yup, genre called witch house,,, and im loving it!! its really dark and gives off a different emotion and ambiance through different underground bands!
besides playing magic, i love listening to music
and i love how their music can easily fit into magic storylines, yup, they've got that hellish, gothic and even magical sound and feel into it..
for you music lovers out there, i recommend these bands for you!
nice to see there are other magic players who are also music enthusiasts out here too!
as much as i love MIA, i think witch house bands has a more dark magical sound to them though.
Yeah I love music, I hope to make money off it one day.
And most people look at me strangely when I mention her and witch house, because she is pop/hip hop but if you see her perform live, she plays dark stuff that is so cool!
I just got into this genre and I love it! It mixes my passion for 80's dark New Wave and underground Hip-Hop!
Try to find something called: Occult Trill: The Witch Tape it features Salem, White Ring, Balam Acab, Ritualz and more!
@panda - Well, it's way more Hip-Hop/House oriented for one. It's much more like HorrorCore hip-hop than Industrial. I do understand your comparisons to Ambient and Goth. Witch House loves to sample Dead Can Dance, Christian Death and the CUre, but uses them more abstractly than Ambient and/or Industrial in my opinion.
Thanks pstmdrn. I listened to a lot of DCD, darker Trip hop, Curve, Cranes, and other darkwave kind of bands for a while in college. I guess I just don't see much here that would allow for a completely new "label." Cool though.
I'd recomend people look up the Silent Hill soundtrack collection for a few years ago... also American McGee's Alice soundtrack (not the new one), for some similar feeling stuff.
uuhmm... actually as stated above, ...unlike indutrial/ambient, witch house takes elements from hip hop then synthesizes it with post-new wave, electronica and industrial elements...
i think witch house is by far the darkest form of electronica atm..
and the underground bands actually are kinda better than the kinda mainstream ones at witch house.

Yet that's sort of what Trip Hop was doing in the late 90's. May not be quite as new-wavey... but Massive Attack has some VERY dark stuff, as does Curve, Portishead, UNKLE, Lamb, Dead Can Dance, Blue Foundation, and others. It's not as glitchy... but that sort of style really only arrived within the last 10 years. Unless you talk about Digital Hardcore... which this definately sees some influance.
I am not looking for it to be dark, but steeped in real occult symbolism, which these are. the lyricists seem to be on paths of mystical awareness, as are many of the fans that I have run into.
yup... witch house tends to really draw itself into deep occult stuff, through raw imagery (raw video clips/ strange clips, triangles and crosses) and the prefered shrouded identity of its artists.
which is also a factor separating it from industrial/electronica genres and subgenres.

Just a heads up to any interested parties, I emailed Noah23 of Ockult Trill: The Witch Tape and he said Ockult Trill 2: The Serpent's Tail is gonna drop on Halloween. I'm pretty excited.
Ok! Here we are again. I am now really obsessed with Witch House, more than before. Here is my list of who I am listening to. Please let me know if I am missing something AWESOME:
Salem
Purity Ring
Ritualz
White Ring
Balam Acab

Seconding the recommendation for oOoOO. The artist only puts out an album once ever year or so, but they're really excellent and very moody.
This sampler, Dark as Night, by Bathetic Records is a FANTASTIC intro to the witch house genre. The Terminal Twilight cover of Fire of Love is worth the price of admission!
▲AIMON is the only Witch House band I'm really familiar with, because there's been a lot of buzz about them recently among industrial-listening friends of mine. They're alright, I just tend to prefer my dark music to be a little less ambient.

That's because it's one of those silly microgenres that's started being a thing in the last few years. Alongside stuff like Vaporwave and... Seapunk...

"Virtue, Jacques, is an excellent thing. Both good people and wicked people speak highly of it..."
ZOMBY. He's really good grave wave I think. He's signed to 4AD the same label that Grimes is on. Some of Grimes's stuff is also witch housey kinda a little bit maybe haha
