The first trailer has dropped, so I feel this is officially not jumping the gun.
Things to note non-trailer related:
Since the word "Jedi" is both singular and plural (like the word deer), the "last Jedi" has been used in non-English language titles in the plural.
This will be Carrie Fisher's last Star Wars movie. She was going to be integral IX, but Lucasfilm/Disney has opted to write her out rather than use technology or recast the role. I have heard no word if her passing will have an effect on VIII. May Carrie Fisher rest in peace.
Now then, with those details out of the way... let's get this hype train rolling.
Just saw it, and... I don't even know, man. Is this movie good? Is it bad? I don't even know. I have so much to process.
I will say I enjoyed the film, primarily because it was exactly what The Force Awakens wasn't: different, bold, subversive of expectations, and having the audacity to move in completely different directions with the Star Wars franchise.
I left the last film believing this one would suck and that the trilogy would have nothing to offer. Now I'm very excited for what is to come.
I saw it yesterday and I feel I'm really indifferent towards it. I wasn't overly interested in the movie itself but I feel I'm more interested to see what they used it to set up in the future. I feel they could set up interesting things in the future
The movie went about how I expected it to go. Ultimately, I enjoyed it, but I thought that [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] didn't really have chemistry. I also came to the realization that I don't like Finn's character, like, at all. I feel like they put a lot more effort into writing him in VII. I am really curious as to how they're going to handle Carrie Fisher's passing in future installments.

There's no way you could claim to have predicted that movie.

I really disliked Finn in Episode 7 and actually liked him in this movie. Actually, a lot of characters were greatly improved. Poe actually was in the movie, so that noticeably helped, and Kylo Ren shifted from being ehh to being actually a pretty cool villain.
Also, we can do spoiler tags. Let's get some spoilerific discussion going.

The movie was very formulaic. We knew Luke had to die. We knew Snoke had to die. We knew Finn and Rey had to live. All of this was broadcasted on a blinking neon sign throughout the movie. They threw in minor twists, such as their inability to meet the guy with the lotus lapel pin and the codebreaker backstabbing them after showing he had an ounce of decency in him, as well as the plan to destroy Snoke's ship and escape to saltHoth going awry. But when they showed the bond Ren and Rey were developing and the conflict within, it was painfully obvious that Ren was gonna kill Snoke and try to forge a new "empire" with Rey.

No, it was not. It was about as close to the opposite of that as a Star Wars film could reasonably be. And yes, you might have guessed that X characters would live at the end, and X would not. But you can't say you expected all the stuff that happened besides those three bullet points.

I'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish by arguing this with me, but I'm going to disengage at this point because nothing constructive is going to come of me saying "no ur rong" and you responding "lol u lie". Like...I know you're wrong. I was at the theater when I saw the movie. You weren't. Whether or not you choose to accept that is your prerogative.
Anyway, as I said, there's no point in furthering this, so...Merry Christmas!

I actually enjoyed the movie, and didn’t really try to predict things in advance. I found the sub-story interesting, in that it contributed to the story direction significantly, most poignantly when the call goes out for aid, and no one answers. Wat? A most barbarous force of evil threatens the safety of the Galaxy, and no one seems fit to reply?
Now, I wasn’t there in story development meetings, so who really knows, but based on purely canon material, it seems to me that the reason is simple: the Republic (and the rebellion/resistance) wasn’t worth saving. The old Republic failed before Palpatine took over, and it’s pretty clear from places like Jakku and that gambling planet that the New Republic didn’t make any impact on people to change the conditions left by the dead Empire, and so it also failed. Different government, higher ideals, no change. I mean, from a societal aspect, if the Republic had visibly addressed real poverty, even with a modicum of success, it should have split the remnant of the Empire’s officers and enlisted who all have families at home. Rogue One even touches on that, albeit before Episode IV. But it didn’t and Snoke took over, and no one shed a tear about the loss. Rian Jordan took the series into reasonably new territory where the Rebel Fleet is gone, and there are only about 8 people left against the First Order, a First Order led by a petulant man-boy with zero government/leadership development. It will be interesting to see what JJ Abrams does with that.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is one of my favorite films and Mark Hamill,Carrie Fisher ,Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley are my favorite stars. The best part of this film is it received four nominations at the 90th Academy Awards.
