with real history in a very amusing way (for instance, the real d'Eon went by the name Lia de Beaumont for a good portion of her life). But it's very slow.
As for resorting to possession/transformation/etc as a plot device (speaking in general here, not about any specific show), I guess it's to allow the gender variance while keeping the character "really" male, or something. Kind of like how bishounen/biseinen characters are seen as manly in Japanese culture because they think any guy who looks like that is very sure of their gender deep down. Although not all series do this. Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl (which is such a guilty pleasure of mine but I don't care because it's awesome) pretty much went the "Hazumu was almost certainly trans to begin with" angle and it was kind of refreshing. Also I'd recommend that one to anyone who wants a yuri love triangle that doesn't take itself very seriously, because it manages to be so cute that even I'll go on about that aspect, which is really saying something.
Finished legend of the galactic heroes yesterday and I must say it was really, really good. Now I don't know what to watch though.
Honestly dude, you kinda just watched one of the, if not the best anime of all time. It's not likely you'll find something that wont be a disappointment after that.

I agree, I'm pretty sure it's my favorite. But I'll have to watch something next in any case.

I watched bakemonogatari last night and all I can say is that I feel cheated somehow. The character construction, plot flow, and conversation were great, but Araragi is a character who irritates me with his over the top selflessness.

On episode 7 of Code Geass. Actually enjoying it a lot, and I'm coming to the conclusion really fast it's like a better made version of Death Note. It has a lot of the same themes, but I actually care about the characters I'm supposed to, and their motivations actually make sense. It's great!

I discovered a new anime that my friend suggested to me- Speed Grafter. Has anyone here seen this? It looks nice.
You mean speed grapher? The dude with the camera? It's actually pretty good, yea. The concept is obviously cheesy and silly, but I was surprised with how good the story got. Lots of pretty cool moments in it too.
If you just want something fun and reasonably short, go for it.

It actually seemed rather justified to me. Depressed people often undervalue their own existence, and he was only really irritatingly selfless when it came to Hanekawa, which made sense. He viewed her as an embodiment of goodness, someone beyond reproach. He also tended to find his own self worth through what others saw him as, which is a very classic problem among teenagers.
He was believable, if a bit over the top, but I think most of the series tends towards that.

Just wait until you get to season 2. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say that it's decidedly lower-quality than season 1. The final story arc in particular made me cringe at how bad it was.
This series, on the other hand, I went into with low expectations and came out a total, unapologetic Sebastian fangirl (side note: his dub voice helped tremendously with that). It should also come as a surprise to exactly no one that I also think Grell is pretty badass, although I'm a bit annoyed at the direction they took her in following her first appearance. Oh well, Bassy makes up for any of the show's shortcomings.
... I think I'll stop the fangirl rambling while I'm ahead, eh?

I was afraid of that. Without giving any details can you confirm or refute the below question?
Does it focus heavily on C.C. (her real name hasn't been revealed yet)?

No, it doesn't. I won't give any details that'd spoil it, but season 2 does ruin most of the world-building from season 1. Minor spoilers about the tone/theme of the season, nothing that'd wreck the plot:
It basically goes full-out "giant robots blowing each other up is cool!" mode and throws any semblance of coherent story or developed characters out the window. It's like they dropped the average age of the target audience by a few years between seasons.
Oh. Well that's not that bad. While I did prefer the first half of Gurren Lagann to the second half for that reason, it's not quite the sort of terrible I was expecting. We'll see, but that just relieved a lot of my concern.
As an aside, on the website I've been watching it on there are three seasons listed. Is the third season more similar to the second or first?

Code Geass is far and beyond my favorite TV show ever.
I agree season 1 is better, but I think season 2 builds well off of it (starts a bit slow plotwise), but the payoff for season 2 was amazing, and had some awesome character moments.
Season 1 is a 10 to me, and Season 2 a 9.5 probably. Would recommend this to pretty much anyone (English dubs are wayyyy better than the Japanese imo for this show)
Only anime that comes close is Fullmetal Alchemist.
i think this card is Freakin' awesome just imagine zoo with this even on the draw u flex "Nutz" any mana drawing the extra card u can pitch and turning up the gas on tempo and it still taps for mana easily a 3 of most likely a 4 of
I am currently trekking through all of Dragonball, DBZ, and eventually DBGT. I sort of forgot originally why I decided to do this. Really Dragonball and DBZ are great series, but my god the amount of filler and drawing out of fights is making me go crazy. The series could've been a third as long and lost nothing.
To give you an idea, the battle itself with Frieza is over 30 episodes. That's longer than most series.
I am currently in the middle of The Imperfect Cell saga. Wish me luck.
Well, if we're talking about what we're watching at the moment, I might as well drop my MAL page, since I haven't yet in this thread. Lately I've been watching old shorts and compilations like NeoTokyo, Robot Carnival, and Genius Party. It's kinda fun to see, for example, some non-Akira Katsuhiro Otomo.
Most recently, I've finished Panty & Stocking, Dog Days, and Catman. I found Catman to be the most interesting of the three; P&SwG was entertaining for what it was, but not highbrow to say the very least.
