I mean, I guess it's still all about what you're used to. Not sure if I'd find football particularly engaging if I hadn't started caring about it at an early age, but no point in speculating about that.
In other news, what a goal! James Rodriguez is showing himself to be one of the absolute best players in the tournament so far, very possibly the best.
Well, looks like we have another clear candidate for the title - France is 5-0 up against Switzerland. Sadly I'm only following along on radio - I would have much liked to watch this one on TV.
What about watching it on the stadium?
I know that this was ages ago, but I couldn't resist a little bragging. My city has been especially lucky this World Cup, and I got to watch France-Switzerland, Netherlands-Spain, and Germany-Portugal from the stands. It's been the kind of month my grandchildren will hear about.
On another note, I was devastated about Mexico yesterday. They're dominating the game, up 1-0... and then decide to start playing defence and let the Netherlands do what they do best, from freaking 60' onwards. Come on, Herrera, how can you be this dumb and this coward? Man!
I'm still rooting for all teams from the Americas to get as far as possible, either way. Go Argentina and USA tomorrow! I'll try to get ahold of a last-minute ticket for the USA match.
Man, hoping Nigeria wins today. They're way better than France right now & deserve to be ahead (and should have been awarded a penalty late in the first half). But I bet France wins in the end...
France won deservedly against Nigeria in the end. The last 20 minutes were a real onslaught against the Nigerian goal, with several "surely they score this time" moments. Still a bit upset about it.
the pundits are stating that the US being more of a "team" will help them out vs Belgium which is a group of great individual players.
Anyone who thinks that has no clue what he's talking about. I don't doubt the team spirit of USA, but Belgium does not have "individualists" at all in the current group. The team spirit is better than it has ever been. Wilmots emphasizes the group over the individual heavily, and it has clearly shown all through qualifying and at the tournament. For our current players, I'd say the strong team spirit is in fact one of our strong points as well. Understandably, American media want to emphasize the US team spirit by stating Belgium's is poor, but it's simply an uninformed and untrue statement.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.
Strangely it was the English media saying that, not the American Media.
My understanding is that the English have adopted the USA team due to their team being knocked out (I believe this is written fact and has also been announced during the WC).
USA has a good team, probably not a QF team this year, but they are getting stronger
I think Belgium-USA could go either way. Belgium has the better roster in theory, but their matches so far have been mild affairs. The USA team, on the other hand, has been oozing a kind of drive that is beautiful to see. Should be a great match.
PS: I think Germany-Algeria might be the best 0-0 draw I've seen in ages. DAT goalkeeper!
I am very happy that our commentators don't do that - one of the most annoying things about Latin American & Iberic football culture, in my opinion...
But yes, this has been a very good match. Algeria has been an impressive side in this world cup, and can be proud of their performance even though it looks like they will lose to Germany in the end.
Generally I don't like when they do that either, some announcers do it better than others though. It's been a stressful game as a German fan. Algeria probably deserves a better fate and has looked dangerous especially down the left side.
In other news, what a goal! James Rodriguez is showing himself to be one of the absolute best players in the tournament so far, very possibly the best.
Costa Rica up on Greece!
(I don't want Greece to win, mind you, but the tension in this 2nd round is ridiculous.
Absolutely agree with you. What a game. Drama and wow, so many missed PK's
CONCACAF represent.
I looked up their twitter account and was very sad (though also thoroughly unsurprised) to see that they hadn't actually posted that.
Well, I'm glad CONCACAF is experiencing some success. Usually it's just UEFA and CONMEBOL.
Though it would've been epic if they had tagged UEFA about it(as UEFA has been vocal about the number of "bad" teams that get into the World Cup)
Edit: This is real though
Back in 2005, a friend and I made a bet with someone else that the US would win the world cup by the end of 2030. We shall see!
That seems like sort of a pain in the ass bet since its got such a long time to see if its fulfilled lol.
Also I would be prone to being on the side that is saying that we will not.

@Rick: Jealous, of course. Enjoy it!
Edit: Stupid keyboard, I tapped the "S" but it didn't register

What a goal, but I am biased

However, Germany has enjoyed possession
Edit: Whenever I criticize a player this world cup, they score a goal next chance
Nice timing there
