I am getting a bit bored with this season's anime right now. There are a few I like but for the most part I just want this season to be over as there seem to be more chaff anime than worthwhile anime.
Also, how the hell has Attack on Titan not done a season two yet? That show has been crazy popular across the boards. I just don't understand what the delays have been from. It first aired like two years ago now.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Honestly, ECP, Hunter X Hunter 2011 is overrated. It started out great with good pacing, but quick turned into the same slog many shonen adaptations become.

I think they're trying to avoid an FMA situation where they get past the Manga and make up their own story. The Attack on Titan Manga isn't really that much farther ahead than the anime. I think they're finally around the point where they could adapt another 20+ episodes, but I'd really rather they wait and do a well-paced adaptation than spend another few episodes emphasizing discussions that take a few pages in the manga. The AoT Manga is long enough by chapter that they could reasonably do an episode per chapter and have it be fairly paced.

they have had so much time to expand on it I cant believe that's all the farther the manga is.
As for HunterXHunter, it dips at times but it has its redeeming times too. Its one of the few shonen shows I do watch but its done a better job keeping me interested than most. Its great at times and it sometimes sucks.

Re this season: a lot of this season started out more promising than what most the shows panned out to be. Death parade was a massive disappointment, rolling girls went from a fun kinda fast paced girl fight show to a kind of meandering friendship show, aldnoah zero is finally finishing up, tokyo ghoul has "gantz disease". Yatterman and kuroko are still awesome though.

By the time the Anime ended, I'm pretty sure the manga was only may 10-15 chapters further ahead.
As for HxH, I watched the OVAs like 10 years ago and read the manga up to the Chimera arc before giving up, so I'm familiar with the material. The anime was good quality, but I just got annoyed when they started stretching things out on the hunter exam.
I just looked at next season, and I'm really not that hype. Only a couple new anime looking promising with a couple good sequels.
The big problem as far as AoT is concerned is the guy doesn't want to write it anymore because he started it when he was depressed and now he's rich and happy and doesn't want to focus on AoT
AoT also got a lot worse. The manga has noticeably dipped in quality. I prefer the HxH manga, but ******* Hiatus-sensei means we get 4 chapters a year.
I called this season ***** and I was right. Outside of S2s/2 cours very few shows are of notable quality.
Bakuman and Medaka Box are far better manga than they are anime. The Deadman Wonderland manga has issues but it's also pretty cool at times. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is like a real modern fantasy novel but a manga. CLAMP has a tendency to be fairly basic/formulaic, but it's enjoyable and looks nice. Maybe some homoerotic tendencies.
For short anime recommendations with the not too shiny art, Silver Spoon has 24 episodes and looks just like FMA. Haruhi, particularly the movie, looks great with being super digital imo. Baccano and DRRR!!!! are great anime that have classic art. I've really liked One Week Friends/Isshuukan Friends from more recent anime, it has a cutesy art style and it's very sweet. Magi is a new rendition of shounen, and at the very least up to what the anime has covered is very enjoyable, although later bits in the manga may be fringing on too edgy. Tiger & Bunny has Sunrise art if you're in to that. It looks pseudo-futuristic. Spice and Wolf.
A recent anime that was a real standout is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. It's a 4-koma style anime that has beautiful art that all looks hand drawn. It's a great light hearted comedy that I would happily recommend.
EDIT: Next season looks better than this one did. 15th anniversary Digimon is exciting, Shokugeki no Souma gets an anime, Hibike! Euphonium looks like good K-On!, although I don't think any music anime will ever replace Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso in my heart at this point. Kekkai Sensen could be good, Lupin III is rebooting too or something, the Yuki/Haruhi anime airs, Owari no Seraph has a good aesthetic, Plastic Memories and Re-Kan look okay, and Yahari Ore 2 is enough to get me hype for anything.
At least with the HxH manga the art quality has come back up to what we've come to expect. Dude probably just got a bunch more assistants with his wifes Sailor Moon Crystal money and his (up until hiatus) 2011 money since the 2011 stopped making new episodes at the same point where we had one of the more recent insanely long gaps.
Still sucks that he averages like 10 chapters a year (or is it really 4? I thought it was more than that)
Also, doesn't he have, like, some sort of insanely debilitating disease or something?
edit:
As to the season sucking. I dunno. Assassination Classroom has been really enjoyable for me.
Also, I don't really get why we have to judge the quality of a 3 month period based upon what shows started during that 3 month period and not what shows are on the air during it.
I separate them for Anime of the Season purposes, so one anime can't win two seasons.
And no, he does not have an insanely debilitating disease. After all the ***** he had to go through with Yuyu Hakusho he made Jump give him a contract that said he could take breaks whenever he wanted.
Technically he averages 14 per year, but he wrote a lot more of those earlier in it's lifetime.
I love Assassination Classroom. I read the manga. But on the whole the amount of shows to come out this season that are new and good is staggeringly low. I watch tons of anime so when I season has a drop in quality overall it is very noticeable to me.
I also watch a ton of anime(but because of my work schedule I try to separate a lot of chaff right from the beginning) but even the stuff I pegged as god based on the first couple episodes turned out to be bad. The only new show that I really feel was really good(8 or higher) is Yatterman. Obviously KnB was very good but I feel most everything else as been a 6 or lower with the exception of a couple 7s(Assassination Classrom and maybe Aldnoah Zero 2). And yeah the reason why shows are judged by the season they came out and not the season they end is because of Anime of the year. Parasyte was a 2014 AotY candidate, so saying it was the best thing in a 2015 season is funky. So media outlets do judge by season ended though, so you'll probably see parasyte hype in December.
You like good, short anime? You want a non-mainstream art style? Boy do I have an anime for you. Also check out Baccano(as already suggested) and Tatami Galaxy.
As for next seasom: I've only seen 2 of the series that have sequels and I'm only really hype for Baby Steps of those 2. The new series mostly look bad. Lupin reboot is cool, Dungeon might be cool, Food wars and My Love Story!! should be really good, Hibike Euphonium might be really good or really awful, Kekkai Sensen is Bones so people will love it and I probably won't watch it because I somehow don't watch much Bones stuff, and Seraph of the End looks like something to check out. Everything else looks bad. I might watch Triage X despite it looking bad cause boobs.
Edit: Also Diamond No Ace "season 2" even though diamond no ace actually won't have a break. Oh man, the good SnK is getting a sequel too. YAY! I might try to storm through the first digimon series to watch the reboot.
I'm avoiding the HxH manga and YYH manga because of the art deterioration towards the end of each series.
I might check out Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and some CLAMP stuff(probably X/1999). I hated Deadman Wonderland and dropped it a little after halfway through. Don't want to dedicate that much more time to Bakuman.

Casual crazy magic player, otaku maniac, unrully cosplayer, what did you expect me to be?
Anyone else watching Your lie in April? I really enjoy the show but man its one heck of a debby downer. Its like this spiraling tragedy that you constantly see it coming but have to keep watching to see if it happens or not. They are really stretching out like one event but the music and characters are good enough that I dont mind (other than the fact that its so depressing lol).

One anime that caught me by surprise was Hajime no Ippo when I first started watching it, I didn't think it was going to be so good. Has anyone seen it?
Fighting Spirit is amazing. Huge fan of that show. It has so much I like about it though. Huge Martial Arts/ Boxing fan, and really like Slice of Life stuff in anime too, so Fighting Spirit really nails it for me. Super addicting show to watch.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
