I usually prefer the original version of a song over any covers, since I believe that only the original artist can truly capture the feeling and emotion of the song, but there are several songs where I prefer a cover over the original.
The first is Marilyn Manson's cover of Sweet Dream are Mad of This, because it is so creepy and dark compared to the original. I miss the keyboard from the original in Manson's version, as I play that instrument, but I am very fond of how his version is slow and ominous in its sound.
The other is Aerosmith's cover of Train Kept A-Rolling, which is such an amazingly epic example of hard rock music that it is my favorite rock song of all time; whenever I hear it, I always get excited and my emotional state never fails to improve.

Black Ingvars has a ton of really good covers, but ones that stand out are Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang, and Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie by ABBA
Yeah love child by Deep Purple sounds better on Whitesnake's Purple Album, although Coverdale was in both bands and I'm pretty sure wrote that song so either way really...
The Sage is occupied with the unspoken

Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,

Emily Browning or Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams. Can't go wrong with either.
Within Temptation - Radioactive. Blows away the original so hard it isn't funny.
Frank Zappa - Stairway to Heaven. I love the original, but Zappa's take is amazing.
Ronnie James Dio and Yngwie Malmsteen - Dream On.
Ascension - Listen to Your Heart. Amazing metal version of a decent soft rock song by Roxette.
Gavin Mikhail - New Divide. Piano version with stellar vocals of Linkin Park track.

"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Also, just about anything by Van Canto
I see your Hammerfall cover and raise you Sonata Arctica's cover.
Also, Tony Kakko singing the Pokemon theme song.

Don't know if these are strictly "better", but both/all versions are excellent:
- Lovers in a Dangerous Time. Cover by Barenaked Ladies. Original by Bruce Cockburn.
- Always on my Mind. Covers by The Pet Shop Boys, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley.
Change the World - Mac Demarco cover of Eric Clapton
Love Clapton's voice on the original, but damn does Mac ever do a good cover of this. The guitar tones are on point and the chorus is just so damn uplifting.

And then there's the absolutely amazing cover by Trigger Finger:

Nice use of a glass, a cup and a knife aswel.
Another cover by them of Duffy's Mercy:

Cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Boh4lE1fe0c
If you think these covers are good, check out some of the original songs by Triggerfinger , they are the real deal!
