In college i was poor and mostly didn't pay for it, but now that I've got a steady job that pays (very) well, I buy at least a few albums a month on itunes or google play, unless I can't find it on there.
Buying a CD still seems silly to me. If you want a backup, put a copy on an external hard drive and save yourself some space. If I had all my music backed up on CDs it'd take up a room of my apartment =/
I buy all my music through Amazon MP3 now unless stores have a CD with bonus tracks I can't get anywhere else or if iTunes only has the artist. Amazon keeps your purchases on your account so you don't have to worry about paying again if you need to redownload it unlike iTunes. I will tend to by CDs at concerts since the artists tend to sign them and usually the money goes to them.

I always buy vinyl/cd's from underground bands if i like them to support them.
The bigger bands i buy all their stuff second hand on vinyl if i get the chance and it's not around 40 bucks or more for the vinyl.
I still buy CDs, mostly only for bands I really like though since buying a CD for just one song isn't really the best use of your money. If there's a random song I want to listen to that I don't own the CD for I usually just play it on Youtube.
I buy stuff when I can, generally digitally. I rarely buy CDs nowadays, only if I really enjoy an album I will buy both a digital and physical copy of it.

I try to buy as much of my music as possible, but I just don't have the money to buy it all. My cd/vinyl-collection is around 230 pieces or something right now, and growing every few weeks.
I support the bands I like by buying their albums. Not a big fan of digital albums, so I like to actually have the album and then rip it for my digital copy. My music library is pretty substantial right now, I think it's over 1000 albums right now. I am a huge music nerd although I have been slowing down in my old age.
I started collecting CDs as a teenager and have hard copies of albums that have greatly impacted my life or musical taste. I also have a lot of rare, signed vinyl as decorations etc. While I do use iTunes for individual song purchases, if I do enjoy an artist's music, I still buy CDs from time to time.
I used to collect CDs and I built up a massive collection of about 1,500 before it became easier to get music online. When I took a lower paying job, I got out of the habit of buying albums - but I also got out of the habit of finding new music. I spent a while downloading mostly older music, stuff I would have bought used anyway, so I don't feel bad about not spending money on it, as I would have only been supporting second-hand purveyors.
In the last couple years, I started listening to a lot more new music - like in the realm of a hundred new releases a year in addition to older finds - and if an album is good enough, I'll sink money into a CD. I rarely blind-buy CDs anymore, there's just too much crap out there. I also make an effort to pay for digital albums from really small Bandcamp artists. Not the pay-what-you-want bedroom artists, but the guys who are truly trucking along and trying to make money off of what they're doing.
I buy some albums, but most of the music I listen to is really hard to find to buy. Most of what I listen to is French or Spanish so I can't find it on US iTunes and stuff like that, so I just torrent it.
I support artists who deserve it. Also, I will contribute to a crowdfunding effort for an artist I believe in.
This seems like a really elaborate "no" to me. "Deserving it" seems needlessly arbitrary and seems like an easy excuse to download music without taking responsibility for stealing a product. "They didn't deserve the money, ect.

I do have plenty of illegally downloaded music but I wasn't referring to simply the money when I said deserve. Few musicians and singers are true artists anymore and I don't see any point in supporting people who are just out to make money. Patronage of an artist goes beyond giving them money. True patronage is wearing the artist's image proudly, being critical yet supportive of their creative endeavors, helping them in whatever way you can(e.g. street team, retweeting, etc), and yes...buying their art.
I torrent everything. But due to my collecting habit, I have an immense vinyl record collection so if an artist puts something out on vinyl, I'm getting it. I also by cassettes. But no CD's. Once they go out of format I'll probably start buying them too. Oh, the collectors gene runs strong through my veins.
I always buy my music. Some people don't but I do. If I like it enough I buy it. My car still has a CD player in it so I buy albums I really love. Mostly download music through Amazon MP3. I also have Muve Music on my phone thats a no limit music stream commercial free for 9.99 a month. BUT I can understand why people don'y buy music.
Last year I realized that my library (and basically every library near me) are part of this system called Freegal which permits you to download 3 tracks a week for free just for having a library card. So, I've gotten like 100 tracks this way so far. Given my small intake of music these days and given Freegal's decently sized selection, I barely ever pay for music anymore. I will occasionally pay for something that I can't get that way, though. I would recommend checking out your library and seeing if they're part of a program like this.
Most of my my purchases are second-hand. I own over 500 physical albums on CD, Cassette, and Vinyl.
I buy most of my albums online from various sources:
I am a musician and I can say that album sales contributing to the artists income really depend on the contracts involved. Typically, independent labels offer a bit more to the artists involved.

I mostly buy mp3's online. There is very few bands I buy a physical CD for anymore. And that's just for collections' sake.
