Everyone. I love MMA. I'm simply pointing out that it's ridiculous to hate on Jon Jones because most fighters are either just as dislikable outside the cage and/or half as exciting inside it.
Edit: but if you insist on an answer, I like Bendo, Cerrone, Pettis, Khabib, Dodson, Mighty mouse, Aldo, Max Holloway, Mark Hunt, Pat Barry, JDS, jeremy Stevens, Ben Askren, genki sudo, kid yamamoto, Shinya Aoki, stun gun, Korean zombie, Hiroaki takaya, Alex caceres, Francisco rivera, Eddie alvarez, gilbert, Edson barbosa, and all the fighters you named beside Machida and Sonnen. Oh spider obv. Love spider.
I wonder how the Alvarez Melendez fight would have played out if Alvarez didn't swell his eye shut after the first round. I'm glad he got the win because I feared he'd be a 3 and out in the UFC. There are so many exciting matchups with him that it would be a shame if he were to get cut quickly.
Rumble lost to Cormier pretty convincingly. Cormier got clowned by Jones. Get real.
MMAth doesn't work. Werdum lost to Dos Santos, Dos Santos lost to Velasquez, Velasquez lost to Werdum. There's plenty of other examples of this. Styles make fights, past wins/losses don't. Stylistically Cormier was a much tougher match up for Rumble than Jones. I'm not saying Rumble would have absolutely beaten Jones, but he'd have a better shot at beating Jones than at beating Cormier. It's a shame we didn't get to see that fight.
Anywho, I don't get hating on any fighters. The toughness and skill it takes to make it to the UFC is no joke. And these guys go through hellish training camps, endure all kinds of injuries, risk permanent damage every time they step into the cage, and do it all for our amusement. They're all great in my book.
I agree that MMAth doesn't always work but the thing is, Jones could have worked the same exact gameplan on Rumble. Look at the entire Jones reign and tell me where Rumble has something unique to offer? MMAth is not perfect but there are many times where it does work.
The Werdum example is awful btw. 1st, those fights spawn over a half decade and all of those fighters have improved leaps and bounds since then. 2nd, Dos Santos also beat Velazquez(which is closer in time to the Werdum-Dos Santos match than the Werdum-Velazquez match)
Jones's take downs aren't as good as Cormier's. He also tends to stand with opponents much more than Cormier does. Plus Jones is arrogant and prefers to engage opponents where they are strongest, he would have been much more likely to engage Rumble on the feet than Cormier was. The longer the fight stays standing, the better the chance for Rumble to land a bomb. Now again, I'm not say that Rumble would have beaten Jones for sure, but he'd have a better shot at beating Jones than he would at beating Cormier.
Oh jesus christ. It's the freshest example in my head cause the Werdum/Velasquez fight was recent. Quit being so damn nit picky, you know the point I'm making.
Jones' takedowns are good enough that against Rumble they might as well be Cormier's takedowns. I don't think Rumble is in the top 5 strikers that Jones has fought. There is no reason to believe that Rumble's style is strong against Jones' but weak against Cormier. He's simply not a championship quality fighter.
But...it's the internet. Where else can I be picky?
AudioTsunami... The things you say drive me wild man. Rumble is an absolutely devastating striker. Cormier ate some heavy, heavy blows and came back to choke out a gassed Rumble, but in no way did DC "dominate" that fight. He was almost out 3 or 4 times....
Either way, gonna be a fun night of fights tonight. Honda about to add another arm to the collection.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
Fight metric doesn't tell the entire story of a fight.
Silva - Sonnen is an easy example of that right of the dome. With Sonnen landing on Silva 3-1 in significant strikes, and 5-1 overall.
Let me ask you, who won that fight?
And another great example. Overeem - Browne
With Reem again out striking Browne 3-1.
Who won that fight?
....And another. Rua - Machida
With Rua out striking Machida ~2.5-1. Out striking Machida literally every round.
Who won that fight?
Just because DC landed more doesn't mean he did more damage. DC was rocked and nearly out at least 2 times, and hit with another bomb a third time. He withstood the storm, and came back to choke out a gassed Rumble, but in no way was that "domination". It was a fun, competitive, back and forth bout, and I'm not even a fan of Rumble, or a detractor of DC. That's just the objective truth, like it or not.
Way to point to 2 come from behind finishes and probably one of the most notorious poorly judged matches in UFC history. None of which change the fact that Daniel Cormier dominated Johnson.
Fights last night were really lackluster. I'm also kinda tired of waiting around to watch Rousey just dominate on people. Which almost has me excited for her to fight Tate, because at least she has stood with her for five minutes before and not completely get dominated. I feel like they're just going to have start tying one of her hands behind her back.

I agree the fights were really lackluster. Which fight with Tate are you talking about? I don't feel either of them was particularly close.
Tate made it to the second round against her in their second fight. It wasn't necessarily close, but she hung in there better than anybody else has so far. I really don't know what they do with Rousey in terms of managing her. People are gonna lose interest if she doesn't get some competition quickly. We just don't know what she can really do in a fight, because she ends them in thirty seconds.

I went to a bar last night to watch the fights, and it was an eye opening experience. A staggering number of people were there. There was probably 150 people in this bar(the bar definitely couldn't hold too many more people it was wall to wall packed and packed outside in their patio area). I want to say a large number of these people weren't there for anythign but Rousey. Lot of girls, lot of guys that were just talking and bull*****ing until the Rousey fight came on. I normally watch the fights at home(only other fight I went out to see was a Chuck Liddell fight 5 years ago)but it seemed that this was way more people then usual and every single person was there for Rousey. And when she won they all went ******* wild. Like comparable to USA world cup win level wild(USA chants and all). As it stands, she's a giant draw and people will keep going to see her fights because they are fast and she finishes fights(regardless of how bad she looks) and I really don't see that changing. I think the person who's going to get bored is Rousey herself. She said her plan for the next year or so was "Beat correia, Beat tate again, film a movie, beat next chick". That almost sounds like something with an Anderson Silva-esque level of boredom.
But it was kind of disconcerting, there was a lot of kind vulgar and misogynistic ***** being said that put me off. Her fights kinda seem like accepted public misogyny.
i don't know man, She's ridiculously popular. Casual fans WANT to see 34 second destruction. That's what everyone who was in the same bar as me wanted. It's like Tyson 20 years ago. Casual fans want fast fights and there are way more casual fans and people that are just plain uninterested outside of Rousey than there are people who like MMA, so I'd say Dana loves it cause he is getting paid.
Rousey - Holm. What do you guys think? I'm not really feeling this fight right now. Holm herself said she would rather take a few more fights, and develop her MMA game a bit more before fighting Rousey.
Also UFC 194. Wow. This is easily going to be one of the greatest cards of all time. As long as everyone makes it there injury free. This card is straight stacked.
Aldo - Mcgregor, Weedman - Rocky, and Jacare - Romero all on the same card is pretty crazy.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
Rousey - Holm isn't a fight. It's super funny that Holm herself says that she wants more fights when before her debut her camp was pushing for an immediate fight. She's gonna get ragdolled by Ronda. Girl has never fought a high level grappler.
I'm gonna say pump the breaks on the hyperbole on UFC 194 because 200 is just a few months after that. You know they are gonna bring the ******* thunder for 200. It's gonna be some Brock Lesnar coming back to fight King Kong *****. Some all 9 champions fighting bloodsport Chong Li style *****.
Holm made Rhonda chase her around the ring like a boxer then took her right out. She looks exhausted as **** when she missed that take down. Holy had a game plan, and it was the total foil to Rhonda. Smart plays and a total victory for Holm.
That was crazy. I've watched the fight 4-5 times now. Holly never looked that good, and Ronda has never looked so bad. It was complete domination. If I didn't know which girl was which, I wouldn't have been able to guess correctly by looking at them. Each time I watch it, it just gets more and more lopsided. I'm like, stunned and have been trying to understand why Ronda looked so ridiculously bad.
Honda was completely dismantled. She had literally nothing for Holm. Nothing. And to be honest if you watch Holms other fights it's not that hard to see this outcome happening. Styles make fights and Holm is to technical, to rangey, to patient, and to strong for Honda.
Amazing night. The night Casual MMA died.

To be just as fair, Honda has never fought an actual high level striker until last night. Eating your words now eh? Honda has been exposed.

Dude, don't act like you had Holm winning that fight before it happened. If you did, show me a betting ticket, cause anyone who thought that an underdog that was as high as +1000 would win, would have put money on it and walked off very rich and very happy. Other than that I don't want to hear it. The whole world was wrong about that fight. And it's true, Ronda never fought a striker before. A true striker. Her striking has always looked bad, even in her knockout victories. All offbalance haymakers. But nothing in Holm's past UFC fights suggested she would be that dominant or be able to defend Rousey's takedown attempts or get up from being taken down, and if it did, this wouldn't have been nearly as big a deal as it was and she wouldn't have been such a big underdog. Yeah, I was wrong, just like everyone else in the entire world, including you. Show me a ticket or shut up about knowing Holm would win.
Also, how many times has "Casual MMA" died now? Casual MMA is ridiculously strong. Do you know what Bellator's highest ratings this year were pulled from? Kimbo v Shamrock. Casual MMA lives forever. As long as bad fighters with big names will punch each other in the face Casual MMA will be alive. And honestly, it's a good thing(barring Bellator doesn't just schedule those type of freakshow fights over scheduling great fights from a lot of their young and homegrown talent).
Just a little bit more on the "death" of casual MMA. Ken shamrock is headlining a Bellator card next year against Royce Gracie. Yeah, that Royce Gracie. The co-main event? Kimbo Slice vs Dada 5000(the "dawg fights" guy).
Oh and on the best Bellator card of the year, the ratings peaked during the Bobby Lashley fight.
