Saw The Woman in Black today and I loved it. It was very well made with a focus on what makes horror great. Not the in your face ghost/bad guy trying to kill you but the specter of a horrible tragedy lurking around you while you experience/see the events of the tragedy unfold around you all while this ghost makes it known to you that it could pretty much do whatever it wants to you. Lots of really good jump scares as well as just constant harassment by the ghost in various ways when he was in the house and not in it. Simply a great movie that I can't wait for it to come out on DVD.
I caught Bunraku over the weekend. Super fun movie, the execution reminded me of Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Only replace video game and geek culture references with samurai and western tropes. Then replace Canada with a German impressionist origami pop-up comic book (Those are a thing now, I guess). Anyway, check it out for hyper stylized fight scenes featuring two lead characters with completely opposite fighting styles.
Damn, what a good freaking movie. If you like action movies.. This was deep and it was ****ing fantastic action too.

Also watched No Mans Land. Also good, but not as good as the Brazilian film. Great film about the war in Yugoslavia and the absurdity of it all including the UN presence. Also available for streaming.
-
Crazy Stupid love: very good movie in my opinion. About relationships and stuff.
-
Up in the air: great movie... wow... So... Well... Acted... And captured so many feelings of isolation in the modern age. I wonder if theres a LOT of the real George Clooney in that character. Wonder if he'll settle down with Stacy or somebody else finally... Or just come to the realization he's really gay...
Elite Squad 1 or 2? Both are supposed to be really good.
1st one is slightly better violence. 2nd is slightly better plot. I only saw the second one. Elite Squad: the enemy within.
Just saw HANGOVER 2. I would skip it. Very derivative and not that funny. They went more for shock value than actual humor in the script. The whole bit with the trans hooker, for example... and much of the gunplay stuff I barely remember. It feels almost like they wrote the script in 1 day on a drinking binge, and just cranked this sucker out to grab some bucks while Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms had an opening in their schedulesw to shoot the movie. Rush job. I know the writers could have done a much better job. If not for Helms being such a good commedian, this is honestly almost a straight-to-video movie for me. Zach Galiflianakis was a bit poorly utilizede in this movie, more annoying than funny, though an occasional funny line.

BRIDESMAIDS also. I would recommend that. It was good, and I think women especially will enjoy it because some of the craziness, while not quite identifiable to me (almost slapstick manic crazy behavior on the part of the lead), was actually extremely identifiable to my wife and other women, and I kind of "get" why.
It's at times pretty funny, and an engaging movie overall I think, and actually a bit offbeat from the regular male-oriented story.

I saw the second. I hadn't heard anything about it so I was just ready for cheesing an action flick, and was happily surprised with fewer action scenes in exchange for the meatier plot. I liked how they realistic the action scenes came out. I like slow-mo walking away from explosions as much as the next guy, but it was nice to have a movie where the danger felt real rather than glamorous.
Edit: I've been meaning to see Bridesmaids. I'm a fan of Wiig's SNL work, and I hear it's got one of the guys from the IT Crowd. Bonus.

watched "the sitter" it was funny I guess.. as long as your not looking for anything remotly mature anyway.
I watched our idiot brother recently and that was really good.. except 1 major issue..
the guy who cheated on his wife discreatly and tried to hold his family together.. they pretty much hate him and exile him. and the wife says screw your family values im putting the kid in karate.. but the lesbian who screws the guy in a taxi and gets knocked up.. oh its cool, i'll go to the obgyn with you. we all still love you.

Chris o'dowd is very likeable in the movie.
And yeah, the elite squad felt very real for most of the movie, and so nicely accompanied by a thinking story.
Finally got around to watching Ip Man. Holy moly that's a good martial arts film.
Great fight scenes with character development built into them. That first time Ip lets himself be emotional while fighting... Hooo, brutal.
@dcartist: I caught Elite Squad a while back. Good flick.
Easily one of my most favorite martial arts films of all time. Choreo was very fluid. The first two movies are top-notch.
FTT: Asiong Salonga, Manila Kingpin. It's a Filipino black-and-white action flick that retells the story of Asiong Salonga, one of the most notorious gangsters in the Philippines in the '50s. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the films that my country produces lately but this one got my attention.
From Russia With Love is a pretty good movie, I have fond memories of it but it hasn't aged as well as I may have liked. It's still worth a watch for any fans of James Bond, but it isn't as quick paced as some of the newer installments.
Princess Mononoke is fantastic. It's a long, animated epic with a riveting plot, beautiful visuals, and solid characters. One of the best of the Studio Ghibli films, and that's saying a lot. You need to do a service to yourself and watch this movie.
I've really been meaning to rewatch Princess Mononoke, I haven't seen it since early high school and I don't think I could have appreciated it as much back then. It was the first anime (besides DBZ, Pokemon, and Digimon xD) that I ever saw.
I watched My Cousin Vinnie and Face Off last night. I hadn't seen My Cousin Vinnie in ages, but that movie is still really funny in this guy's opinion. Marissa Tomei isn't too hard on the eyes, either, though those goofy 90's outfits they put her in (purposefully goofy, of course) are pretty...well, goofy. But the wardrobe was a big part of contrasting the New York city folk against the simple Alabama people.
I hadn't seen Face Off before. I like John Travolta a lot, especially as a villain, and despite a string of pretty horrible movies I actually think Nicholas Cage has some pretty solid charisma on screen. I really enjoyed the brief appearance of Tom Jane, who goes on to play opposite John Travolta in The Punisher (the good one). Overall a pretty mediocre movie, but better than a lot of the action junk that seems to have spawned from that time.

I've heard nothing but good things about it, and I finally got fed up enough over the intermittent references to the movie, so I went out and bought The Iron Giant at a used DVD store.
I watched it tonight, and I was thoroughly pleased. It was like a mixture of The Secret of NIMH, ET, and a Pixar movie (yes, I'm aware of Brad Bird's involvement in both Pixar and The Iron Giant). I can now understand people's quoting of the iron giant's last words in the film. They were indeed moving and memorable.
Very good movie and Sean Connery's character was badass

Thought it was decent. Actually, it was better than I thought it was going to be. It had it's funny moments and some of the weapons were cool.
bazooka attack and jet pack gatling gun (respectively)
Nick Cage's death scene. Kind of a let down really.

Great traditional animation in a world filled with Pixar like 3D style. The story is really simple, effective and the movie is short and sweet.
The characters were slightly shallow, but in the end this movie was worth the watch.
