Just yesterday The Amazing Spider-Man #700 was released and nerdrage like never before rose up because of it.
Peter Benjamin Parker was killed by Otto Gunther Octavius. Before Peter died he got Doctor Octopus to grow a heart. And Doc Ock promised to be Spider-Man and continue the helping of the people
Now people are crying fowl on this because:
You cannot kill a superhero and become one!! Doc Ock may understand the value of life now but he tried to fry everyone on Earth a couple of months ago and that just the last in a looooong line of villainy!!
and
Once Peter realized he couldn't beat Doc Ock because Doc Ock would do anything to win, Peter tried to kill him. Now some people are claiming that isn't very heroic. Or at least no Spider-Man style heroics.
I have to admit I am sooo happy with the change. The writer wants to make it permanent. He's already received death threats because of it. Hopefully it'll sell and the Powers that Be won't make him change it back.
I don't even really follow Marvel stuff and I'm still kind of nerd-ragey.
As I said I don't really follow much Spider-Man so I don't exactly know what led to this, but isn't this kind of blasphemy against one of the most memorable comic book characters ever created by Lee and Ditka? It's true that there's that new kid running around in Ultimate Spider-Man (which I used to love 5, 6 years ago), but that's a side universe thing after all.
It sounds like he and Doc switched bodies... weird but I guess that's how these things work. But isn't Peter Parker kind of in the spotlight with the new movies, which would make this move counterproductive? Knowing Marvel, Peter will probably get resurrected though, but it took them 2 years to do that with Captain America.
This is honestly why I don't like following comics, or even reading graphic novels. But I guess they do what they have to do to keep it going, kind of like a daytime soap opera.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.
I'm not one to follow comics, but I really like this from the synopsis you provided.
I love it when the "hero" realizes that he may need to kill the bad guy if he wants to be a hero. One of my favorite heroes is Punisher, though, so take this as you will. My dad's a cop, and I've heard enough to know putting the bad guy in jail is more often than not, not enough.
But then I see how Spidey ultimately dies when he decides he needs to kill Doc Ock, and it serves as this lesson that "stooping to the level of villainy is never the answer." That disappoints me.
Finally, I see the change of heart that Doc Ock has to the point that he becomes a hero. That I find a little awesome. There really is only one way to stop a bad guy that's not killing him, and it's a life changing experience that turns him into a hero.
All in all, I hope this sticks.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
Reminds me of the death of Superman, it's a cute ploy, that in the end they'll warp the universe to retrofit everything. This is why I still feel that rather than continuous retcons, set a time period for comic books and kill off the universe over time with revisits every so often.
It's like taking more recently in DC with Young Justice:
That Miss Martian and Beast Boy have a mother/son or sister/brother relationship. It's different than both of their origin stories, but it has made the characters different and possible explorations in that series.
Thus far Spider Man has seemed to jump the shark, besides...
Ultimate universe already killed Peter Parker
Frankly, I was hoping Mayday Parker to become canon and him to become a father, it would've been a more natural evolution of the character.

I was hoping this would become and issue here so I could talk about it.
Spoilers for ASM #700 and Superior Spider-man #1
I sincerely doubt that this is permanent. Everything points to this being a memory 'imprint' rather than both minds being 'switched'. The death in 700 didn't have to be literal, and the whole afterlife section started before Otto's body died.
Superior Spider-man proved this point by having Peter's 'ghost' actively working to stop Otto from doing stupid things, like running away and leaving cops in danger to murdering a villain. I think that this will turn out to just be Peter's identity beginning to reassert control over the Otto imprint.
I know I'm a little late, but I just recently read ASM #700.
Before I read it, I pretty much knew Spider-Man was going to die. I didn't know how they would do it, though. I really thought they might bring in the kid from the Ultimate line. I was prepared to hate that.
Once I read it though, I thought they handled it much better than I expected. I don't think this change will be permanent. Aunt May died in issue #400. Peter Parker was supposed to be the clone and Ben Reilly was the real Peter. During "The Other" Peter grew talons and developed other powers. All these things have been retconned or basically ignored by later writers.
Marvel will use this to sell a few books, but if the fan base complains enough, they will undo it. The way they handled it leaves them SO many options to change Peter back.
By the way, I am pretty sure Peter killed someone before.

Anyone else happy... or nerdraging?
Control is the ultimate expression of power.

Seems Marvel is really raking in the money on this issue. Hopefully, The Superior Spider-Man will sell just as well.
