Surfin' with the Alien- Joe Satriani
The album of the same name is great, great guitar...and that's pretty much it

"caprici di diablo" by yngvae malmsteen (don't know how to spell it) is the official hardest song on rock band the video game...ever. i think it's just as hard as Through the fire and flames from guitar hero, if not harder. And i've beaten both those songs on expert.
but i'm more of a rap guy. who's excited for eminem's next album. it's confirmed!
I can't believe The Veronicas removed their "Hook Me Up" music video from Youtube! It's probably because they finally had some chart success in the US with "Untouched". I've listened to this band since their first album but I my opinion of them has greatly deteoriated since their rise in popularity. I liked it better when they were obscure everywhere except Australia.
EDIT: Also, I'm waiting for Killers to release a "Spaceman" music video. I hope its better than "Human". That one made no sense.
The Cure=Essential
Everyone can find a cure song they like
and if you cant
YOU ARENT TRYING HARD ENOUGH
I like their newer albums more than the rest because they have overall more songs I like whereas the older ones only have a few songs I like
Close to Me is probably my favorite overall song
its damn catchy
OMG, only 3 people left on American Idol!!! I wonder who'll win and be the new face of hollywood stardom. There seems to be a lot of talent this year and all 3 contestants deserve to win if that were possible. Of course, either 1 or none of them might sell albums but I'm just saying they all kind of deserve to win...
This was not at all like last year or the year before that. David Cook and Taylor Hicks were both mediocre.
I've been really busy lately and realized that I don't have any new music!
I really dig electronica (e.i. midnight juggernauts, the presets, justice)
Other random stuff such as keane, kanye west, metronomy, sound team etc.
What are you guys into?
If you like electronica, or trance, check out the Bonkers albums. Vol. 12 and forward are probably the best ones since they're newer (Bonkers albums have been coming since the early 90's.)

I was listening to bluegrass when it occurred to me: bluegrass can be some of the fastest music around. Since this is the case, I was thinking that it would be really cool if someone threw a double bass drum in there and got someone to yell/scream in a punk rock fashion.
I can't be the first person to have this idea, so does anyone know if there are any bluegrass/punk fusion bands?
That sounds an awful lot like the Folk Punk type movement that's been going on for awhile.

Hey so who here has heard from Blackrobot? its a band from some of the Original members of Buckcherry, according to what i know they have been doing really good, debut album is out and everything, i know a few people who do some of their marketing work and they are kind stocked the band is doing so well, but since i have a different music taste i know little about how well its doing, anyone here has listened to them yet? what are the impressions?
I hope this doesnt sound like PR advertising im honestly curious since my friends who work for them have been doing a lot of work for them and i would like to see how well its payed off so far

Most other bands basically do sped-up rockabilly or zydego/gypsy (Gogol Bordello being at the forefront of that).
Railroad Earth gets a little hard on occasion. They're more blue-grass.
No-fi machine gun acoustic guitar & nasal bleat & some of the best lyrics ever written, certainly the best by a 90's indie act (like eg: "Set the table, those three extra places: one for me, one for your doubts, and one for God"). The whole album reads as a screed against romance, or a desperate call to a return to same. Beautiful & frightening.
2. Bright Eyes- "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning"
Whiny emo boy + cameo appearances by Emmylou Harris = most beautifully sad album I've ever heard.
3. Eyehategod - "Confederacy of Ruined Lives"
Probably the only sludge metal band whose whole raison d'etre is not simply to offend & disgust (I'm looking at you, Anal ****). It's filthy, it's distorted, & it's glorious. Preferably enjoyed at max volume with a bottle of vodka chased by black coffee.
4. Lil' Wayne - "Tha Carter III"
Codeine-ravaged voice rapping about aliens & strip clubs & shootin someone's grandmotha up. ='s most viscerally enjoyable album ever.
5. Greenday - "Dookie"
Before they decided they were a serious band, there was Dookie, & it was beautiful.
6. Emperor "In the Nightside Eclipse"
Symphonic Black Metal, as a genre, should be retired after this album; there's just no way to improve upon it.

You have a weird taste in music. I have to disagree with you on the two metal selections in there. Eyehategod is nothing like Anal ****. The former is sludge, and the latter is noisecore.
In the Nightside Eclipse is one of my favorite black metal albums, though there were certainly strong BM releases after it.
I haven't actually heard The Coroner's Gambit, but if it's anything like All Hail West Texas I'm likely to agree
I'm Wide Awake is a great album, but his earlier work is a lot better, specifically A Collection of Songs Written
Can't comment on the Eyehategod or Lil' Wayne choices other than I've heard Tha Carter III is the worst rap album of the year/Lil' Wayne's career.
Dookie, while a fine album, is outclassed by Nimrod and Kerplunk! on so many levels.

Of course everybody is going to name thier favorite bands and say they are "essential". I think the music that is "essential" is the roots of the music you like. From country and blues came rock. I hate country but I like to listen to some blues. I think alot of metal bands have influence from jazz, so I try to find some jazz although I don't know any jazz artists. I've heard a bit of it yet I can never remember the names lol. Not sure where to look for them. I listen to some classical, I'm sure theres tons of bands with influence from it.
What is essential? Depends on what you want. Do you want to be cool? Then just listen to the radio. Do you want to expand your tastes? Then find out all kinds of different music. Do you just want to be a hardcore elitist in one area? Like alot of metalheads, we are hardcore elitist and could easily list a bunch of metal albums as the essential albums to hear.

INTO THE RAY OF THE SUN, MARCH OUR HERO, HUNTING THE DARKLORD, REBORN FROM THE BLOOD OF HIS GOD... HIS GOD... THE WARMASTER KRON.
RIDE FOR THE FALL OF HIS POWER FIGHTING THE STORM, THE ROAR OF THE THUNDER, ALLY OF THE SUN AND THE MOON... GREAT SWORDMASTER RULE!
I'd say the best albums, for me at least, are things like Paranoid, The Number of the Beast, Master of Puppets, Appetite for Destruction, Back in Black, Who's Next. Paranoid probably being the most important album and the only one I would call "essential" on that list in terms of impact. Obviously my list is a who's who of metal and hard rock, but I personally don't see a reason to listen to anything released recently in comparison to, say, Maiden in their heyday.

I'm surprised someone listed Eyehategod and Emperor as their favorite albums alongside Lil' Wayne. I understand if someone enjoys various extreme metal, alongside some rap. But out of all the rap/hip-hop there is... wow. But to each is his own, right?
I may need to check out that black metal album. Never been a fan to the small occasions I have heard it, but I usually prefer black metal blastbeats compared to death metal style. I do listen to 2 bands (Alcest and Amesoeurs) that definitely have black metal undertones. Plus, I love tremolo picking

I guess they're similar, insofar as most albums a given artist puts out will be similar, and if you liked All Hail West Texas, you'll probably like this one, but earlier pre-2002 Mountain Goats is not for every taste, so it's a gamble.

I didn't expect to like it when I bought it. I'm usually into more underground rap like Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, Cage, & Why?, but the album is just so over-the-top, you have to enjoy it.
I checked out The Coroner's Gambit and really enjoyed it, not as much as All Hail West Texas but it was definitely along that same vein.

Alice in Chains
Pantera (we'll throw Damageplan's New Found Power in with this one)
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Mastodon
Jimi Hendrix
Also, I guess the 5 original Skynyrd albums (The Muscle Shoals album too). I was the only one out of My brother and sister and I who graduated highschool and got a drivers license, and yet the day my dad was the most proud of me was when I bought the Lynyrd Skynyrd box set.
